THE MANAGER

THE MANAGER

DARREN MOORE Good evening and welcome back to the Keepmoat Stadium. I would like to welcome Simon Grayson, as well as the supporters, players, staff and owners of Blackpool. The Seasiders have had a good start to the season, sitting level on points with us on 12, and I am sure they will look to make life difficult for us tonight. We came away from Portman Road on Saturday feeling disappointed that we had not claimed the victory we thought our performance deserved. That is a sign of how high the standards are at this club: we’ve gone and kept a clean sheet at the team tipped to win the league and we are far from satisfied. Paul Lambert, the Ipswich manager, was very complimentary about us afterwards and it says everything about our display that he was happy to get away with a point and regroup. Thank you to the 621 supporters who were in the way end on Saturday. It is a long trip down to Suffolk and the ticket prices were among the most

expensive in the league and everyone connected with the club appreciates just how much effort goes into following us up and down the country. Your backing has played a big part in our season already, and you can continue to be a real influence on us getting good performances and results going forward. I already knew the connection the club and fans have before returning to South Yorkshire, but what has been clear to me in the past couple of months is the togetherness and sense of unity that links us all. I have seen that when coming out to Q&A sessions with fans, when I see people about the town and every single day in training or here at the Keepmoat Stadium. As a whole club we are in a process of trying to better ourselves, looking to improve performances on the pitch and understanding our role in the team. We embrace what Club Doncaster is all about - an inclusive environment where we challenge each other to be the best we can. There is a clear alignment from the chairman and board of directors, through the staff, volunteers, players and fans. That togetherness is going to be really important to us this season. Thank you for your support.

THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE

CHIEF EXECUTIVE

GAVIN BALDWIN Good evening and welcome back to the Keepmoat Stadium. I’d like to welcome the supporters, owners, players and staff of Blackpool who have made the trip over the Pennines tonight. Although we know we have a tough game ahead of us tonight, it is really pleasing to be able to write these notes with Rovers still unbeaten in the league. An average of two points per game is more than creditable, and gives us a real platform to build on as we head into autumn. As I write these notes we are waiting to receive some guidance from the EFL as to whether we will be awarded the points for the fixture at Bolton which was called off but we can only concentrate on ourselves, as Darren, his staff and the players are all doing. Saturday’s performance at Ipswich Town has rightfully earned plaudits, and to come away from a team tipped as title winners disappointed to have only got a point and kept a clean sheet is testament to how high we are aiming. As Darren has touched on in his notes, the backing of so many fans at Portman Road was fantastic given many of you will have had a very long day travelling down to Suffolk and back. The lads really do appreciate the support, please

keep getting behind them and together we can help them prolong the good start to the campaign as long as possible. I would like to congratulate Doncaster RLFC on finishing fourth in Betfred League One, securing their place in the play-offs as they fight for a place in the Championship. Chief executive Carl Hall and head coach Richard Horne, along with their staff, have done a great job building a team to compete at the top end of the

table which was evidenced on Sunday with a really impressive 20-6 win at Newcastle to set up a trip to Oldham in the second semi-final. I wish them luck in their remaining knockout games - hopefully they’ve one more to come after the trip to Oldham. Enjoy the game.

FEATURE:

TOM ANDERSON Throughout Rovers’ impressive start to the 2019/20 campaign, Tom Anderson has been a standout performer at the heart of the defence.

Anderson has started every league game and shown the leadership qualities which every good centreback has in abundance. He is now in his second full season with the club after signing from Burnley in the summer of 2018, and believes a regular run in the team has done him the world of good. “The main thing for me is to be enjoying playing regularly, after a good pre-season which is always important I feel fit and confident in myself,” he says. “Last season I would play a few games and then be back on the bench which is difficult because you never know how long you’re going to be in the team for. “I couldn’t do much at certain times because the other lads put some

really good partnerships together so I had to be patient. “I felt like when I came in I always gave everything and performed well, which I suppose is all you can do as a player. “Fortunately this year I’ve had a good run in the team, I think since the Grimsby game in pre-season I’ve hardly missed a minute so the challenge now is to keep working hard.” With the likes of Andy Butler leaving the club in the summer, Anderson has grasped the opportunity to become one of the leaders in the Rovers dressing room with both hands. He has been partnered for the most part this season by Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Cameron John, and believes the young defender has shown ability beyond his years.

