"THE BACKING OF SUPPORTERS ON SATURDAY WAS A REAL HELP, YOU HELPED DRIVE US ON TO DRAW LEVEL AND SEARCH FOR A WINNER"
GRANT McCANN GOOD EVENING, AND WELCOME BACK TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM FOR OUR SECOND GAME IN FOUR DAYS. I hope everyone who was here on Saturday felt they got their money’s worth for attending, though of course I am sure like me you were frustrated we only got one point out of the game. Although I always look at any draws at home as two points dropped, I have to give real credit to my players for the belief they showed in the second half to make sure we got something out of the game. It was one of the most one-sided games I think I have ever been involved in, we were on the front foot throughout and if we repeat that endeavour tonight we will give ourselves a great chance of claiming some points.
you helped drive us on to draw level and search for a winner. We are expecting a good crowd tonight and more of the same from you can really help us. I know we had a particularly busy family stand on Saturday, with more than 350 visitors from Carr Lodge Academy as well as a Women At The Game Event. I hope a few catch the bug and are with us tonight. Enjoy the game.
The backing of supporters on Saturday was a real help,

"WE PUT ON OUR SECOND WOMEN AT THE GAME INITIATIVE, WHICH IS TRYING TO BREAK DOWN BARRIERS WOMEN CAN FEEL THERE IS ABOUT ATTENDING FOOTBALL MATCHES"
GAVIN BALDWIN GOOD EVENING, AND WELCOME TO WHAT I AM SURE WILL BE A GREAT GAME AGAINST SUNDERLAND TONIGHT. BOTH SIDES HAVE HAD A GOOD START TO THE SEASON AND SIT IN THE PLAY-OFF PLACES SO IT IS BOUND TO BE A CRACKER. Saturday’s result was frustrating, but the same cannot be said of the performance. As the manager says in his notes, it was one of the most one-sided matches we’ve ever been involved in. One thing supporters told me over the summer was a desire for a more entertaining and attacking brand of football here at the Keepmoat Stadium - and Grant is certainly trying to deliver that. As a football club we do a lot of work that may not be seen by all supporters to expand our revenue and support base. Last week I joined the chairman and other club staff in taking a look around the new leisure centre facilities at XP East, the school which is based alongside the Club Doncaster Sports Village. We will be working with the school to manage those facilities and make them available for wider use through our existing Club Doncaster Academy which manages all the pitches we have between the main stadium and the schools. This is yet another example of where the Club Doncaster model - expanding sporting opportunities for
people in the area, plus opening up new revenue streams - can really benefit us. We also had some new faces at Saturday’s match. We put on our second Women At The Game initiative, which is trying to break down barriers women can feel there is about attending football matches. We also had more than 350 children and parents from Carr Lodge Academy through our partnership with Trax FM. Our marketing team work hard putting together offers such as these to ensure we are developing future fans. Add in the flagbearing and other matchday experiences, plus regular events like our Junior Takeover Day, and we are confident we are securing these fans for the future. Enjoy the game.

BEN N A M E WHIT BEN WHITEMAN HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING IN ROVERS FIRST 14 GAMES OF THE SKY BET LEAGUE ONE SEASON. The midfielder has scored, picked up five yellow cards, and even made a cameo appearance in goal against Portsmouth in August. More importantly though, he has been an integral part of Grant McCann’s side. “I’ve had a bit of everything so far this season in the games we’ve had, as long as I’m helping the team then I’m happy,” he says. “It’s been very enjoyable, I think the fans are off their seats with some of the exciting players we have in our team. “I’m enjoying playing games and my role within the team, the gaffer has put a lot of trust in myself to be the anchor in midfield but also to get around the pitch. “The manager came in and has a way that he likes to play, it’s a system that is set up to score a lot of goals.”

