El Hadi Jazairy Deodoro, Rio de Janeiro Campus 2013
Deodoro is currently divided into a series of isolated pieces, cut up by a network of highways, railways, canals and BRT routes. This proposal blurs the boundaries between these fragmented urbanism to yield a single walkable, cohesive network. The strategy proposes an improved connectivity of infrastructural networks, and then allows the system to grow together. A central elevated park above the existing railway network acts as a central quad for the surrounding blocks and links the resulting urbanism together, connecting rooftop gardens and providing multiple layers for pedestrian movement.
Issue This district is divided by the several strong boundaries: canal, elevated high way, railway, BRT line. The fragile connection threat the security and the development of this district.

Tanger Med is the largest port on the Mediterranean and went into service in 2007. The port is located 14 km from Spain. It can attract shipping traffic between east and west, passing through the Strait of Gibraltar. Based on the Tanger Med, Tangier City attracted many investors and affect the rapid growth of global trade. Tangier city is transforming to a great cultural and commercial gateway between Africa and Europe. This research will analyse the relationship between the port city and the north coast of Morocco, the Mediterranean area, even the world.

Vargens is located 40-kilometer far from downtown Rio. It occupies an area of 51.4 km2, almost the same size as Manhattan. Vargens has 10.9 km2 of wetland, but it has become the next developing center because of the 2016 Olympic Games. The Belt Because of the fragile water condition of the site, urbanization is limited outside the canal system and leaves the center wetland undeveloped. This proposal “The BELTS� tries to provide a multilayer belt to limit the further development for the sake of wetland preservation. Rather than having a green belt, the BELTS brings high density urban development, two kinds of recreational belts, transit line, bike route and the canal together to provide a vibrate area for Vargens.

Research The BRT is becoming the essential transportation method in Rio de Janeiro. Much of the route transverses what is now relatively low density residential and agricultural landscapes. Because of the incoming Olympic games, the BRT will act as a significant role in people’s daily life.

This district spans along the transit line, north of the Green Heart, and aims to achieve a walkable urban neighborhood with a mix of residential, commercial and institutional uses. The urban grid registers the different belts running across the transit line, and adopts different configurations of public space and building typologies to participate on their different nature. From South to North, the proposal adapts to respond to different adjacencies: it hints on potential relationships with the Green Heart, and merges with the existing fabric in its way to the mountains.

Minneapolis will have a 15% growth in age group 24-35 known as “Echo boomers”. This project focuses on several new communities and office groups, mainly targeting the “Echo boomers”, to provide housing units and job opportunities to the Minneapolis downtown East area. Development would begin from our central public space, and then we would spread the energy to the continuous develop areas. Development would mainly be residential and office to fit into our market survey and positioning. Our branding strategy would be to propose a new urban living lifestyle for these young men to live in our old district site. The new lifestyle would celebrate several issues (Accessibility by public transportation, interaction, diversity, affordability, entertainment, sustainability) which we assume that this young generation values the most. Kehui Shi Xixi wetland, Hangzhou,China Museum 2010
The site is located in Xixi wetland park, Hangzhou. The building typology is the traditional courtyard-residential building. The site is surrounded by water. In the context of Low- Carbon this project aims to design an ecology museum which is not only exhibiting low-carbon knowledge but also itself should be designed and built in ecological way. On the wetland, the ponds are scattered all over like stars in the sky. Similarly, the residential houses on the bank are isolated. Several houses are gathered to enclose a courtyard. In response to the texture, the pavilions are separated to several units . Each one is a variant of the traditional house with sloping roof.

Use single slope roof to cover the rectangle plane (20mX12m) . The angle of the roof ranges from 0째 to 35째. Take one sample to test at the interval of five degree. The angle above 35째 will cause the waste of space. Build 8X36 samples based on two variables slope and orientations. Calculate each sample by software Ecotect for the cumulative amount of radiation in summer . Then, create the curve by the outcome and then make the curved surface.

The project is to transform the discarded factory to a Information centre providing a reading and a communication space for the nearby college students and residents. The rebuilding can also refresh the out-of 窶電ate factory building.
Concept Remain the previous structure and add floor slabs to rich the inside space. This proposal utilizes linear wall and stagger floor to divide space in three dimension. Organize the space by the walkway and use stagger floor to create special experience.

Yinan Jiang Beijing,China Residential design 2011
The site is located in which was a site of the Jin Dynasty. It was still a palace park in the Qing Dynasty. We cannot ignore the history of this site. There are two temples in this site as cultural legacy which cannot be moved. In order to recall people’s memory, the project mimicking some methods to create the traditional garden. The dwelling buildings enclose three courtyards. Transform the shape of the water system in the site ensuring every courtyard has water view. The deck links the three courtyards leading residents to their home or the landscape directly. Every courtyard has its own view . However, with the semi- besieged courtyard, residents can also appreciate other courtyard’s scenery.

Being exposed to such a diverse and collaborative atmosphere while working at Yifeng Chen Studio of CAG, advanced my understanding of the discipline of architecture beyond my previous architectural experience. In the summer of 2011, I worked as part of the healthcare design team for the Binzhou Hospital project. Tasks included field survey reports, presentation drawings and digital modeling. That experience enhanced my drawing skills, as well as the ability of coorperation with different departments.

PUBLICATION This is the student publication for Campus Rio studio. Instructed by Professor El Hadi, the whole class completed the book together. The book included all eleven proposals on the site of Deodoro.

COMPETITION The two drawings are for the Rio de Janeiro CityVision Competition which is the fifth international ideas competition. The topic for this year is Sick & Wonder. Instructed by El Hadi and Rania Ghosn, our team finished the drawings together, including Yu-Hsiang Lin , Jia Weng and me.
The Belly of A Mountain proposes a vision that ties the topography of Rio and the expansions of its urban infrastructures by organizing the city around a series of excavated mountain bellies. Rather than sacrificing the mountain to urbanization or preserving nature in the city, the project considers the mountain system as a potential internal volume that can accommodate the infrastructure and civic cores of the city.
