DARREN MOORE Good afternoon and welcome back to the Keepmoat Stadium. I’d like to welcome Danny Cowley as well as the supporters, players and staff of Lincoln City who have made the trip across. The Imps are a good side who have maintained some of the momentum from their promotion and will provide a good test for us today. It was a great feeling to get our first three points of the season last Saturday. We had to show our determination and battling qualities to come out with the victory - having to come from behind in a game that really ebbed and flowed throughout. It was a great advert for League One, it was two teams that were at it from the off. Credit must go to the boys for the way that they stayed in the game and showed the determination to win. We were able to add Kazaiah Sterling to the squad ahead of the last game. He is highly-rated at his parent club and it we had to be patient to get the signing over the line because Tottenham Hotspur were reluctant to let him go. As well as Spurs, the backing of the owners and Gavin Baldwin have proven vital in getting the extra players in I felt were needed after joining the club. Enjoy the game.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE
GAVIN BALDWIN Good afternoon and welcome back to the Keepmoat Stadium. I’d like to welcome the supporters, owners, players and staff of Lincoln City who have made the short trip over to today’s game. The Imps chief executive Liam Scully is a familiar face to many of us here at the Keepmoat Stadium, after spending many years with us across several different roles and we take great pride in his continued success. It has been a strange week with our trip to Bolton on Tuesday night postponed by the home club the day before. We were left frustrated by the late cancellation, and while we have sympathy with Bolton’s plight off the pitch we had prepared professionally for the game and built our schedule around the fixture. It was particularly unprofessional to learn that the game had been called off by us being tagged in a tweet by Bolton Wanderers, with the first I or Darren Moore knowing about the move being when our media team made us aware. It is clear clubs cannot unilaterally cancel games the day before without the permission of the opposition and EFL, and we believe the fairest outcome would be us awarded the points.
points from our opening three games is a good haul and gives us plenty to build on. Here at Rovers we know what it is like when events off the pitch spill over onto the playing side of things, I’m sure many of you reading this stuck by us through the dark days of the late nineties when we were putting out primarily a youth team most weeks. We showed that there can be a way back, and that in the end those experiences can make you stronger - that experience helped make us the club we are today. We hope Bolton come through their problems stronger, they are a club who have made a tremendous contribution to the game and hopefully have brighter days ahead. This week we learnt of the death of Chas Walker, a well-known fan who was instrumental in keeping the club going through some of those dark days. On behalf of everyone at the club I’d like to offer our condolences to his family. I hope many of you may consider coming back tomorrow as the Belles take on Sheffield FC here at the Keepmoat Stadium (2pm KO). Tickets are just £3 for adults and £1 for those 17 and under - head coach Zoey Shaw has a young side who have a lot of promise and the backing of the Doncaster public could really help them come together. Enjoy the game.
It was particularly frustrating as we were on the back of a really good win over Fleetwood Town and felt it was an opportunity to move into the play-off spots, but five

BEN WHITEMAN In his second season as a Rovers player, Ben Whiteman made the holding midfield role his own and became one of the standout performers in Sky Bet League One. 09 He helped the team reach the play-off semi-final before a penalty shootout defeat against Charlton – a shootout in which he stepped up and confidently slotted home from the spot. His quality inevitably led to interest from the Sky Bet Championship over the summer, with speculation going right to the end of the window for the second tier clubs. Whiteman says he always wanted to stay in South Yorkshire, and was satisfied to stick with the valuation placed on him by the Rovers board. “I’ve said it before that there was a price put on my head by the board
which I appreciated as that was made clear as soon as the interest came in,” he says. “I was fair about it and understood their decision, it didn’t change the way I went about my business and I was more than happy to stay. “The fans knew that John Marquis situation was different to mine. He had done very well for the football club over the three years he was here but it was probably time for a fresh challenge for him. “His move was largely down to family reasons and the location suited him which we all appreciate and wished him well – but not that well when he comes up against us.

