BÜCHEREI : cultural dialogues within a center for books
program theodor-heuss bücherei / bibliothek expansion since the fall of it’s wall, berlin has been a cultural hub in central europe; thoroughly attracting a strong attention in contemporary architecture. this comprehensive work clarifies a definition of urban design, through cohesive design research and construction documentation. this schöneberg library is a response to the culture, time, and place of a young city in flux. the formal conceptions of this urban strategy were developed in part as a series of scaled site models, and the architecture derived from the needs for a definitive stance on necessary library functions. the offset glass facadal-panels reflect the surroundings as if they were moving mirrors, and a twisting stairway core guides the occupants up and down the bibliothek’s levels.

PALMYRA : designing through the ruins of the past
program istanbul archaeological museum this project responds to the height of taksim square as the political, economic, and social heart of istanbul, forming in resonance on the mouth of the bosphorus. this sequence of the city is comprised wholly of the influences of culture, density, history, topography, and water. these aspects form the life and story of all those that experience such a city stuck in time. the sequence of the city is encompassed in one last gesture that completes the pathway from taksim square to the sea. in reflection of the life of the city of istanbul, the architecture that results is representative of the history of the city and the middle east in its entirety. as a museum of archaeological history, this project houses massive relics in a disparate state, saving them, restoring them, and showcasing them to the world. the resultant architecture is one fully intertwined with the history of istanbul at the center of europe and asia.

HYBRID SCALES : an investigation into super-tall living
program super-tall residential and hotel towers aiming to create a vibrant urban center that reinvigorates the government service center and its neighborhood, this proposal introduces circulation paths through the site and activates its perimeter and center with publicoriented programs. these strategies across scales transform the complex into a verdant center enriched by many activities. the super-tall hotel tower becomes a dynamic representation of scale at the level of the city, and that of the occupant. the long faces of the tower were subdivided into a unit grid, which was then extruded based on formulas that attributed green balcony space and indoor space accordingly. every unit was aggregated successively, so that each resident is offered a unique experience in the boston skyline.

TREE HOUSE : the connective tissue of a “new kowloon”
program high-rise tower a unique mix of programs - infrastructure, retail, office, and hotel - calls for a tower of hybrid uses. by layering the program together, the tree house creates an urban space that takes advantage of the multi-uses such that the sum of all their parts have a greater urban impact than their individual wholes. levering the infrastructure and green connection from the immediate site allows the design to pull these concepts up through the building. by challenging the office market in hong kong with flexible and tech-friendly floor plater, the tree house offers a center for work unlike what is available anywhere else in the city. by creating a hybrid space in the podium and tower, this design works to become an iconic destination for “new kowloon”.

VERTICAL TERRITORIES URBAN DESIRES : an opportunistic catalog of metropolitan architecture
program mixed-use hyper dense tower typology our lives, within the context of human density, frame a purpose to which the modern metropolis must adapt to and initiate with. it is only through an embrace and amplification of human congestion, density, and civility that architecture can maintain its relevance with people under the conditions of verticality. through a utilization of human, scalar relationships and a mediation of proportions, there emerges an opportunity for the reconfiguration of contemporary urban life. such an urban condition is then the framework for the way in which a new paradigm for architecture—dense, vertical, and utterly human—should perform in a way that celebrates its own congestion; the implementation of a true metropolitan vernacular.

ONE BANGKOK : a new district in the center of bangkok
program mixed-use development - primary retail one bangkok retail podium aims to capture the attention of users with a variety of form and experiences, encouraging them to explore and meander through the site. the result is a human-scaled and natural experience, with a lively and energetic atmosphere that focuses on around-the-clock activities. the design also offers a clear meditation between the retail and tower programs, which were approached with a careful attention to forms and material. the retail strives to foster a vibrant atmosphere with different clusters of activity & seeks to engage users, providing them with a sense of discovery. the office towers are a crucial component of the site. their positioning offers exceptional views while anchoring the development.

GROUNDSWELL : exploring the future of play
program responsive play-scape installation outlets for meaningful and active play for children and adults are at an all time low. we believe in and design play-scapes that cultivate challenging and creative play. meaningful play is not just an issue of child development and physical fitness, but also of promoting health and personal growth for all ages and abilities. our team developed a vision to reactivate a portion of the charles river park in watertown with groundswell, a series of interventions including an inventive play-scape that promotes adventurous, inter generational, and accessible play. in conjunction with site visioning, we generated iterations of a full-scale prototype to test how the play structure could be adapted and replicated at other sites.

PHOTOGRAPHY selected photography: study abroad 2014
information as part of a competitive entry study abroad sequence, I traveled during my senior year to seven different countries and nineteen cities across central and western europe. with my digital camera, I documented my experiences through experiential photography and a desire to capture the those moments in my life. the following photographs and images are representative of my experiences abroad in berlin, as well as my travels throughout europe.
using my digital camera
as a tool, these photos are a sample of my design philosophy; crafting composition through aperture, and understanding the spirit of each individual subject. the following photographs are a body of work that is a true depiction to where I have been, what I have seen, and the experiences I have had.
