DARREN MOORE Good afternoon and welcome back to the Keepmoat Stadium. I’d like to welcome the supporters, owners, players and staff of Burton Albion who have travelled up to today’s game.

The squad are in confident mood after recent victories
We are looking forward to the match, and head into it in confident mood on the back of a couple of good league wins over Bristol Rovers and Southend United. We were frustrated not to have the opportunity to build on that at Tranmere as conditions meant the game was called off, but that is part and parcel of football and we have to deal with that. In the league this season we have given ourselves a good opportunity, but we know nothing is won this early in the campaign. If we are going to go on and have the kind of season we want it will only come through hard work and a unified effort from everyone connected to the club - that is fans, players and staff right up to the owners. This weekend sees the club take part in our remembrance celebrations, as it is our closest home game to Remembrance Weekend. I’d like to thank the local branch of the British Legion who are down here today to help us pay tribute to those who gave so much protecting our freedoms. Please keep up your tremendous support as it's greatly appreciated. Enjoy the game.

The Southend win will go down as one of the most memorable matches I've witnessed
Although we were frustrated to lose out to Manchester United in the Leasing.com Trophy in midweek, it’s really pleasing to go into this game on the back of two impressive league performances and wins. The 7-1 win at Southend United last Tuesday will go down as one of the most memorable matches I’ve witnessed, and I’m sure the 233 Rovers fans who were there as well had a more enjoyable trip back north thanks to the result.
pitch was frustrating because everyone was looking forward to building on that momentum, but today provides that opportunity.
Losing the game at Tranmere last weekend due to a waterlogged
I look forward to seeing plenty of you back here on Tuesday night
We’ve had a busy few weeks at the Keepmoat Stadium with a number of improvements, including new TVs in all the concourses and supporter areas. These are bigger and better than the previous ones, and provide valuable commercial income as well as a better service.

ALFIE MAY When Alfie May signed for Rovers in January 2017, he arrived with a reputation of being a goal poacher from his days in non-league. Since then, he has added much more to his game, and feels he has become a more polished player in recent months after the appointment of Darren Moore as manager. “It’s been great working with the manager since he came in, I think he has made me a better player and has that trust and belief in everyone,” he says. “That can go a long way in football and he is keen to get the message across that when you get in the final third you can look to express yourself.
Moore’s personality in the dressing room and on the training ground is one which the Rovers squad have taken too seamlessly. May says having someone in charge who not only has plied his trade at the highest level, but also understands the club is crucial to success. “The club itself is massive and when you come and see the stadium it’s a real eye opener, it’s good to have someone with such a profile in charge of things,” he says.
“It’s a new position for myself and it means I’m touching the ball a lot more, I have felt already that I’ve progressed as a player under him.
“He knows the game so well and has played at the highest level, he was sitting fourth in the Championship with West Brom last season so he showed what he was capable of there.
“In front of goal this season I’m not afraid to shoot, and again that comes from the manager wanting us to be ruthless.”
“He’s handled the pressure of working at a big club there and he’s taken being appointed as the manager here in his stride.
09
F E AT U R E I N T E R V I E W
“He has said quite a lot how the pull of Club Doncaster was big for him and I think that is the same for plenty of players too.
10
“You can talk to Darren about anything and that is one of the biggest complements I can pay him, if there’s something on my chest I know I can approach him with it.” One player who departed prior to the season starting was John Marquis, who left to join fellow Sky Bet League One side Portsmouth. May feels as the dynamic of the team has changed without the former No.9, his own game has improved in terms of getting on the ball and making things happen. “John is a big character and was a big voice in the dressing room, he scored a lot of goals in the three seasons he was here and earned his move when it came along,” he says. “When you play with him you have to try and ignore certain situations but you know he could pop up at any point and win you the game. “I felt pressure when he was on the pitch to get the ball to him, maybe because of where I’d come from in my career. “When I arrived at the club I was a big fish at my old club and I think I had to come to terms with not being the main man. “I feel like my game has got a lot better since the summer and there is no worry of me being on a wrong end of a talking to from John.”
ALFIE MAY
F E AT U R E I N T E R V I E W
Now at the age of 26, May feels the time has come for him to take responsibility and act as a leader at the football club. He has taken things from several players he has played alongside over the past couple of seasons, and hopes to share those experiences with other younger players. “I’ve seen experienced players leave the club who I would go to for advice, and now I feel like I can be someone who the younger lads can come to,” says May. “I still speak to those more experienced lads now and I’ve taken bits from all of them to help me mature on and off the pitch. “Learning from people like James Coppinger, Andy Butler and Tommy Rowe has meant I’m more than capable of dealing with difficult situations throughout my career. “I’m older than the majority of the lads in the squad now, I’ve played a lot of games here now and want to pass advice on.
“There’s good humour about the group and that banter is important at any level, we save the fines for our Christmas party so the lads get their money back anyway.”
“Myself and Joe Wright are in charge of the in-house fines now and even if you do get some of the lads who don’t like it, it’s good to have that side of things in the dressing room.
May managed to get over one hurdle after netting his first league goal of the season in the 7-1 thrashing of Southend United in October. The hard work is continuing for him, as he looks to add more goals to his game and repay the belief shown in him. “Getting my first league goal of the season was playing on my mind a little bit but I felt confident going into that Southend game,” he adds. “I told the assistant Jamie Smith that I felt good about it and I was buzzing once the manager sent me on especially with how the game was going. “Some of the lads on the bench were encouraging me and I wanted that to be the night that I started a bit of a goal scoring run. “Goals win you games and as a striker you get recognised for putting the ball in the back of the net so I want to keep adding to that. “Personal goals have to come into your thinking throughout the campaign as well as helping the team, the lads will set themselves targets at the start of the season and I’m no different to that.”