Whiteman kept a clean sheet while between the sticks, and earnt praise for his willingness to help the team out in their hour of need.
“They have had a really good impact on the squad and we’ve had a really good start, but we know how important it is to keep that going.
He says it came instinctively to him, and wanted to be able to make a difference rather than putting the pressure on one of his teammates.
“You need to have determination and an ability to win games in different ways, it’s not an easy league to get out of and you need to grind out results.
“I said after the game I felt confident, I didn’t want there to be a situation where someone had to go in who didn’t really want to,” says Whiteman.
“There are going to be tough places to go in this league where you have to dig deep, and we’ve shown already that we’re capable of doing that.”
“I wanted to take the situation by the scruff of the neck and do it, I tried to help as much as I could for the short time I had the gloves.
Rovers have become noticed for their ruthless edge in both defence and attack this season, which has lead them to fourth place in the table.
“The defenders in front of me guided me through it, I always take an interest in what the keepers do and say so that probably helped me as well.
Part of that has seen them pick up quite a few yellow cards, something which Whiteman believes comes as part of the territory.
“I only had one shot to save and that is a credit to the defence, it was a game where we had the chances towards the end to even get the win.” The 22-year-old is one of a number of players who benefitted from a year at Sky Bet League One level last season. Rovers now look like a team more than capable of challenging at the top end of the table, following some impressive results so far in the current campaign. “I think a lot of the young lads have come through their first season at this level and we’ve added some very good players to the group,” he says.

"THERE ARE GOING TO BE TOUGH PLACES TO GO IN THIS LEAGUE WHERE YOU HAVE TO DIG DEEP"
“The ruthless edge has been a progression with our development, we didn’t do too well last season in terms of league position so we wanted to improve on that,” he says. “We were very secure when we played in certain formations so we didn’t get countered on too often, but now with how open we play people notice it more. “You’ve got to do what’s necessary at times, we’ve had a couple of players now pick up a suspension for five yellow cards but we’ve won games while doing that. “At the end of the day we’re doing well in the league so nobody is too bothered about it, we don’t want to take that side out of our game. “I don’t think we have to be worried about it, injuries and suspensions come throughout the season but we have a strong enough squad to deal with that. It shows how strong the squad is that when we’ve had players missing this season we haven’t missed them too much.” Much has been made to Rovers’ attacking style with their ability to score at any given moment during a game, but Whiteman has been impressed with the defensive side of things as well.
"WE HAD BIG CROWDS AGAINST BLACKBURN AND WIGAN LAST SEASON BUT THIS GAME HAS MUCH MORE RIDING ON IT FOR BOTH TEAMS" “A lot of what we do is focused on our attacking play, but to be fair we’ve been very tight at the other end,” he says. “We have Andy Butler who is one of the best in the league at blocking shots, and we’re good at closing down counter attacks as well. “We believe in ourselves and the manager and the coaching staff all believe in us as well which is why we’re getting results on the pitch.” Sunderland are the visitors to the Keepmoat Stadium this evening, in a clash which has a lot riding on it given the league position of the two clubs. “We always take one game at a time, but we have heard whispers of how many fans Sunderland are going to bring so it should be a good atmosphere,” Whiteman adds. “We had big crowds against Blackburn and Wigan last season but this game has much more riding on it for both teams, we’re both doing well at the top end of the table. “They are a good team and were in the Premier League not too long ago, they’ve had difficulties off the pitch but their fans are sticking by them. “We always look forward to playing at home no matter who we’re up against, it’s an enjoyable place to play your football especially when we’re winning games. “Everyone is coming into work with a smile on their face, so the mood we’re in we want to go into every game and take the three points on offer.”