“Cameron has come in and done really well, he’s only a young lad but has shown a lot of maturity with his performances,” says Anderson. “Last season I worked with some really experienced defenders and I think that has benefitted me in the early stages of this campaign. “Seeing how different players act on and off the pitch is good to learn from and see how they go about their business and lead by example. “Butts has obviously left the club now and that has given me an opportunity to step up and take more responsibility on my shoulders. “I try and keep improving my game and I feel I’m getting better, I’m at a good age and hopefully I can be somebody the younger lads look up to.” Following the appointment of Darren Moore as the club’s manager in the summer, Rovers have had someone in charge who has both played and managed at Premier League level. Moore’s career was spent as a no-nonsense defender – something else which will allow Anderson to learn and develop in that very same position. His management style brings a calming presence to the Rovers dressing room, although he knows when to change things up in terms of making sure the squad are focused on the task in hand. “The manager being a former centre-back is ideal for me and means I can work with him every day on areas I can improve,” he says. “To have someone like him who has such a successful career it’s brilliant for me and the rest of

the lads to take his advice on board and learn as much as possible. “He’s managed at the top level as well so he knows what it takes to be a top player and that is why the club have done well to get him here. “He still hasn’t been here that long so he is still getting his ideas across, but the lads have really taken to him so far and that is showing on the pitch. “He’s shown his contacts in the game when you look at the quality of player he has already brought to the club, and most of them have made a really good impact on the team. “He has a calming effect in the dressing room but if we need it he will get us going and give us a talking to at times.” Although it’s not the way they plan to win games, Rovers have found an ability to win games by coming from behind so far this season. The character within the group ensures they never know when they are beaten, with a number of late goals being scored to turn potential draws into a win. That stems down from the manager’s belief in the players according to Anderson, as well as team spirit which has been there throughout his time at the club despite various changes in personnel.

“I think we’ve made a very good start in the league, after two draws to start off with we’ve beaten three very good teams to show the side we are,” he adds. “Since I’ve been at the club although there have been changes in personnel one thing that hasn’t changed is the work ethic and togetherness of the group. “We play for each other and that is important in any team and something which gives us the edge over the opposition. “We have gone behind a few times in games but there is never any panic because we know the quality we’ve got in the squad and what we are capable of doing. “We’ve played a couple of games less than everyone else, normally at the start of the season you play Saturday and Tuesday every week which gets you into a rhythm. Having games called off against Bolton and Bury made it difficult for us with an enforced break but we’ve trained hard and kept momentum going. “We’ve got some really big games coming up and the start we’ve had means we have a good platform to build on. There are no easy games in this league as we’ve seen so far, but we’ve also shown that if we play well we can beat anybody.”

BLACKPOOL:

FOUR TO WATCH JAK

ALNWICK Was drafted into Blackpool’s squad this summer on loan from Scottish Premiership side Rangers after Mark Howard sustained an Achilles injury in a 3-0 defeat at Burton Albion in March this year. His presence between the sticks had played a role in the Seas=siders starting the season brightly. League One is not foreign territory for him as he has already played for Bradford City, Port Vale and Scunthorpe United in this division, meaning his experience will be vital for the Seasiders this term.

JAY

SPEARING An experienced figure in League One football, boasting more than 340 career appearances at the age of 30. He left Bolton – where he spent four years commanding their midfield – to join Blackpool on the back of their promotion back to League One in 2017. The captain was one of the scorers during their 2-0 victory against Bristol Rovers.