KIERAN
JOHN
O'HARA
BRAYFORD
The Manchester United youth product has earnt his first season playing in League One after loans spells took him to non-league and League Two.
Brayford has returned to the club where he started his professional career at in 2006. Twoyears was the amount of time he spent at the Pirelli Stadium and, after making 77 appearances for the club, he moved on to Crewe Alexandra in 2008.
Nigel Clough recruited the 23-year-old to join the Brewers on a season-long loan providing competition for ex-Rovers stopper Stephen Bywater and young guns Callum Hawkins and Jack Livesey. O’Hara’s form for his club and performances for the Republic of Ireland U21s earned him a call-up to the Irish senior squad in March 2019 – making his debut off the bench in a 3-1 win over Bulgaria in September.
The defender and Burton manager Nigel Clough are no strangers to each other with the 53-yearold having worked with Brayford at all three clubs he has managed: Albion, Derby County and Sheffield United. This summer he signed a contract extension which will see him remain at the Brewers until at least June 2020.

JOE
SBARRA Originally the 20-year-old started his youth career at West Bromwich Albion but after his release he joined the Academy at Burton Albion. In 2017 he emerged into the first-team picture making sparse appearances over the last twoyears. Limited opportunities came his way at the turn of the year which saw him loaned out to National League side Solihull Moors who were competing for promotion to League Two.
LUCAS
AKINS Akins is a regular face for Burton after agreeing terms with the club in 2014, joining from Stevenage where he scored 13 times in 77 games. Over five-years he appeared over 200 times for the club – and is currently the player who has appeared the most for club in their history – with his goals playing a fundamental part in the clubs rise from League Two to the Championship. For the last two seasons, Akins has won supporters player of the year award.
IN OPPOSITION
REMI MATTHEWS
A product of Norwich City’s Academy, Matthews moved to Rovers in 2016 as Darren Ferguson recruited the goalkeeper. Prior to his move to the Keepmoat Stadium, the 25-year-old had two consecutive spells at Burton on loan from the Canaries. Out of those two spells at the Pirelli Stadium he only made two league appearances, with his debut coming in a 1-0 loss to Shrewsbury Town.
DARREN MOORE
The current Rovers boss finished his professional playing career at Burton in 2012 after a two-year spell at the club, racking-up 38 appearances in the side’s defence.
16
Seventeen years before hanging up his boots Moore signed for Rovers in 1995. He commanded the backline for twoyears through what was the beginning of a difficult era for the club. This summer after spells managing in the Premier League and Championship the 45-year-old returned to South Yorkshire to manage Rovers.
MARK DUFFY
The right-footed midfielder spent the 2013/14 season at the Keepmoat Stadium after leaving Scunthorpe United, but left the club one-year later after relegation from the Championship. A move to Birmingham followed but he struggled to get firstteam action so was sent out loan to Burton for the 2015/16 season after their promotion to League One. He quickly became a regular figure in that side. Last season Duffy achieved promotion to the Premier League with South Yorkshire neighbours
SHARED 5-A-SIDE Sheffield United, and this summer was loaned out to Championship club Stoke for the season.
PAT LALLY
Lally’s career took him from Millwall, York and Swansea before he was picked up by Rovers in 1978. After making 122 appearances for the club the midfielder moved on in 1982. Once his time at Rovers concluded he moved to Burton where he later finished his career. He then became education officer for the Professional Footballers’ Association.
STEWART MELL
Doncaster-born Mell spent his youth career at Hull City but moved to non-league side Appleby Frodingham for his first taste of men’s football. He moved back to his hometown in 1979, making his first Football League debut after he was recruited by Rovers. When his time concluded at the club in 1983 he spent a year at Halifax before a transfer to Burton where he spent twoyears of his career at. The now 62-year-old also represented England at semipro level. Throughout his footballing career, Mell served as a firefighter.