JON McLAUGHLIN TOP STOPPER
01
The Black Cats’ stopper arrived on Wearside over the summer following his departure from Heart of Midlothian. Prior to his season with Hearts, McLaughlin was on the books at Burton Albion, becoming a key figure between the sticks for the Brewers as he helped them to back-to-back promotions from League Two and up into the Championship for the first time in the club’s history. McLaughlin spent six years with Bradford City between 2008 and 2014, coming on in the League Cup final in 2013 at Wembley Stadium after their stunning cup run, before starting in the Bantams’ League Two play-off final success just a couple of months later. Earlier this year, McLaughlin made his international debut for Scotland, playing in the Tartan Army’s 1-0 defeat to Mexico at the Estadio Azteca.
LEE CATTERMOLE MIDFIELD MAESTRO
06
The 30-year old midfielder is now in his tenth season with the Black Cats following his move from Wigan Athletic in 2009. Cattermole began his career with Middlesborough, helping them get to the final of the UEFA Cup in 2006, before joining Wigan in 2008. Following a season in the Premier League with the Latics, Cattermole made his way back across to the North East, where he has remained ever since, often seen wearing the captain’s armband up until this season. Cattermole is a man with youth international experience, having represented England from under-16 level through to the under-21 level. With the under-21s, Cattermole was part of the side that came runners-up in the 2009 UEFA European Championship.

The Costa Rican full-back appeared at this summer’s World Cup in Russia, making two appearances in the finals. Oviedo’s first taste of football in Europe came with Copenhagen, where he would claim one Superliga title and earn two Danish Cup successes, being named as player of the tournament in 2011/12. His good form saw him make his move to England with Everton in 2012, with one of his most notable moments in a Toffees’ shirt seeing him score the winning goal in a game with Manchester United in December 2013, earning Everton their first win at Old Trafford in 21 years. Oviedo joined the Black Cats in 2017, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Stadium of Light.
JOSH MAJA DEADLY STRIKER
20
The young striker has hit the ground running in League One so far this season after bagging nine goals in his first 12 games. Maja joined Sunderland in 2015 following his departure from the academy system at Fulham, and after progressing through the ranks at the Stadium of Light, he made his first team debut away at Queens Park Rangers in the League Cup in 2016. He scored his first goal for the Black Cats against Fulham in December 2017, and so far in the third tier leads the way as joint top-scorer, with two goals in his last two games helping him to the top of the charts.

TWO PLAYERS FROM ONE OF ROVERS MORE SUCCESSFUL PERIODS MAKE UP OUR CLUB CONNECTIONS, WITH SEAN THORNTON MAKING A NAME FOR HIMSELF IN THE 2005/06 LEAGUE CUP CAMPAIGN. The Irishman signed for the Black Cats in 2002, following a season with Tranmere Rovers, and he would go on to spend three years at the Stadium of Light, with a brief loan spell at Blackpool during his time on Wearside. Thornton would also make international appearances for the Republic of Ireland youth sides during his early years, earning 12 under-21 caps for the Green Army. Thornton would make 20 appearances in his final season with the Black Cats, as they won promotion to the Premier League after winning the Championship title in 2005, going on to sign for Rovers the following summer. In his first season with the club, he was an influential figure in the club’s run to the quarter-final of the League Cup, scoring in a 3-0 win over Premier League Aston Villa before defeat at Belle Vue against Arsenal on penalties. His second season in South Yorkshire would go on to be another successful one, as he was again a key player for Rovers, this time in their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy victory in Cardiff over Bristol Rovers. His corner in extra time saw Graeme Lee rise highest to head home the winner at the Millennium Stadium to secure the trophy for Rovers for the first ever time. After his departure from Rovers in 2007, Thornton spent three years with Leyton Orient, before spells with three Welsh sides, Aberystwyth Town, Conwy Borough and Bala Town, before signing for hometown club Drogheda United, whom he left last year after two seasons back in Ireland. The second connection is a man who became a firm fan favourite in DN4 across two very successful spells, with CHRIS BROWN scoring some crucial goals in two title-winning campaigns, albeit nine years apart. His first spell with Rovers came during his time onloan from Sunderland, with Brown helping his hometown club to the Division Three title, scoring 10 goals in 22 league games, including one on his debut for the club in a 5-1 win over Bristol Rovers at Belle Vue. Brown returned to Sunderland and helped them to the Championship title, alongside Thornton, scoring five goals, including the first