“The thing I struggled with was news outlets printing different things which I knew wasn’t true, and knowing I couldn’t come out and state the truth. “As a footballer you have to keep things quiet which is difficult, but then in the end everything came out that I was staying. “It’s something that you have to get used to as it happens multiple times in your career, there is always going to be interest and you can’t help that.” With his future sorted, Whiteman was then named as team captain by manager Darren Moore – something he sees as a great achievement at the age of 23. He has club captain James Coppinger alongside him, a man he has got on well with both on and off the field since arriving at Rovers. “It’s a huge honour to be named as team captain for the season, I’m really looking forward to the challenge and taking even more responsibility on my shoulders,” he says. “With the likes of Copps around the place I’m not sure if I saw it coming, I knew we had a good season last year so I felt like a leader of the group. “Myself and Copps get on really well off the pitch, he’s like my older brother and I try to pick his brains as much as I can. “We do have a special bond and if I ever have a problem he is the first person I will ring, to have him there as club captain is good for me as I can lean on him when needed.

“I will go about my business the same way but then will have the opportunity to speak about any problems and have dialogue with the manager as well. “The manager said I had the respect of my teammates which is huge and that he saw me as a leader which is something I want to repay him for.” After an unbeaten start to the season which has seen Rovers pick up two draws and a win in their opening three games, the team have shown good resolve to battle from a goal down in each fixture. Two injury time goals have shown how high the fitness levels are in the squad, and Whiteman says that combined with a never say die attitude is a good combination to have. “We’ve showed good character in all the games we’ve played and had to come from behind which is not how we want to do it but sometimes that’s the way it is,” he says. “There have been times when we have played some nice stuff but then other times when we have had to show a different side to our game. “The Rochdale one springs to mind where they had a bit of the ball without really hurting us which suggests we managed the game well. “To have scored twice in added on time already shows the belief we have as a group, and that stems from the togetherness in
the dressing room to work as hard as we possibly can for each other. “The manager came in quite late and he has been working hard to try and get his point across in terms of the way he wants to play.” After the addition of front-man Kazaiah Sterling on loan from Premier League side Tottenham, Darren Moore is continuing to build a squad capable of making another play-off push. Whiteman believes the early signs are good, with plenty of work being done at Cantley Park to ensure they get strong and stronger as the season goes on. “We’ve got a striker through the door in Kazaiah who has a good record with the Spurs U23s and has already made a good impression with the boys,” he adds. “We know we’ve still got work to do to make us the finished article and losing John with his record wasn’t ideal but it’s a chance for someone else to step up. “To some extent it can strengthen the group when players leave because it brings you closer together, and with the new lads coming in it’s important to make them feel welcome as soon as possible. “The home games are always important and you want teams to come to our place and be worried about what we can do. “We’ve set the foundations there with scoring late goals and not losing so hopefully we can continue that against Lincoln.”

CIAN
BOLGER
At the ripe age of 23, Vickers has already clocked up well over 100 professional appearances and in that time has won a League Two title with the Imps.
The Leicester City youth product has vast experience of the EFL already under his belt, having appeared 85 times for Fleetwood Town before his move to Sincil in January.
He kept a clean sheet on his first game back in League One with Lincoln during the 2-0 victory against Accrington Stanley.
He dropped down to League Two in order for more game time which Danny Cowley handed to him and now had become an established member of the defensive line even after their step up to League One.

ANDRADE
WALKER
Andrade is a star influential attacking player and the club have had to bat off interest for clubs higher up to maintain the Portuguese man’s services.
Moved to Sincil Bank after an impressive season in League Two with Mansfield Town, where he scored 22 times in 44 games. That helped the Stags achieve a place in the playoff places which helped catch the eye of the management team in Lincoln.
The 25-year-old was scouted from nonleague side Boreham Wood by Danny Cowley in 2018 and has since gone on to repay the decision to sign him after being involved in a lot of the Imps’ goals over the last two seasons. He is a versatile attacker who can play as a shadow striker and out on either the right or left wing.
This summer he made another loan switch from parent club Nottingham Forest to Lincoln and has helped inspire the Imps’ scintillating start to the season which has played a part in getting three wins in as many games. The Lincoln No.17 will be hoping he can continue to make a good impression for the club which is now his sixth club he has joined on loan at the age of 22.