PAST RECORD PAST PASTRECORD RECORD
Meetings between Rovers and Burton Albion are traditionally tight affairs - with half of the competitive clashes finishing level. The 2002/03 Conference season brought the first games, with Rovers claiming a 2-1 success at Burton thank to Robert Gill and Paul Barnes in the first time the two sides had met. Barnes was again on the scoresheet in the return fixture at Belle Vue, sealing a 1-0 win. Nigel Clough, now in his second spell as Brewers manager, was in the starting line-up for Albion in both matches. It was more than a decade before the next meeting, when Harry Forrester, Nathan Tyson and Richie Wellens struck to seal a 3-0 success in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Of the five matches which have followed, four have finished all square - with only last season’s 1-0 defeat at the Pirelli Stadium enough to claim a victory. The return fixture at the Keepmoat Stadium was a dramatic affair. John Brayford had fired Albion ahead, only for half-time substitute Tyler Smith to make an instant impact. The forward, on loan from Sheffield United, levelled after 53 minutes then fired Rovers ahead with 15 minutes to go. That looked like being enough to seal the points, before Brayford struck again in stoppage time. Only once has Rovers hosting Albion finished level - but for the visitors it was probably the most memorable as the goalless draw on the final day of the 2015/16 season was enough to seal automatic promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.

IN THE HOT SEAT:
DONCASTER ROVERS MANAGERS FROM 1920
LAWRIE McMENEMY (1968-1971) With 68-year old Jackie Bestall back at the helm, Rovers knocked Notts. County out of the FA Cup and beat Aldershot and Grimsby in the League. That provided the perfect introduction for the new manager, taking his first steps on the League management ladder. Lawrie McMenemy was 32 years old and after a short playing career ended by injury, he had become manager of Bishop Auckland, leading them to the championship of the Northern League. For the past year he had coached at Sheffield Wednesday and a personal recommendation from the Wednesday boss, Alan Brown, helped McMenemy secure the Belle Vue job. Chairman Frank Wilson described the young Geordie as “a man who is conversant with the speed of modern football.” McMenemy took formal charge for the FA Cup game with Third Division Southport. Rovers won a thrilling game 2-1 but it took a while for his magic to work in the League. Four draws and a defeat followed, along with a brave but unavailing performance in the FA Cup against Liverpool at Anfield. McMenemy’s first League win, 2-0 at home to Southend, came in January 1969, part of a club record run of 20 unbeaten games. Highlights included a 7-0 victory over Aldershot and a 5-0 win over Brentford, but the real heroes were the defenders who conceded only seven goals in those 20 games. Rovers ended up Fourth Division Champions by two clear points. Perhaps a measure of McMenemy’s authority was that he managed to offload club legend Alick Jeffrey to Lincoln City in January 1969.
Back in Division Three for the1969-70 season, McMenemy kept faith with the players who had secured promotion. In retrospect this may have been a mistake because although Rovers started the season well, their lack of squad depth told as the season wore on. McMenemy sold full back Harold Wilcockson to Sheffield Wednesday and acquired Ian Branfoot and Archie Irvine in return. Both served the club well, but in the short term they featured in a dismal run as Rovers won only once in 16 games. They finished the season a respectable 11th, but there was a feeling of missed opportunities. McMenemy lost a key boardroom ally when Wilson was ousted as chairman and replaced by Ben Bailey. Wilson remained a board member until the end of the 197071 season when his resignation spelled the end for McMenemy. The season was a disaster for Rovers who failed to win until the 10th game of the season. A brief revival featured a 1-0 win at Barnsley, but Rovers then suffered an embarrassing FA Cup exit, at home to lowly Crewe Alexandra. In January 1971 McMenemy was told that if his team failed to beat Plymouth Argyle at home, he would be out of a job. Rovers only drew 0-0 but a spirited performance by the players persuaded the board to keep faith with the manager a while longer. By then things were possibly beyond redemption anyway and after Rovers finished 23rd McMenemy was duly fired. He was out of work for just a week before being snapped up by Grimsby Town, whom he led to the Fourth Division title in 1971-72. McMenemy went on manage Southampton to the FA Cup in 1976 and later managed Sunderland and worked with England boss Graham Taylor. Given a little more time, he might have achieved much more than he already had done with Rovers. John Coyle