RYAN

EDWARDS Blackpool’s new No.5 joined the club after Plymouth Argyle’s relegation at the back end of last season. He kept a clean sheet on his debut for the club which came on the opening day of the 2019/20 season during a 2-0 win against Bristol Rovers. Three games later he scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 victory over Oxford United. The six-foot five defender towered high to send a bullet header past Simon Eastwood from a corner.

SULLAY

KAIKAI The winger is still only 24 but has collected plenty of EFL experience after a number of loan spells from Crystal Palace - having come through the ranks at the London club. He had temporary spells at Crawley, Cambridge, Shrewsbury, Brentford and Charlton. His first permanent move away from Selhurst Park was to Erediviie side NAC Breda this January, but made a quick return to the UK this summer when he moved to Bloomfield Road. He has been a regular for Simon Grayson’s side this season, clocking up four goals in 10 competitive outings.

KYLE LETHEREN GOALKEEPER The Welsh-born keeper came through Swansea City’s Academy, signing his first professional contract in 2005 with the club. A move to South Yorkshire followed one year later when he joined Barnsley, but after three seasons of not playing at Oakwell he was loaned out to Rovers for the second half of the 2008/09 season to cover for Neil Sullivan. Like at The Tykes he made not appearances at the Keepmoat Stadium. His first big break came for Dundee in when he was installed as their number one keeper, making over 50 appearances at Dens Park. He is currently on the books at Sky Bet League Two side Salford City after joining Graham Alexander’s side this summer.

16

JACK ASHURST DEFENDER Ashurst started his career in the north east with Sunderland where he made 140 appearances over seven years in their back line. A move to Blackpool followed when he signed for Stan Ternent’s side in 1979 for a fee of £132,400 – which at the time was a record transfer for a Lancashire club. Two years he later he left and went on to spend time at Carlisle and Leeds United before joining Rovers in 1988. As well as appearing 139 times at Belle Vue, he spent a period of time out on loan at Bridlington Town. He retired after a short spell at Frickley Athletic in the mid-90s and the now 64-year-old made 616 professional appearances in his lengthy career. JOHN DOOLAN MIDFIELDER The Liverpudlian came through the ranks at Everton but was released in 1992 after struggling to sneak into the first-team picture. Then came moves to Mansfield and Barnet where he amassed 313 appearances with both clubs. His impressive stint at with the Bees earned him a move to Doncaster in March 2003 where he ended up playing in the conference play-off final, ultimately earning promotion to the Football League Third Division that year. He won a second successive promotion with the club in as Rovers went up from the Third Division as champions, signing a new contract at the end of the season. A move to Blackpool followed in 2005 after his release

SHARED 5-A-SIDE from Belle Vue but only six months into his time with the Seasiders he moved to League Two side Rochdale. UCHE IKPEAZU FORWARD The 24-year-old rose through the ranks at Reading but was picked up by Premier League side Watford in 2013 where he spent three years within their development squad. Tough competition led to six loan spells in his time there, one of which came at Rovers in 2015. But, after failing to score in seven games quickly returned to Watford and was loaned back out to League Two’s Crewe Alexandra for the third time. In 2016 he was released by The Hornets and earned a permanent move to Cambridge United where he netted 19 times in 69 games. This caught the eye of Scottish Premiership side Hearts who took a punt on the forward and signed him on a free transfer. PETER DOHERTY FORWARD The inside forward grew up in Ireland but moved to Northern Ireland at a young age to play for Station United, Coleraine and Glentoran. 1933 saw his big move to England come about when he was recruited by Blackpool. At the age of 19 he left the seaside for Manchester City which was then for a club-record fee of £10,000. He did not want to leave Blackpool, but the club needed him to leave to try and help alleviate their financial woes. He went on to spend nine years at City, scoring 74 goals in his time. Spells at Derby and Huddersfield followed before he moved to Rovers in 1949 and made 103 appearances for the club, scoring 56 times. All at the same time he was entrusted as a player-manager of the club and managed Northern Ireland at the same too.