LEE BUTLER GOALKEEPER The 53-year-old’s career started in Doncaster at non-league side Harworth Colliery before moving to Lincoln City in 1986 from where he had a short-term loan move to neighbours Boston United. Butler signed for Rovers to provide competition to Andy Warrington during 2002 and appeared 10 times between the sticks at Belle Vue before moving on to Halifax Town for what would be his second spell out of three there. In 2008 Sean O’Driscoll appointed Butler as Rovers’ firstteam goalkeeping coach which is a position he held until the arrival of Paul Gerrard in 2013. He has most recently held the same position at Bolton Wanderers.
16
HARRY TOFFOLO DEFENDER The Norwich City Academy graduate spent time on loan at Swindon, Rotherham, Peterborough and Scunthorpe before joining Rovers on the same terms from August 2017 until January 2018. After making 13 appearances in red and white his time at the Keepmoat Stadium was ultimately cut short due a foot injury sustained during a 1-0 defeat to Oxford United in December. Toffolo went on to spend some time in the Championship with Millwall before signing on at Lincoln City to be part of their journey from League Two to One. JASON SHACKELL DEFENDER Shackell is an EFL eteran and is still going strong at the age of 35 he partnered Toffolo through last year’s triumphant season. Like Toffolo, Shackell was a product of Norwich City’s Academy and was rewarded for his efforts by signing a professional deal with Canaries in 2003. A permanent move in 2008 came around, but he struggled to settle which resulted in a loan move to the Keepmoat Stadium for the 2009/10 season. He went to have a steady ride in South Yorkshire, appearing 23 times in red and white.
SHARED 5-A-SIDE In 2018 Shackell switched Championship side Derby for League Two Lincoln and scored five minutes into his debut for the Imps against Port Vale in the Carabao Cup. JOHN SCHOFIELD MIDFIELDER Schofield holds a strong connection at Lincoln and Rovers as he has made his most senior appearances for both clubs coming in at 231 and 110 respectively. After that he played for Mansfield and Hull before returning back to Lincoln for one year where he would then retire. He then went on to manage Lincoln between 2006 and 2007 which led him onto the pathway of coaching which ended up at Rovers in 2016 as U23s manager. This summer he was promoted to first-team coach under Darren Moore after successfully taking caretaker charge over the summer. ALICK JEFFERY FORWARD The Doncaster-born striker is a cult legend at tRovers and made a total of 262 appearances across two spells in his hometown. During his stint he became one of Rovers’ top goal scorers, netting 129 times. After the conclusion of his second spell at Belle Vue in 1969, Jeffrey moved to Lincoln for one season where he was less prolific - scoring three times during 22 games. The road around the Keepmoat Stadium was dedicated to him along with a block of flats named after him on the site of the former Rovers ground.

This is only the second meeting between Rovers and Lincoln City since the Keepmoat Stadium was opened, and from a home viewpoint a repeat of that result would suit nicely.

That meeting was a Carling Cup first round meeting in August 2007, where strikes from James Hayter, Richie Wellens, Paul Heffernan and Mark McCammon set Rovers on their way to a comfortable victory. Jamie Forrester did pull a consolation goal back in the closing stages, but it was a routine victory for Sean O’Driscoll’s side - although progress in the competition was only as far as the second round when Rovers bowed out at the hands of Plymouth Argyle. James Coppinger is the only home survivor from that evening, while the Imps side also included future Rovers midfielder Dany N’Guessan. The 4-1 scoreline matched Rovers’ largest winning margin against Lincoln, having claimed successes by the same scoreline in 1939 and 1957 - both were league encounters. This is the first season we have been in the same league since Rovers’ 2003/04 League Two winning campaign, the Imps finished seventh that year and had been relegated out of the EFL by the time Rovers dropped back to that level. In fact you have to go back to February 1995 for the last league win for Rovers over the men from Lincolnshire - with Darren Finlay, Steve Harper and Russ Wilcox on target in a 3-0 success at Belle Vue.