THE ACADEMY
Rovers U18s exited the FA Youth Cup in the first round after they came up short 4-3 away at Mansfield Town. Just one change was made by Paul Stancliffe for the game with Josh Clemitson dropping to the bench in place of Elliott Walker who returned after recovering from tonsillitis. Rovers took the lead on the seventh minute with some swagger and Junior Smith running the show. He started by chesting the ball down in midfielder, rotating 180-degrees and storming on goal. At first glance the forward struggled to get his shot away so after the ball bobbled around in the box, it fell to him a second time and he certainly made his chance count. On the 15th minute a fabulous free-kick was taken by Nathan Dimou, with the ball travelling upfield, unlocking Jack Watson who was just off cue with his shot. Liam Ravenhill then conceded a foul on Kyle Tomlin – Shamar Lawson took the free-kick from 25-yards out and sent a rightfooted ball to the far post which Ben Bottomley commanded well to grasp it out of the air. Mansfield’s first goal almost came in some extraordinary fashion when Lawson thumped a shot on goal from 30-yards which hit the underside of the bar and came back into play – the follow-up header came from Jimmy Knowles, he was denied by Bottomley. A high-line from Mansfield forced Watson into a shot from 25-yards which narrowly flew by the right-hand corner of Maison Campbell’s goal. A throw-in from Lewis Cunningham almost lead to a Rovers second as Will McGowan got on the end of it from the 18-yard box and curled the ball just past the right-hand corner of the net. Just before the half-time whistle Mansfield scored an equaliser after Jimmy Knowles stretched the ball tight into Bottomley’s
right hand corner on the angle from just outside the box. The score was 1-1 at half-time despite Rovers controlling possession and having the most attempts on goal. Within the first few moments of Mansfield restarting for the second-half, Rovers won back possession and caused Mansfield some problems, with Smith striking just wide of Campbell’s goal. A corner routine fresh off the training ground almost paid dividends when Will McGowan found the head of Nathan Dimou who just couldn’t get the right direction on the ball. Brutally Mansfield took the lead as a ball from the left-hand side was met by Rio Molyneaux who stabbed it past Bottomley from close proximity. Rovers later had two identical opportunities when Walker crossed the ball from the righthand side. On first attempt it didn’t sit right for Smith on the receiving end, but five minutes later Smith brought the ball down well and provided an equally good finish. Mansfield soon retook the lead after a fine ball found Ben Bayliss in space down the right, he dragged the ball back into the box for Knowles to grab his brace. Knowles tried his luck for a hattrick but was forced to shoot into the side-netting after being pressured by Cunningham. The hosts soon had their fourth goal when Molyneaux curled the ball over Bottomley from 25-yards – leaving the keeper with little chance of stopping it. A mere consolation came Rovers’ way around the 90th minute mark as McGowan sliced the ball home. This led to unsavoury scenes which ended with Mansfield’s goalkeeper being shown a straight red card.

