Dorset County Museum—Wessex Museums Partnership National Portfolio Organisation Monday 14th May 2018—9.15am (prompt)—Victorian Hall The Wessex Museums Partnership is a thriving consortium of the four principal museums across Dorset and Wiltshire that tell the stories of Wessex from prehistory to now, namely, Poole Museum, Dorset County Museum, The Salisbury Museum and Wiltshire Museum. It is an exciting moment for the Wessex Museums Partnership as from April 2018 we will be one of the Arts Council England’s new National Portfolio Organisations. As such we have an ambitious programme to deliver over the next four years. All staff and volunteers are invited to join the Director for a presentation by Kristina Broughton, Partnership Manager, to hear about what it means to be a National Portfolio Organisation, details of the partnership’s programme and what it all means for DCM.

Tomorrow’s Museum for Dorset Since the HLF announcement last year, an awful lot of activity has taken place to get our ‘Delivery Phase’ off to the best possible start. Fundraising remains key to our success and thanks to grants from Trusts and Foundations as well as DNHAS members, we have made significant progress towards our goal. Great progress has made been on further design development to RIBA Stage 4, resolving questions regarding the remaining legal property issues, the procurement of goods and services to HLF guidelines and the discharge the final planning conditions to enable construction to begin. It is hoped that site works will commence in September.

Awesome! / Absolutely brilliant! / Well done DCM for getting Dippy! Visitor Quote of the Month:
George Wickham It is with considerable sadness that we record the death of George Wickham on 6th March. George joined the Photographic Team in 2003 bringing his exceptional talent to all areas of the Museum. His attention to detail and desire to do his very best for anyone requiring his photographic expertise was extraordinary. George produced many of the photographs used for the Museum’s displays and was always willing to help across all the Collections. He had taken on the mammoth task of digitising the 3.500 glass slides and negatives in the Collection. Extremely fragile and often crazed or damaged, George was determined that they should be restored and repaired.
Don’t Forget—The Posh Partridge—10% off We are delighted to let you know that all volunteers at Dorset County Museum are eligible for 10% off their lunch at the Posh Partridge—29 High East Street, Dorchester. This offer is available during the Dippy on Tour Exhibition. Please show your DCM ID card/badge at the till to obtain the discount which applies to the volunteer only. The Posh Partridge is a family run café offering home-cooked breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea using high quality local produce.
George will also be remembered for his great sense of humour, often delivered in brilliant, pity, dry one-liners!