goal of Roy Keane’s managerial career. After a season in the Premier League, as well as a loan at Hull City the following season, Brown made a move to Norwich City, spendingoneand-a-half seasons with Norwich, before a switch to Preston North End, where he would spend four years at Deepdale. It would be from here where he would make his return to Doncaster, signing an initial two-year deal at the Keepmoat Stadium. Despite an injury-hit first season with Rovers, he helped them to the League One title in 2013, scoring eight league goals, including the winner in a 3-2 away win at rivals Scunthorpe United. Brown would play in the final day showdown with Brentford, coming off for Billy Paynter, who would go on to set up the winning goal and earn Rovers promotion to the Championship in the final minute. Brown spent one more season with Rovers, scoring nine times in the Championship, but ultimately it wouldn’t be enough to prevent relegation and an immediate return to League One. Brown switched Rovers to Blackburn following his departure from Doncaster, before making a move across Lancashire to Bury in 2016, where he would finish his career. Brown, alongside former Preston and Rovers teammate, Jon Parkin, now hosts popular podcast Undr the Cosh, where he interviews other former teammates about their playing careers, as well as some entertaining stories from their time with different clubs. MEMORABLE MATCH SUNDERLAND
JULY 29 2015
Rovers defeated Premier League opposition as they beat Sunderland 2-0 in a pre-season friendly at the Keepmoat Stadium back in 2015. League One Rovers started the sharper of the two sides, and through a comical error between Patrick van Aanholt and keeper CostelPantilimon, they could’ve been ahead inside the first 10 minutes. James Coppinger’s ball into the area looked to be causing no problems, with van Aanholt looking to clear away, however he sliced his clearance out, instead striking the post with the ball going behind for a Rovers corner early. It wouldn’t be long though before Rovers did take the lead, with an unlikely source at the heart of the game’s opening goal. Great football between Coppinger and Richie Wellens saw them open up space for Harry Forrester to loop a ball over the top of the Black Cats’ defence, and Cedric Evina was left unmarked at the back post. His half-volley was powered home past Pantilimon to give Rovers an early advantage over their top-flight opponents, and from there on in, they never really looked like giving the
game away, with the Rovers defence comfortably seeing off attacks from Sunderland’s main men going forward.
in the Rovers goal got the better of the former Watford man and got down well low to his left.
Steven Fletcher and Jermain Defoe both tried their best to bring the Black Cats level before the break, however Rovers’ defensive pairing of Andy Butler and Rob Jones stayed firm, with both centre backs denying the forwards.
Despite a brief period of pressure, Rovers would weather the storm and would go on to double their lead on the hour mark, with Evina’s cross blocked by Jack Rodwell, however the ball fell kindly for Harry Middleton.
After the break, Sunderland made a whole host of changes, and not long after Emanuele Giaccherini and Danny Graham linked up for what was the Black Cats best chance to get level.
His block from Rodwell’s clearance sat up kindly for Harry Forrester who duly obliged by slotting past Pantilimon to extend Rovers lead, which they would eventually see out comfortably, with Rovers’ fans left particularly impressed by the performance of the League One side against their Premier League opponents.
The Italian’s pass across the box to Graham saw the striker with plenty of space, however Thorsten Stuckmann
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? Rovers stuttered at the start of the season, winning just one of their opening 10 league games, with a change at the helm coming between September and October, with Paul Dickov being replaced by fellow Scot Darren Ferguson. Ferguson lost just five of his first 14 in charge of Rovers, with an impressive performance against another Premier League side in Stoke City in the FA Cup third round, losing 2-1 to the Potters at the Keepmoat. After this however, Rovers would embark on a 16-game winless run which would see them eventually relegated to League Two. Their visit to the bottom tier would be brief however, as Rovers returned at the first attempt, finishing third in 2017. Sunderland on the other hand would go on to finish 17th in the Premier League, likewise switching manager from Dick Advocaat to Sam Allardyce in October. They sealed Premier League safety with a 3-0 win over Everton in May, condemning local rivals Newcastle United to the drop instead. The following season would see them suffer relegation from the top flight themselves, finishing bottom of the league with just 6 wins and 6 draws, before repeating the feat last season in the Championship, picking up only seven wins, ensuring that they would be in the third tier for the first time since 1988.