Belles forward Eva Madarang has been called up to the Philippines’ national team for the upcoming South East Asia (SEA) Games. November sees the start of the 30th staging of the SEA Games which this year is being held in the Philippines, with Madarang set to depart for a pre-tournament training camp at the end of October. The Games run from November 30 to December 11, and Madarang spoke of her pride in being called up to represent her country in a home tournament. “I’m so happy to be called up by my country, it’s such an honour to represent the Philippines, every time I go out to meet up with them it’s really exciting, and so I’m really looking forward to it,” she said. “I played in the last SEA Games which was in Malaysia, but with it being in the Philippines this year it makes it so much more special, it’s
such a big tournament over there, so this is going to be one of the biggest things over there which is huge for me. “It’s so exciting and I feel incredible, the SEA Games is like a miniOlympics so for us to host it is massive, there are going to be so many people that come to visit the country and hopefully they can see what we’re all about.” The Philippines are in Group A of the tournament as the host nation, playing against Myanmar and Malaysia in the opening stage, and Madarang says they will be looking to improve on the fourth place they picked up in Kuala Lumpur two years ago. “It’s an amazing opportunity to go out there, we know we’re going
to come up against some very good teams, but we can’t wait to get started, and hopefully we can pick up a medal on home soil, that would be so special,” she added. “We’re away as a group for a long time before the tournament starts so that will really be important for us, it’ll be a little nerve-wracking I’m sure, we’ve never had a home tournament before but I’m hopeful we’ll overcome that. “We’re sure it’ll be such a good environment for us to play in, people in the Philippines are actually coming out to watch us, we hope we’ll get great support which I’m sure we will, hopefully we can get a few wins and win gold, that would be so special.”

Good afternoon all and welcome back to the Keepmoat Stadium as we host Burton Albion. Sitting in mid table, Nigel Clough’s side have had a mixed start to the season, but seem to be in better form on the road, so will be fired up as they arrive in Doncaster today. Darren Moore’s lads will also be full of confidence following a string of impressive performances. The 7-1 win at Southend United a couple of weeks ago a particular highlight and what a cracking game that was to witness. Let’s hope we see more of that emphatic style today and hope for another three points on the board. We are delighted to welcome Dearneside Fabrications as our match sponsor. Dearneside Fabrications innovate and set the standard for architectural metalwork
in the UK. They work with our clients in a collaborative manner, making their visions a reality whilst helping them deliver exceptional projects. Established in 1994 by Paul Muldoon, the company has seen sustained growth in recent years. The company’s extensive manufacturing facilities and head office is still based in Sheffield with a satellite office in London. From its offices, they offer an experienced management team that help guide client’s projects from initial tender through to completion. We hope everyone in their party, and everyone who has joined us today in the Jibba Jabba Legends Club have a fantastic day with us in hospitality. If you would like to get involved with a match sponsorship, hospitality or even an official partnership with Doncaster Rovers and Club Doncaster, contact the commercial team on 01302 764665 / commercial@ clubdoncaster.co.uk.

SAFETY Three points is not the only priority today. Making sure everyone goes home safe is the most important result. Over recent months we have been working closely with the police and the EFL to review security at the Keepmoat Stadium. Now we are asking you to do your bit. It is vital that everyone - players, staff and supporters - remains vigilant and reports any concerns to stewards or police. Attacks might be rare, and the chance of you being caught up in one unlikely, but the message is ACT #ActionCountersTerrorism. Rovers safety officer Sam Ramsden said:
"We want everyone to enjoy today’s game at the Keepmoat Stadium but if you see anything that causes you concern, tell a steward or staff member. Please do not worry that you might be wasting our time. "The stewards are here to help keep us all safe so please be patient and cooperate with their instructions. When it comes to security it has to be a team effort and we are all players." Here's a quick reminder of what you can do to help keep yourself and others safe: • Arrive early, allowing more time for security checks • Minimise what you carry, fewer bag searches will speed up entry to the ground
• Be vigilant at all times and if you see anything suspicious, tell a steward right away • If you see anything that could pose an immediate threat to safety, call 999 • In an emergency, listen to the public address instructions and follow them • If told to evacuate, do so immediately, do not wait around to film events on your mobile • Move right away from the stadium as quickly as possible for your safety and to allow clear access for any emergency vehicles • Once you are safe, follow the local police force on Twitter for updates To find out more, visit gov.uk/ACT or @TerrorismPolice