ROVERS MANAGERS
IN THE HOT SEAT:
DONCASTER ROVERS MANAGERS FROM 1920
FRED EMERY (1936-1940) By 1936, club captain Fred Emery was very much David Menzies’ right-hand man, so when the Scot left for Hull City, it seemed logical that Emery should move into the manager’s chair. Emery had been at Belle Vue since 1924, and his 417 League appearances for Rovers was a club record until beaten by James Coppinger. Since 1932, Emery had been captain, the man responsible for implementing Menzies’ policies on the pitch and he was still playing when the board confirmed him in his new role, although he hung up his boots at the end of the 1935-36 season. Emery took charge of a Rovers team in Division Two, but on the slide after a promising start at the higher level. Despite avoiding relegation in 1935-36 they failed to record a victory under his stewardship. His first win did not come until August 1936 when Rovers beat Southampton 2-0. Despite that, they finished bottom of Division Two that season, although by signing forwards Mick Killourhy, Albert Malam and Eddie Perry, Emery had made preparations for the future. Emery was also in charge of the first Rovers team to travel overseas, when they took on the Dutch national side in Rotterdam in October 1936. Rovers lost 2-7 but the players enjoyed their foreign excursion.
Back home, Emery’s team enjoyed two good seasons in Division Three (North). In 1937-38 they finished runners-up, two points behind Tranmere Rovers and some attractive football ensured that attendances remained at Division Two levels. The following season an even better record saw Rovers again finish second, although some distance behind runaway leaders Barnsley. In those days, only the Champions were promoted to Division Two, but Rovers began 1939-40 full of optimism. However, after only three League matches the season was cancelled owing to the outbreak of war. Despite his long service with Rovers and a decent record as manager, Fred Emery was soon to lose his job. In July 1940, the Rovers directors decided to dispense with his services as an economy measure. Although some competitive football matches had been arranged, wartime football had brought with it much-reduced crowds- down from an average of 11,000 in 1938-39 to 3,000. In the circumstances, it was felt that Rovers could not afford a manager. In 1943 Fred Emery was appointed manager of Bradford Park Avenue, a job he held until 1951. Avenue were in Division Two and he managed to keep them there until 1950, when they swapped places with Rovers, winners of Division Three (North). He then moved on to become manager of Carlisle United, who occupied the middle to lower reaches of the Third North throughout his tenure. In April 1958, he resigned as Carlisle manager and just over a year later, in May 1959, Fred Emery died, just before his 59th birthday. A great Rovers player might also have been remembered as a great manager had it not been for the outbreak of World War Two. John Coyle

Paul Stancliffe thinks Darren Moore’s presence at U18 games is a major lift for the young players. The Rovers manager and his coaching staff have been in attendance to watch the U18s win and draw their opening two home games at Cantley Park. Stancliffe said: “It is a motivational boost for the lads to see the gaffer here watching. When we got back to the Keepmoat Stadium after the Grimsby game he was full of praise for the team. “He has had them in with the first-team for a meeting on Monday mornings following the game expressing how pleased he is with their performances so he knows what they can do.
“At any level it is about consistency and the lads are looking for a pro contracts. Yes they will have the odd bad game but in the main they have got to be playing consistently better.” Rovers came from behind twice against Rotherham thanks to a blazing strike from Will McGowan and a 94th minute penalty conversion from Jack Watson. Stancliffe added: “We ask for standards and the players themselves set the standards against Grimsby so if they fall below that then they leave themselves open. “Maybe they were over-confident or too big headed and those are the words that came up in our debrief after the game. “It is disappointing and frustrating to concede two goals against the run of play because it is something
we had looked at and was aware of. We had worked on it in training to try and combat it and the first time that they do it we fall for it which is annoying.”
Ben Blythe has been appointed U18s skipper taking over the role from AJ Greaves who has moved up to the U23s. He said: “I did want the armband and I have been aiming for it for a while, so I’m glad that I have got it. “I’m always helping out and putting my name forward for things regardless of what the task is.”

Hello everyone! Welcome to our game against Lincoln City who were promoted to League One last season. Thank you all for making the game today which is a lunch time kick off. I have recently had a tracker fitted so my fitness can be monitored. I make sure I get plenty of exercise and during match days I do over 11,000 steps. I always like to take part in different things check my photo out; I was doing the album cover by The Beatles.
Enjoy the game, Donny Dog

Doncaster Rovers Belles head coach Zoey Shaw is backing her side to regroup when they take on Sheffield FC at the Keepmoat Stadium tomorrow. The Belles kicked off their FAWNL Division One Midlands campaign with a 3-0 loss to a clinical Leafield side who headed to Oxford Street off the back of promotion last season, but Shaw says there is much more to come from her young side. “I’m disappointed with the way we set our stall out in the first five or 10 minutes, and I’m disappointed about all the individual mistakes, I said to the girls at half time I understood there would be nerves but I can’t account for that,” she said. “For a lot of them it’s their first time playing here, their first time playing together, it’s a massive weight to carry the Belles name on your shoulders, but we needed to be much better than we were. “We’ll go away as coaching staff and pick it apart, and come with a plan for Sheffield and I’m sure we’ll be ready.” Shaw was left frustrated in defeat, with the Belles having much of the better play, creating more chances than their opposition but not finding that cutting edge in front of goal, and the head coach feels the loss will help her team identify their problems and adapt quickly. “It’s not as though we didn’t create chances, we had plenty of shots on goal but we just couldn’t convert anything when we had the chance, we need to get our heads round this quickly now and move on to the next game,” she added. “Take nothing away from Leafield, I thought they played really well and they took the goals brilliantly. “This week is a different focus for us in the fact it’s a cup game, we’ll iron out those problems early on, we want to win every game that we can, our focus is the league, but obviously we’ll prep well ahead of what is going to be another big test in Sheffield.”