17 Rovers and Blackpool have been regular opponents in recent years, with the meetings often close encounters. Rovers have had the edge in league meetings over the past couple of seasons in League One, with a 2-0 victory in this fixture last season. Herbie Kane opened the scoring with a long-range strike on the stroke of half-time, with John Marquis adding the second. The most recent meeting ended in a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road, as it has done 12 times previously in the league, back in March. A stunning 73rd minute strike from the Rovers skipper Tommy Rowe cancelled out Michael Nottingham’s opener to claim a point on the road for Grant McCann’s men in the pouring rain on the Lancashire coast. Rovers have had quite a bit of success against Blackpool in the FA Cup, beating them twice out of the three occasions the side have met. Our largest margin of victory against Blackpool actually came in the competition which was a 4-1 pummelling in the 2005/06 season. The Seasiders have twice claimed 4-0 victories in the league fixture - in 1936 at Belle Vue and 1985 at Bloomfield Road.

ROVERS MANAGERS

IN THE HOT SEAT:

DONCASTER ROVERS MANAGERS FROM 1920

PETER DOHERTY (1949-1958) Peter Doherty was one of the finest footballers of the 1930s and 1940s, a gifted inside forward with an eye for goal. In addition to his 16 full caps for Northern Ireland, he won a Football League Champions medal while with Manchester City and was a member of Derby County’s FA Cup winning side. He joined Rovers as player-manager for a fee of around £8,000 after spending nearly three years at Huddersfield Town. He was to lead Rovers into their most successful era. Doherty’s appointment brought immediate dividends as Rovers won the Division Three (North) title in 1949-50, the player-boss himself contributing 27 League goals. He also made some important signings including centre-forward Ray Harrison and full-back Len Graham. Doherty demonstrated the innovative approach that was to be his hallmark, setting up nursery sides in South Yorkshire and Newcastle and appointing a scout in Ireland. He also supervised the building of a nursery ground at Thorne. Rovers’ previous efforts in Division Two had been short-lived, but Doherty saw to it that the club survived and prospered at the higher level. Rovers’ best placing was 11th in 1950-51, but they were seldom in danger of relegation and the era featured some memorable games. A 4-3 victory over Doherty’s old club, Manchester City, after Rovers trailed 0-3 at the interval, was the highlight of 1950-51. FA Cup triumphs over Middlesbrough and Sunderland were followed by the famous tie with Aston Villa in 1954-55 when Rovers beat the First Division side in the fourth replay. However, results do not reflect Doherty’s real value as a

manager. He was an innovator, introducing floodlights for training and then using them for a series of well-attended friendlies. He brought Alick Jeffrey into the first team before the Rawmarsh youngster had celebrated his 16th birthday and saw his young protégé emerge as an outstanding footballer. Doherty retired as a player at the end of the 1952-53 season (just before his 40th birthday) but he had already taken on the part-time role of manager of the Northern Ireland national side, a position he held until 1962. Doherty’s main problem was that Rovers never quite enjoyed the attendances required to support his progressive policies or, more crucially, to allow him to hold on to his best players. In December 1957 Rovers were forced to sell goalkeeper Harry Gregg, a player discovered by Doherty, to Manchester United for £25,000. Doherty was upset by this decision, but in any case, his position was coming under threat. Rovers were second from bottom of Division Two in January 1958 and rumours abounded of disputes between Doherty and Hubert Bates member of the Rovers board. On 20th January 1958 the club announced that Doherty had resigned to take up a similar post at Rovers’ Second Division rivals Bristol City. His contract was believed to be of five years’ duration, although he was only to stay for two years before being sacked. He later worked for Notts. County, Aston Villa, Preston, Sunderland and Blackpool in various capacities. Perhaps his greatest managerial achievement was to take Northern Ireland to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Sweden in 1958. Doherty, who was a champion of players’ rights and an opponent of the maximum wage, was in many ways a men before his time. His departure from Belle Vue heralded a grim period in the history of the Rovers. Peter Doherty died in April 1990, aged 76. John Coyle

THE ACADEMY

Despite goals from Charlie Bell, Lirak Hasani and Will McGowan, Rovers' U18s were defeated 6-3 by Mansfield in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup. Paul Stancliffe made three changes to his side which saw Liam Ravenhill, Luca Nelson and Lewis Cunningham replaced by Bell, Josh Clemitson and Max Jemson.