SUPPORTERS CLUB
SUPPORTERS CLUB A big warm welcome to all the supporters for today’s game, particularly the Burton Albion fans who have made the trip up to the Keepmoat Stadium. I hope they enjoy their day out with us and enjoy experience, besides the result. The Brewers are managed by Nigel Clough and have always been a tough nut to crack, so we should be in for a good game. We had a fantastic victory over Bristol Rovers in our last home game, a great result closely followed by our highest away victory for 90 years at Southend. It made the journey for the 233 Rovers fans worthwhile - the journey back was a nightmare, with lots of road/ motorway closures, arriving home around 3am but everyone had a smile on their face still. Again this season we will be running coaches to all home and away games, the sheet with times and prices on are included in the programme but are subject to change. We have tried to keep the prices as low as we can but had to introduce a travel policy for under 16s who have to have a responsible adult travel with them. Fans who are 16-17-years-old need a consent form from their parents or guardians to travel. These can be downloaded from the Supporters Club website, on the bus or at the Supporters Club office based in the Club Doncaster Academy. As always we will run the home match bus from Retford, Harworth and Rossington Styrupp and Labour club, times are 1pm (6pm) 1.20pm (6.20pm) and 1.30pm (6.30pm). Times in brackets are night games, and there is no need to book. The next away game is away at AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup on Saturday November 9. Coaches league Retford 8.15am, Harworth 8.20am, Bawtry / Rossington Styrupp 8.30am, Punches 8.35am, Infirmary 8.45am and Keepmoat Car Park 2 9am. £26 adult members, £24 oaps and under 18s, please add £2 for non-members. Followed by Wycombe Wanderers on
Saturday November 23, leaving Retford 9.30am, Harworth 9.35am, Bawtry & Rossington 9.45am, Punches 9.50am, Infirmary 10am, Waterdale 10.05am, and Keepmoat Stadium 10.15am. Cost £24 adult, £22 oapss and under 18s. For fans’ safety we will be picking up on the inner circle adjacent to Car Park 2 this season, so you can leave your car there. You can join the Supporters Club on the bus and get discount straight away, or join online or at Supporters shop located in the Club Doncaster Academy. The price is £7 adult and £5 concessions. Call Paul on 07961727769 or Len on 01302 817347 for more details and bookings. The North Branch also run coaches to most away games, from The Adwick, Carcroft, A19 corridor area. If you wish to travel with them call 07780316923. They are a great set of lads and lasses, and do a lot of raffles to support local charities. As in previous years the Supporters Club are having weekend trips away, the North Branch will be stopping in Blackpool for the Accrington game, and the Retford Branch will also be stopping in Blackpool for the last game of the season at Bloomfield Road. Call Paul on 07961727769 if interested. Both trips will be £150, Inc. two nights bed, breakfast and evening meal. Not many places left. Christmas draw tickets will be on sale very soon, if anybody wants to help sell them for us get in touch with Paul, also if you have any donations of prizes they would be most welcome. Condolences go the family of John Ward, who was a regular on the Retford Supporters coach, who passed away last week, John travelled with nephew Lewis to most away games, and our thoughts go out to all the family. Enjoy the game. And get behind the team. Rovers Till We Die Paul Mayfield
VIKING SUPPORTERS CO-OPERATIVE Football is the national game, and football supporters are the lifeblood of the game. While many privately owned football clubs are well run, ours included, there are numerous examples over the years where this model of ownership has failed the supporters of that club, and has led to a number of clubs becoming either partly or fully owned by those supporters. The Minister Of Sport set up the Expert Working Group with the intention of looking at ways to improve engagement and dialogue between clubs and fans, and therefore to improve transparency and trust. The detailed recommendations from the EWG led to the government instructing the EFL and the Premier League to enter into structured dialogue with those supporters, and especially with the supporters trust at that club. As you may be aware the club hold two Meet The Owners events each year which meet the criteria set down by the EFL. On top of that the club have a Supporters Board which meets on a regular basis during the season to discuss a very broad range of topics. Suffice to say that DRFC have not only met the requirements but have exceeded them in both frequency and content, and that is something we can once again be proud of. Martin O'Hara