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Keepmoat Stadium as we welcome newcomers to Sky Bet League One, Lincoln City. SAFETY Three points is not the only priority today. Making sure everyone goes home safe is the most important result. Over recent months we have been working closely with the police and the EFL to review security at the Keepmoat Stadium. Now we are asking you to do your bit. It is vital that everyone - players, staff and supporters - remains vigilant and reports any concerns to stewards or police. Attacks might be rare, and the chance of you being caught up in one unlikely, but the message is ACT #ActionCountersTerrorism. Rovers safety officer Sam Ramsden said:
"We want everyone to enjoy today’s game at the Keepmoat Stadium but if you see anything that causes you concern, tell a steward or staff member. Please do not worry that you might be wasting our time. "The stewards are here to help keep us all safe so please be patient and cooperate with their instructions. When it comes to security it has to be a team effort and we are all players." Here's a quick reminder of what you can do to help keep yourself and others safe: • Arrive early, allowing more time for security checks • Minimise what you carry, fewer bag searches will speed up entry to the ground
• Be vigilant at all times and if you see anything suspicious, tell a steward right away • If you see anything that could pose an immediate threat to safety, call 999 • In an emergency, listen to the public address instructions and follow them • If told to evacuate, do so immediately, do not wait around to film events on your mobile • Move right away from the stadium as quickly as possible for your safety and to allow clear access for any emergency vehicles • Once you are safe, follow the local police force on Twitter for updates To find out more, visit gov.uk/ACT or @TerrorismPolice

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and a warm welcome to the Keepmoat Stadium to the visiting fans from Lincoln City. Following the postponement of our league fixture away at Bolton, if you have already purchased your ticket this will stand for any rearranged fixture. If you want you can claim a refund by visiting the Club Doncaster Box Office. As of writing this, the rearranged date has not been confirmed but if and when it has been the club will provide more information. Please remember that our upcoming fixture at home to Rotherham United is a 12.30pm kick off. This will also be an all ticket fixture, there will be no pay on the game in the South Stand, all tickets must be purchased from the Club Doncaster Box Office and will be available to purchase from there on the day. One initiative that the club introduced last season
was the quiet rooms for fans that sometimes become overwhelmed by loud noises and large groups of people. This is the first of its kind at the Keepmoat Stadium. We want to ensure everyone who visits the stadiums feels comfortable and assured that we will help them get the most out of their match days. The quiet room is located in Donny Dog’s Kennel which is in the family section of the East Stand. If you feel that you need to visit the quiet room for any reason, then please contact myself or the nearest steward. This is a fantastic initiative by the club and shows that we go to great lengths to make everyone feel welcome at the Keepmoat Stadium. As always I hope you all enjoy today’s game, if you have any questions then please contact me on the usual SLO social media accounts, @SLO_DRFC on twitter, DRFC SLO on Facebook or you can email me at dean. medcalf@clubdoncaster.co.uk. SUPPORTERS CLUB
SUPPORTERS CLUB A big warm welcome to all the supporters for today’s game. Lincoln have been on a high now for the past four or five years, after spending time in the National league, and had some good cup runs. In the Cowley Brothers, they have two of the brightest young managers in the league. Also welcome back to chief executive of the Imps, our very own Liam Scully. Again this season we will be running coaches to all home and away games, the sheet with times and prices on are included in the programme but are subject to change. We have tried to keep the prices as low as we can but had to introduce a travel policy for under 16s who have to have a responsible adult travel with them. Fans who are 16-17-years-old need a consent form from their parents or guardians to travel. These can be downloaded from the Supporters Club website, on the bus or at the Supporters Club office based in the Club Doncaster Academy. Our next away game is at Bury on the final Saturday of August, buses leave Retford 11.15am, Harworth 11.20am, Bawtry/ Rossington Styrupp 11.30am,
Punches 11.35am, Infirmary 11.45am and Keepmoat Stadium 12noon. Prices are £17 adult members and £15 concessions. This programme went to print earlier in the week so we don’t know the outcome of Bury’s deadline to stay in the EFL.
For fans’ safety we will be picking up on the inner circle adjacent to Car Park 2 this season, so you can leave your car there. You can join the Supporters Club on the bus and get discount straight away, or join online or at Supporters shop located in the Club Doncaster Academy. The price is £7 adult and £5 concessions. Call Paul on 07961727769 or Len on 01302 817347 for more details and bookings. As always we will run the home match bus from Retford, Harworth and Rossington Styrupp and Labour club, times are 1pm (6pm) 1.20pm (6.20pm) and 1.30pm (6.30pm). Times in brackets are night games, and there is no need to book. Thanks to the fans and management from Rovers who attended the Main and North branch AGMs recently, both were well attended. Enjoy the game. And get behind the team. The Retford Branch AGM will be held from 7.30pm on Thursday September 19 at Retford United’s Cannon Park ground on Leverton Road. We hope to have representatives from the club’s management in attendance. All fans are welcome. Rovers Till We Die Paul Mayfield
VIKING SUPPORTERS CO-OPERATIVE Football is the national game, and football supporters are the lifeblood of the game. While many privately owned football clubs are well run, ours included, there are numerous examples over the years where this model of ownership has failed the supporters of that club, and has led to a number of clubs becoming either partly or fully owned by those supporters. The Minister Of Sport set up the Expert Working Group with the intention of looking at ways to improve engagement and dialogue between clubs and fans, and therefore to improve transparency and trust. The detailed recommendations from the EWG led to the government instructing the EFL and the Premier League to enter into structured dialogue with those supporters, and especially with the supporters trust at that club. As you may be aware the club hold two Meet The Owners events each year which meet the criteria set down by the EFL. On top of that the club have a Supporters Board which meets on a regular basis during the season to discuss a very broad range of topics. Suffice to say that DRFC have not only met the requirements but have exceeded them in both frequency and content, and that is something we can once again be proud of. Martin O'Hara