Hasani hit the ball to the right of goal, sending Leon Philips in the opposite direction.

Rovers U11s continued their impressive start to the current season with a very pleasing performance against Rotherham United.

The Stags responded instantly, with Kyle Tomlin cannoning the ball past Bottomley from distance.

The 2019/20 season marks the first season of 9 v 9 football for this current squad and the players have adapted well to the new set up with good performances individually and as a team.

In the final five minutes of the game the sides scored a total of four goals between them. Starting with Knowles reaching his brace after turning home another freekick.

Lead Foundation Phase coach Tom Sutton said: “It’s pleasing to see the benefits of the new 1v1 project incorporated in the coaching syllabus bearing fruits within the players’ performances.

Rovers took the lead after six minutes with a cool as you like finish coming from Bell, who was just outside the 18-yard box.

Substitute Ryan Ingram made profit from another set-piece for Mansfield as he tapped the ball past Bottomley.

Mansfield equalised moments later when Jimmy Knowles headed home from Isaac Fisher's free-kick.

Ingram then took advantage of a deflated opposition by scoring The Stags' sixth.

“The players are taking on information from the coaches and applying it to their matchday experience. It’s always good to see players progressing and this is certainly a group that is doing that.”

The Stags took the lead before the break when Nathan Caine turned the ball past Ben Bottomley.

McGowan grabbed Rovers a consolation after a quick attack from Rovers at the restart.

Rovers won a penalty after 51 minutes when McGowan was fouled in the box. Composed,

Mansfield return to Cantley Park this Saturday to take on Rovers in the EFL Youth Alliance League.

Two Mansfield centre-halves collided during a Rovers attack which invited Elliott Walker through into space to put a problematic ball into a dangerous area. Junior Smith dashed on goal to connect but the ball bobbled just over his head.

The Academy is always looking to provide young players with the best tools and best opportunities to ultimately sign professional contracts but also works hard to ensure these Doncaster boys become great young men as well as great footballers.

Hello everyone! Welcome to our visitors today, Blackpool. Thank you to Doncaster Titans who were our flag barers and penalty takers at our last game against Rotherham. There were so many great penalties and I wanted to share this photo with you all. I always enjoy having fun and even though my goalkeeping skills are not the best it is great for those that take part. Let’s make plenty of noise this evening – COME ON YOU REDS!

Enjoy the game, Donny Dog

DONCASTER BELLES

The Belles suffered defeat in frustrating circumstances against Birmingham and West Midlands in the FAWNL Division One Midlands on Sunday. The hosts scored twice after the break to take three points at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground with the Belles not getting the rub of the green. The Belles started on the front foot, with debutant Eva Madarang finding Chloe Bethell in space, but her effort was saved well by Shannon Turner in the home goal. Kirsty Johnson in the opposite goal would have to be alert moments later, with a long ball over the top finding Holly Rogers, but her effort from close range was saved by the Belles' no. 1. Nadia Bacciochi would then go close for Birmingham and West Midlands, getting into space insdie the area before firing just wide of the post. Johnson was being kept busy in the opening half hour, saving shots from Rogers and Bacciochi in quick succession to keep the hosts at bay. She would be unable to do anything about the next shot, with Laura Cooper's long-range effort beating the dive of Johnson but not the post, with the ball eventually being claimed by the Belles stopper after hitting the woodwork.