FOUNDATION UPD
40 Club Doncaster Foundation will relaunch their Premier League Kicks programme this month, with the official activation day taking place at today’s match. The event will see participants take part in a unique range of activities as part of the Rovers matchday experience before the game. Premier League Kicks is one of the Premier League’s flagship community programmes. It started in 2006 and has a long history of using the power of football and the value of sports participation to help young people in some of the most high-need areas in the country. By engaging young people in constructive activities, including a wide variety of sports, coaching, music, educational and personal development sessions, communities up and down the country have been transformed with impressive football and sports participation rates and the authorities reporting significant reductions in anti-social behaviour in the areas in which it is delivered. It has been running in Doncaster since 2012, engaging young people in free weekly constructive activities, including a wide variety of sports, coaching, dance, encouraging educational and personal development and offering the opportunity to compete with other clubs up and down the country.
Areas such as Thorne, Balby, Dearne, Rossington and Adwick has seen increased levels of participation across Kicks sessions. Alongside their weekly Kicks sessions, participants are also given the opportunity to represent Doncaster Rovers at Kicks tournaments, including the annual Premier League Kicks Cup. The aim of the Premier League Kicks sessions is to: • Increase playing, coaching and officiating opportunities in football and a range of sports (818yrs). • Enhance physical and mental wellbeing, including self-esteem, ambition and social skills. • Strengthen communities with a culture of volunteering, social action and positive role models – supporting education, training and employment pathways (focusing on 16-25yrs). • Work in partnership with young people, the police and other stakeholders to support the younger generation with the societal challenges they face (eg youth violence) and to improve community safety. • Inspire young people to develop positive, supportive relationships with one another and the authorities. • Promote integration and champion equality, diversity and inclusion. For more information on the relaunch event and Kicks in general, please call 01302 764663 or email mark. cooper@clubdoncasterfoundation.co.uk

Two tournaments took place on a wet and windy day besides the Keepmoat Stadium, one for the boys and one for the girls. A total of 52 teams took part. West Road Primary School, from Thorne, won the girls tournament in thrilling fashion, overcoming Kirk Sandall Juniors 4-3 in the final, whilst Shaw Wood Academy, from Armthorpe, saw off Auckley School 2-0 to claim the trophy.
professional footballers, even taking part in a kick around with the children.
The children were delighted to be visited by Rovers midfielder James Coppinger and Doncaster Rovers Belles new signing Eva Madarang. The pair posed for photos and answered questions on being
As a Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) ambassador for 2019/20, Coppinger has already been heavily involved in Foundation activity, showing his support of Rovers’ official charitable arm.
Madarang, who joined the Belles in September and is currently on international duty for the Philippines, has expressed a desire to get involved in the community of Doncaster more as the season progresses. Sport development officer for the Foundation, Kelly JacksonPowell, said: “The entire event was a huge success. The amount of positive feedback we have received from parents and teachers is testament to the staff for putting on a great tournament. “West Road have worked really hard with one of our coaches, Sean, and I know how happy he will be to hear that girls won the tournament."
CLUB DONCASTER AMBASSADORS
BACKGROUND
The Club Doncaster Ambassador programme was launched in August 2016. The role has changed over the past few years and has had varied degrees of success.
42
WHAT IS AN AMBASSADOR?
The scheme is about connecting with your local area. Your local area being where you live, where you socialise and maybe even place of work. An ambassador is a volunteer, approved by the club and tasked to simply distribute promotional materials from the club on a monthly basis. The ambition is to have at least one ambassador representing each recognised Doncaster and District village. We know our supporters base is vast so anywhere from Goole to Retford, Tickhill to Moorends, Thorne to Edlington.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED? AND WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO? HOW DO I GET STARTED? Please express your interest by one of the following options:
Contacting the lead ambassador Lee Rourke via supporterservices@clubdoncaster.co.uk, the Club Doncaster Box Office or speaking the the club SLOs. You will then be given more information on the role and asked to sign a disclaimer protecting you and the club.
COMMUNICATION
We meet as a group once per quarter, which is attended by key operational stakeholders within Club Doncaster, including Commercial, Marketing and Ticketing. You also receive the opportunity to attend other forums on a case by case basis such as Fans Forums, Supporters Boards and Meet the Owners.
YOUR REWARD
A free home ticket to all Rovers league games during the season (subject to your ongoing commitment to the scheme and providing regular proof of distribution.
