Chairman’s Message Welcome to Cork Craft Month 2015 It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Cork Craft Month on behalf of the board and members of Cork Craft and Design. Now in its sixth year our growing craft festival spans both the city and county with an abundance of talented craftspeople using their ingenuity and skills to produce exquisite craft products all across the county of Cork. We invite you to join with us in celebrating the diversity of craft available to view, buy and experience in Cork. Cork Craft Month is not just a celebration of craft and its people, it’s also a vehicle to help ensure that we continue to preserve, encourage and nurture the special skills of the people working in the craft sector in Ireland today. Core events 2015 Cork Craft & Design is a voluntary organisation that brings together craft makers from many discipline’s based all over Cork city and county. This is the sixth year that we have programmed an exciting month of craft events to provide you with great opportunities to see, touch and purchase some the very best craft being produced in Ireland today. The jewel in the crown of Cork Craft Month, this showcase exhibition promotes the talents of both established and emerging makers. The 2015 ‘TIME’ exhibition focuses on the time it takes each artist to learn and to realize their work. Everything takes time and effort, whether throwing a bowl or learning to sew.​Without time and effort technique wouldn’t exist. How that time and effort combines and how it is realised, is peculiar to each individual. Curated by Fergal O’Leary Established during Cork Craft Month 2013 this exhibition and retail space is a ‘must see’ during Cork Craft Month. Bringing together a diverse rotating collection of Cork Craft & Designs members work , why not pop in and meet and talk to the makers working there about their products and inspirations. A specially curated selection of local craft makers work will be on display in the modern and spacious setting of the Cork Civic Offices. The exhibition curated by Christine Byrne will feature an eclectic mix of crafts produced in Cork including furniture, textiles and exquisite sculptural work. An extra special ‘pop up’ craft event featuring an eclectic selection of work by Cork Craft & Designs members. A haven of handmade items for the home, this event will include furniture, textiles, ceramics, woodturning and framed pieces to suit all budgets and tastes. This is your ideal opportunity to pick up a locally made item to enhance your home or an extra special gift for someone else’s home. A must for the fashionista! The third annual ‘West Cork Creates’ exhibition is set to become a firm favourite with Cork Craft Month visitors. Entitled ‘Together’ the focus for this year’s exhibition is innovation and creativity in design and will demonstrate through working together something new can be created which is greater than the sum of its parts. Craftspeople have formed collaborative partnerships with a designer/photographer/ or artists to conceive of and create truly innovative work, bringing together a wide variety of skills and expertise. SUMMER ART & CRAFTS WORKSHOPS FOR KIDS Ballinacurra, Kinsale, Co. Cork. (Arts and Crafts for children aged 5-12 ) August 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th Daily :10.00 4.00pm. Four fun packed creative days of childrens’ arts and crafts workshops (Wednesday off) There are two sessions per day:10.00-12.30 noon and 1.30-4.00pm. You can choose to send your children to individual days, or for 4 full days. Those staying the full day should bring a packed lunch. The camps are designed with fun and art education in mind and include the widest range of activities from pottery to tie dye, theatre building to paper marbling. Clare’s subject matter is quite diverse and she works on different series - Birds, Garden Sculpture, Figurative Wall pieces, and wheel thrown porcelain. Each piece is individual, and she captures the essence and movement of the subject. In Sept 2014, her large garden sculpture entitled “Bottle Brush” was shown in the National Botanic Gardens annual “Sculpture In Context” exhibition and received a major award.