THE
NUMBERS GAME ALTHOUGH NO. 8 WAS TRADITIONALLY WORN BY A FORWARD, WEARERS OF THIS SHIRT AT DONCASTER ROVERS SINCE 2002-03 HAVE BEEN A MIXED BAG OF MIDFIELDERS, STRIKERS AND IN ONE CASE A FULLBACK. WHEN SQUAD NUMBERS WERE HANDED OUT AT THE START OF 2002-03, GARETH OWEN (2002-03) SEEMED A LOGICAL CHOICE. THE FORMER WALES UNDER-21 INTERNATIONAL HAD BEEN AN INFLUENTIAL FIGURE THE PREVIOUS SEASON, ALTHOUGH THE ARRIVAL OF JOHN DOOLAN AND THE EMERGENCE OF RICKY RAVENHILL AND PAUL GREEN IN MIDFIELD MEANT HIS APPEARANCES WERE LIMITED. HE LEFT AT THE END OF THE SEASON TO JOIN WELSH LEAGUE CONNAH’S QUAY NOMADS. Succeeding him was a striker rather than a midfielder: GREGG BLUNDELL (2003-05) had arrived towards the end of 2002-03, although his impact was restricted by injury. However the pacey striker proved more than capable of making the step up to the Football League. An ideal foil for Leo Fortune-West and Chris Brown, Blundell scored 18 League goals as Rovers secured the Division Three title for 2003-04. He was less influential the following season, although he still contributed nine League goals and he moved on to Chester City. He trained to become a physiotherapist and now works in that role at Liverpool’s Academy. Arriving at Belle Vue at the start of the 2005-06 season was SEAN THORNTON (2005-07), an Irish-born midfielder previously with Sunderland. A mercurial character, Thornton performed well in Rovers’ run to the quarter-final of the League Cup in 2005 where they bowed out with a penalty shoot-out defeat against Arsenal. Thornton became a rather peripheral figure following the departure of the man who signed him, Dave Penney, and he moved in 2007 to Leyton Orient. When manager Sean O’Driscoll arrived at Rovers from AFC Bournemouth in September 2006 his first signing was a man who had played under him at the south coast club. BRIAN STOCK (2007-12) was already a highly-rated midfielder and he was to become one of Rovers’ outstanding performers of recent years. A player with the ability to control the tempo of the game as well as offering excellent dead-ball delivery, Stock formed, with Richie Wellens, the creative hub of O’Driscoll’s team. Stock’s corner was headed in by James Hayter to give Rovers victory over Leeds United at Wembley in May 2008. That success took Rovers back into the second tier for the first time in 50 years, and Stock played a full part in Rovers four seasons in the Championship. As well as making 216 appearances and contributing 23 goals, Stock won three full caps
for Wales while with Rovers. He moved on to Burnley in 2012, and remains active in football as the captain of National League side Havant & Waterlooville. The No. 8 passed to an experienced striker, BILLY PAYNTER (2012-14) formerly of Swindon Town and Leeds United. His eye for goal was crucial and he scored 13 times, making him top League scorer, as Rovers won the 2012-13 League One Championship in dramatic fashion. It was Paynter whose pass found James Coppinger to score the last gasp goal which beat Brentford and secured the title. With Rovers back in the Championship, Paynter found himself surplus to requirements and moved on to Carlisle United. Since 2014 the number 8 shirt has been worn by midfielders. ABDUL RAZAK (201415), RICHARD CHAPLOW (2015-16) and onloan Aston Villa man, RICARDO CALDER (2016-17). Another former Aston Villa player, NIALL MASON took over the No, 8 shirt for 2017-18, perhaps expecting to be deployed in midfield. In fact, he spent most of the season operating at right-back or wing-back. For 2018-19 the No, 8 lies firmly in the possession of a midfielder, BEN WHITEMAN, who joined Rovers permanently from Sheffield United in January 2018. JOHN COYLE