Rogers had two chances to strike just before the break, firstly rattling the crossbar from the edge of the box after beating Rachel Taylor to the ball, before Johnson's save from another shot in added on time at the end of the half.

The Belles came straight back though and were inches away from equalising seconds later, with substitute Kazia Walby seeing a header bounce off the post, with Madarang and Emily Burgin seeing follow-up efforts blocked.

The hosts began well after the break, and Tori Thomas did well to force pressure onto Amelia Kirk, with the home substitute firing high and wide from inside the box.

Johnson down the other end was still being kept busy, and Jade Grove was the next home forward to see an effort stopped superbly from close range.

Tanya Dickinson then curled the ball just wide from a corner, and the hosts were in the ascendancy as they looked to grab the opener. Johnson and Bacciochi continued their personal battle, with the Birmingham and West Midlands striker seeing the Belles' goalkeeper down low to her left to tip the ball around the post. Bacciochi would see another shot palmed around the post just four minutes later by Johnson, but from the resulting corner, the hosts would take the lead. A corner from the right was swung in and Rogers finally got the goal she had been searching for, getting to the ball first in a crowd of bodies to head home.

Johnson would produce an even better save a few minutes later with Dickinson taking aim from distance, only to find the Belles stopper on hand to tip over the bar. Dickinson did get her goal with a minute left of normal time, looping the ball into the far corner after a clearance fell to her feet in plenty of space. Another Belles' substitute Becca Austin would have the game's final chance with a shot from the edge of the box but Turner was on hand to claim the ball. The Belles will now look to bounce back next weekend when they face another away trip, with Leicester United their next opponents in the FAWNL Division One Midlands.

SAFETY Three points is not the only priority today. Making sure everyone goes home safe is the most important result. Over recent months we have been working closely with the police and the EFL to review security at the Keepmoat Stadium. Now we are asking you to do your bit. It is vital that everyone - players, staff and supporters - remains vigilant and reports any concerns to stewards or police. Attacks might be rare, and the chance of you being caught up in one unlikely, but the message is ACT #ActionCountersTerrorism. Rovers safety officer Sam Ramsden said:

"We want everyone to enjoy today’s game at the Keepmoat Stadium but if you see anything that causes you concern, tell a steward or staff member. Please do not worry that you might be wasting our time. "The stewards are here to help keep us all safe so please be patient and cooperate with their instructions. When it comes to security it has to be a team effort and we are all players." Here's a quick reminder of what you can do to help keep yourself and others safe: • Arrive early, allowing more time for security checks • Minimise what you carry, fewer bag searches will speed up entry to the ground

• Be vigilant at all times and if you see anything suspicious, tell a steward right away • If you see anything that could pose an immediate threat to safety, call 999 • In an emergency, listen to the public address instructions and follow them • If told to evacuate, do so immediately, do not wait around to film events on your mobile • Move right away from the stadium as quickly as possible for your safety and to allow clear access for any emergency vehicles • Once you are safe, follow the local police force on Twitter for updates To find out more, visit gov.uk/ACT or @TerrorismPolice

35 Good evening ladies and gentleman, welcome to the Keepmoat Stadium and a very warm welcome to all the visiting fans from Blackpool. I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of all of the work that the supporter liaison officers do. The aim of the SLO role is to provide information and guidance to supporters, while also providing a communication link between the supporters and the club management and the club management back to the supporters. I use many different communication links to talk to supporters such as twitter (@SLO_DRFC), Facebook (DRFCSLO), email (dean.medcalf@clubdoncaster.co.uk) and also face to face. If you don’t see me then I am contactable by the stewards on the radios you can contact me on Facebook or Twitter and I will come and find you. After the game, I will first be outside the away end to again help and talk to any away supporters as they leave the ground and head back to their transport and make sure that they enjoyed their visit to the Keepmoat Stadium. Following this, you will find me located in the Belle Vue Bar to gather any feedback from fans relating to any issues. Following the game I work with the away fans on social media gathering feedback from their visit to the Keepmoat Stadium, this is something that not many clubs do and it allows me to pass information back to the club to see how we can help improve the matchday experience for everyone.