ON THE ROAD BURY Rovers travel across the Pennines to face Bury at Gigg Lane in Sky Bet League One on Saturday August 31. Ground: Gigg Lane Capacity: 11,840 Phone: 0161 764 4881 Postcode: BL9 9HR Travelling by car: Leave the M66 at Junction 3. Take the left hand exit at the junction and follow this road until you come to the junction with the A56 Manchester Road. At this T-junction which has traffic lights, turn right towards Bury. You will pass the Swan & Cemetery pub on your left and then some playing fields. At the end of the playing fields just before the traffic lights and a couple of pubs, turn right into Gigg Lane for the ground. There is no parking available at the ground itself for visiting fans. Nearby at Phoenix House on Brierley Street (BL9 9HN) there is parking at a cost of £5. Travelling by train: Bury Metrolink is served by trams from Manchester Victoria & Piccadilly railway stations. From there it is about a 10-15 minute walk from the ground.

IPSWICH TOWN Rovers travel to Suffolk to take on Ipswich Town on Saturday September 14. Ground: Portman Road Capacity: 30,311 (all seated) Phone: 03330 050503 Postcode: IP1 2DA Travelling by car: Follow the A14 around Ipswich from which the ground is well signposted. The official route takes you from the A14 onto the A1214 into Ipswich. I though prefer to leave at the next junction and take the A137. Stay straight on this road straight into Ipswich and as you cross the bridge over the river, stay in the left-hand lane (marked town centre). Once over the river turn left at the roundabout (signposted Colchester/Bury St Edmunds) passing the Punch & Judy pub on your right. Continue along this road as it bends to the left into Commercial Road, you should be able to see the Portman Road floodlights over to your right. Move into the right-hand filter lane (marked town centre) and continue to follow the road around to the right. As you reach Fitness First/ Staples move over to the left-hand lane and at the traffic lights turn left into Princes Road. Take the next left into Portman Road itself for the ground. As the Portman Road ground is located near to the town centre there is very little free street parking. Along Portman Road, there are three Pay & Display car parks which cost £4 for four hours on Saturdays. For evening games it is less as these car parks cost only £1 after 3pm. On my last visit, I parked in one of these car parks and was pleasantly surprised at the end of the game that it didn’t take too long to get away. There are a number of other car parks located in the town centre which are signposted, plus there is an NCP multi-storey car park located right next to Ipswich Railway Station, which costs £2.70 on both Saturday afternoons and weekday evenings. Travelling by train: The ground is a five-minute walk from Ipswich Railway Station.