THE GAME HAS BEEN ARRANGED FOR TUESDAY OCTOBER 30 WITH A 7PM KICK OFF AT THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM. All young players look forward to these games and our youngsters are no different! Rochdale will provide a stern test. They have a very productive academy system, much like ourselves. It will certainly be two strong teams going head to head in what I expect to be a very entertaining game. I know how much the players and staff appreciate the support they get on these occasions and it will be great to see a lot of home support for youth team. We are excited about the talent in the group and I am sure you will enjoy watching them. The week after, Tuesday November 6, we play in the Premier League Cup at home to Sheffield United. This game will also be at the Keepmoat Stadium and provides an excellent challenge for our younger players. The performance against Everton was very positive and I look forward to this level of performance continuing.
Our first year apprentices are, this week, taking part in the NCS programme that is organised and delivered by our Foundation staff. This is an excellent programme that allows our youngsters to develop and grow skills and qualities in a different environment. It is our third year of doing this and the feedback and outcomes are always positive. I would like to thank Jan Budtz and all his staff for the opportunity they provide and I look forward to the positive feedback we will receive. Good luck to the gaffer, staff and players ahead of today’s game.

Hello everyone! Welcome to our game against Sunderland and what a fantastic away following we have here this evening. We recently had St John’s in delivering demonstrations on CPR training and I even got chance to take part (see my photo). Adwick Park Rangers U12’s had a group experience with us a couple of week’s ago and had a really good time. I have a great photo to share with you all, yes they beat me on penalties but the net is so big and I am quite small. Perhaps Marko and Ian can train me up to be more like them!
Enjoy the game! Donny Dog DONCASTERROVERSFC.CO.UK

DONCASTER ROVERS
COMMERCIAL GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME TO THE KEEPMOAT STADIUM AS WE HOST SUNDERLAND IN WHAT PROMISES TO BE ONE OF OUR BUSIEST MATCHDAYS THIS SEASON. The last time Rovers went head to head with giants Sunderland was back in 1988 in the then English Division 3. Fast forward nearly 30 years and the two meet again under the lights at the Keepmoat to battle for three points in Sky Bet League One. Both teams sit in the top six this season and with a big crowd expected to herd their way through the turnstiles, the stage is set for Grant McCann’s Rovers squad. We are delighted to welcome tonight’s match sponsors, Horse Bit Shop, the UK’s largest bitting specialists & comprehensive bit bank service. It’s a fantastic fixture to sponsor, and we wish them a very warm welcome, and hopefully three points too! We would also like to welcome today’s matchball sponsor, Jenkinson Electrical Engineering. Jenkinson’s

SAFETY Three points is not the only priority today. Making sure everyone goes home safe is the most important result. Over recent months we have been working closely with the police and the EFL to review security at the Keepmoat Stadium. Now we are asking you to do your bit. It is vital that everyone - players, staff and supporters - remains vigilant and reports any concerns to stewards or police. Attacks might be rare, and the chance of you being caught up in one unlikely, but the message is ACT #ActionCountersTerrorism. Rovers safety officer Sam Ramsden said:
AD-105x148-Football Foundation.indd 1
"We want everyone to enjoy today’s game at the Keepmoat Stadium but if you see anything that causes you concern, tell a steward or staff member. Please do not worry that you might be wasting our time. "The stewards are here to help keep us all safe so please be patient and cooperate with their instructions. When it comes to security it has to be a team effort and we are all players." Here's a quick reminder of what you can do to help keep yourself and others safe: • Arrive early, allowing more time for security checks • Minimise what you carry, fewer bag searches will speed up entry to the ground
• Be vigilant at all times and if you see anything suspicious, tell a steward right away • If you see anything that could pose an immediate threat to safety, call 999 • In an emergency, listen to the public address instructions and follow them • If told to evacuate, do so immediately, do not wait around to film events on your mobile • Move right away from the stadium as quickly as possible for your safety and to allow clear access for any emergency vehicles • Once you are safe, follow the local police force on Twitter for updates To find out more, visit gov.uk/ACT or @TerrorismPolice

