APPLE WATCH 3 – THE SMARTWATCH KILLER With the arrival of smartphones, we are witnessing a revolution. Wearable gadgets are being introduced by major companies like Apple and Google. With the arrival of wearable gadgets, several mobile app development companies across the world have started developing custom apps for wearable gadgets, because the default apps missed some useful features.

Apple Watch is a wearable gadget which was introduced by Apple.Inc in 2015 with the goal of enhancing the features of an iPhone. Of course, the Apple Watch can't do everything your iPhone does; but it can do some cool jobs such as managing health and fitness with apps, tracking your activity and so on. Apple Watch series 0 was the first member of Apple's smartwatch family and Series 1 & 2 were introduced in September 2016. The latest version of the watch Apple Watch, Series 3 just released in September 2017.

Apple Watch Series 0 – Released in September 2015 This was the first version to the smartwatch family from Apple. Series zero was discontinued in September 2016 with the arrival of Apple Watch Series 1 & 2. The Series 0 had an aluminium metal case. It ran on Apple's own WatchOS 3 and offered up to 18hrs of battery life. The Series 0 also had the OLED Retina Show and IP7 Water Resistant + splash-proof feature. However, the watch ran on a single core processor and lacked a GPS antenna. Apple Watch Series 1 & 2 – Released in September 2016 Apple Watch Series1 & 2 were an upgrade to their previous version, i.e. Series 0. Apple used a dual-core processor in their Series1 watches. Apple Watch 1 was released with Apple's own WatchOS 3 and later upgraded with the latest WatchOS4. Series 1 also supports the IP7 waterresistant splash-proof feature. However, Apple didn't offer GPS antenna in it Apple discontinued Series2 Watches and replaced with an upgraded version, Apple Watch Series 3. Series 2 had a built- in GPS antenna, which lacked in previous versions. A report from Canalys says Apple Watch sales exceeded over $2.6 billion in the fourth quarter and estimated 80% total revenue of the smartwatch market. Canalys also estimates Apple sold 11.9 million units of Apple watch in 2016. The huge success of Apple Watches in the market


has led many iOS application development companies to develop custom apps for Apple Watches. One of the major drawbacks of the predecessor was, it lacked a cellular network connectivity.

It doesn't support an external SD card; but it has an inbuilt storage of 16 GB. Battery and Other Features Battery life is one of the competitive factors that users look for. . Apple Watch 3 offers up to 18 hrs standby time for the new Series 3. It has a Non-removable Li-Ion 273 mAh battery. The


watch also has some additional features such as different sensors, accelerometer, gyro, heart rate, and barometer, supports messaging, music player and a photo viewer to enjoy your favourite media on it. The watch is available in two colours, Space Black and Silver. Apple has enhanced Siri with Series 3 for better user interaction.