FOUNDATION UPD Club Doncaster Foundation and Doncaster Rovers have been invited by Amnesty International UK to take part in an exciting new project to help refugees and people seeking asylum feel welcome in the area. The Football Welcomes Community Project is a three-year initiative to harness the power of the beautiful game to create more welcoming communities for refugees across the UK.
40
The Foundation will continue to work closely with Doncaster Conversation Club United (DCC United) to help members of the community who have had to flee conflict and persecution develop a sense of belonging and purpose as they settle into their new life in the UK. Over the past couple of years the Foundation’s health and wellbeing team have given asylum seekers the opportunity to take part in sport throughout Doncaster. This includes invitations to matchdays, football sessions at Club Doncaster Academy on a Friday afternoon, and opportunities to play on the Keepmoat Stadium turf alongside Rovers supporters and Fit Rovers members. There will be fun football sessions for both males and females, with help from football coaches from the Foundation and Doncaster Rovers. Both organisations will be involved in engaging and welcoming refugees and asylum seekers into the town through the power of football. They will also be looking at working with local charities and organisations in helping refugees settle into the community. Naomi Westland, Amnesty International UK’s Football Welcomes manager, said: “We’re really pleased to launch this new
programme with Club Doncaster Foundation. “The response to the Football Welcomes weekends has been so positive that we wanted to create a year-round initiative for football clubs to help create more welcoming communities for refugees. “Doncaster Rovers is at the heart of the community and has a unique ability to bring people together through a love of the beautiful game. “Even if you don’t speak the same language, playing football together can give you a sense of belonging, on and off the pitch, and it can really help people who have fled conflict and persecution to settle into a new country and culture. “We’re looking forward to working with the club, the Foundation and fans over the next three years to ensure that refugees and people seeking asylum feel welcome in Doncaster.” As well as the mental and physical health benefits playing recreational football can bring, there will be opportunities for participants to attend English classes, volunteer, undertake refereeing or coaching training or join local grassroots sides, among other activities, including the potential to obtain FA coaching badges with the Foundation.
The Foundation is one of five football club foundations and county FAs across the UK taking part in the project, which is supported by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery. It is a new addition to Amnesty’s Football Welcomes initiative, which celebrates the contribution refugees make to the beautiful game and the positive role football plays in bringing people together. Health and wellbeing officer for the Foundation, Scott Copeland, said: “We have been working with DCC United for around 16 months now and plan to increase the amount of work we do with the club. “Amnesty International’s new project will give us the chance to work more closely with our local refugee group, giving them the opportunity to develop new skills and integrate fully into the local community.” In April, the Foundation joined 177 clubs in the third annual Football Welcomes weekend, when DCC United were invited to take part in a football match at the Keepmoat Stadium. Club Doncaster will continue to support DCC United, providing them with facilities and training kit as part of the ongoing partnership.

DATE Local pool player Graeme Hampson and friend Nicky Beech have generously donated £500 to the Club Doncaster Foundation Bike Library after raising money in memory of Graeme's daughter, who would have turned 14 today. Graeme organised a pool tournament at Murphys Sports Bar in Doncaster, in memory of his daughter Corragh, who was tragically killed as the result of a hit and run incident while out riding her bike in 2016 aged just 11. Foundation health and wellbeing officer Scott Copeland said: “Graeme made contact with us many months ago and it was clear from that moment that this was something he was passionate about. “From that day on Graeme has worked tirelessly to organise a day in memory of his daughter while
raising funds to support our bike library. I would like to thank Graeme for all his hard work in organising this event and I was happy to hear the day was a huge success. “The funds that were raised will help us maintain our fleet of bikes to make cycling more accessible to the people of Doncaster and ensure that all equipment is in good working order.” Graeme, of the Amateur Blackball Pool Association, is a passionate pool player and reached out to his contacts on the pool circuit to organise the event to remember Corragh, while also raising funds for Club Doncaster Foundation’s Bike Library charitable activities. Funds were raised through entrance fees, donations and a raffle which was conducted on the day and , a total of £500 was raised for the charity.