The SLO role is also here to help the visiting supporters who come to the Keepmoat Stadium. When the away supporter coaches arrive I will be waiting to greet them and to help direct our visitors or help in any way I can.

So I hope you find this brief description of what a typical match day is for an SLO and what we are trying to achieve on match days. As always you can contact me on social media or via email, all of my details are above.

VIKING SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE Football is the national game, and football supporters are the lifeblood of the game. While many privately owned football clubs are well run, ours included, there are numerous examples over the years where this model of ownership has failed the supporters of that club, and has led to a number of clubs becoming either partly or fully owned by those supporters. The Minister Of Sport set up the Expert Working Group with the intention of looking at ways to improve engagement and dialogue between clubs and fans, and therefore to improve transparency and trust. The detailed recommendations from the EWG led to the government instructing the EFL and the Premier League to enter into structured dialogue with those supporters, and especially with the supporters trust at that club. As you may be aware the club hold two Meet The Owners events each year which meet the criteria set down by the EFL. On top of that the club have a Supporters Board which meets on a regular basis during the season to discuss a very broad range of topics. Suffice to say that DRFC have not only met the requirements but have exceeded them in both frequency and content, and that is something we can once again be proud of. Martin O'Hara

FOUNDATION UPD More than 60 teams from across the UK and Jersey took part in the fourth annual Club Doncaster Titans football tournament. Hosted by Club Doncaster Titans staff and volunteers from Club Doncaster Foundation’s Fit Rovers programme, close to 500 people were able to pull on their club’s shirt and play for a chance to be crowned champions at the end of a fun-filled day in the glorious sunshine.

Teams battled it out in an eightleague format, with eight league winners being announced at the end of the day.

out there which allow people to play football, no matter what level of ability they are. The opportunity is there for them.

Football coach Martin Taylor, who represented the Titans as a goalkeeper, has been involved with the Titans for several years.

The tournament, held on the Club Doncaster Academy pitches outside the Keepmoat Stadium, allows those who suffer with their mental and physical health the chance to be part of a wider footballing community.

“We as a club are committed to supporting every player. Our annual tournament allows us to bring people together and let me experience playing football in a team, whilst making new friends and memories.”

He said: “I’m out here playing today because of Darren. He had the faith in me when I had a bad injury and encouraged me to get back out on the field.

Titans chairman Darren Warner said: “We feel it is important to be inclusive and promote equality throughout all our sessions.

As the tournament begins to establish itself as one of the biggest in the region for those suffering with mental and physical disabilities, players and supporters alike have voiced their praise of the Titans.

“It’s also very important to make people aware that there are teams

“Tournaments like this always brings out the best in people – everyone who played was a winner." Teams flocked to the tournament from all areas of the UK, including three teams from Jersey. Having arrived on the mainland on

DATE the Friday night, the teams performed admirably, representing Jersey with pride and passion. Mark Jones, coach of the Jersey Learning Disabilities Football Team, said: “The entire tournament has been amazing. “Club Doncaster Titans have done a fantastic job organising this entire event, we would just like to thank them for all their hard work. “We try and get over to the mainland around three times a year, so for Club Doncaster to invite us to a tournament of this size is just brilliant. Well done to all those involved.”

Club Doncaster Sports College students are celebrating another incredible year of success with a 97.6% pass rate across all sports qualifications for the academic year 2018/19. A total of 123 further education students contributed to the pass rate for all academic sports courses based at the Keepmoat Stadium. These further education results coincide with Club Doncaster Sports College’s first cohort of higher education students graduating with a BSC (Hons) sport and exercise science degree this year. Principal Adi Turnpenny said: “Club Doncaster Sports College is consistently producing excellent results and progressing young people into positive destinations. The College has celebrated its 10th anniversary this year and we are extremely proud of the work we are doing at our Stadium for Education.