SUPPORTER LIAISON OFFICER DEAN MEDCALF GOOD AFTERNOON LADIES AND GENTLEMEN AND A WARM WELCOME KEEPMOAT STADIUM TO THE VISITING FANS FROM SUNDERLAND.
If any of you have brought children to a match and you have been to visit our family stand, you will know that there is a range of different activities that the children can get involved in. Activities such as skillbased football drills and shooting practise drills with the foundation coaches, face painting and game consoles where the kids can play the new Fifa game, sometimes with a first-team player. These activities are all available for free in and around Donny Dogs Kennel. Many clubs have similar activities available in their family stands, but this year Rovers have offered these activates to the away fans as well. Since our first home game of the season against Wycombe Wanderers, the club has had members of the foundation coaching staff in the North Stand overseeing different activates
such as different football drills, a games console and face painting all available. We also added something a little different by offering a young fan the chance to paint a brick in the away end in their clubs colours to leave a lasting impression of their club in the Keepmoat Stadium. As well as this, families of the visiting club are able to purchase tickets for a specific block that will be reserved for families and young children, just like the option available for the home fans in the East Stand. This is something which I have received a lot of positive feedback from since its introduction. A lot of families from the visiting side have expressed how unique this is, how much the children have enjoyed being involved in these activities and how they have seen it as
something that would make them want to visit the Keepmoat again. From my personal experience, I have not seen any other club offer such activities to our fans; therefore it is great to see that what we offer may encourage other clubs to offer such activities in the near future. We hope that this new initiative will make peoples visit to the Keepmoat even more enjoyable and more memorable. As always I hope you all enjoy today’s game, if you have any questions then please contact me on the usual SLO social media accounts, @SLO_DRFC on twitter, DRFC SLO on Facebook or you can email me at dean.medcalf@ clubdoncaster.co.uk. VIKING SUPPORTERS CO-OPERATIVE Football is the national game, and football supporters are the lifeblood of the game. While many privately owned football clubs are well run, ours included, there are numerous examples over the years where this model of ownership has failed the supporters of that club, and has led to a number of clubs becoming either partly or fully owned by those supporters. The Minister Of Sport set up the Expert Working Group with the intention of looking at ways to improve engagement and dialogue between clubs and fans, and therefore to improve transparency and trust. The detailed recommendations from the EWG led to the government instructing the EFL and the Premier League to enter into structured dialogue with those supporters, and especially with the supporters trust at that club. As you may be aware the club hold two Meet The Owners events each year which meet the criteria set down by the EFL. On top of that the club have a Supporters Board which meets on a regular basis during the season to discuss a very broad range of topics. Suffice to say that DRFC have not only met the requirements but have exceeded them in both frequency and content, and that is something we can once again be proud of. Martin O'Hara

Students have started back at Club Doncaster Sports College and with it the Doncaster Rugby League Academy have kicked off the new season in the AoC League. The summer saw the appointment of ex-Dons player Mitch Vincent as head coach and the Academy has started to flourish with more students becoming involved by the week. The 2018/19 season started with two very tough games against Archbishop of Sentamu and Wyke sixth form college, both from the rugby league hotbed of Hull. The Dons Academy came out of both games with huge credit, winning one game and suffering a narrow loss in the other. Head coach Vincent said: “The lads performed really
well in both games and it’s great to have the Dons Academy buzzing. “I’m really enjoying helping the players develop and enjoy their rugby league.” Club Doncaster Sports College principal Adi Turnpenny said: “They represent Club Doncaster Sports College and Doncaster RLFC with immense pride. “The Dons Academy is great for our students to be part of alongside their studies and we are looking forward to seeing both the academy and the college continue to grow.” For more information about courses at Club Doncaster Sports College and the Dons Academy, visit the website: www.clubdoncastersportscollege.co.uk.
