Called the "Yo-Yo Ma of the harp," Bridget Kibbey explodes the instrument's capabilities via innovative programming and touring projects. From exploring the intricacies of baroque ornamentation to the lush virtuosity of the French Belle Époque to the rhythmic migration found in Brazil and Colombia, Bridget re-energizes an ancient instrument as soloist and alongside today's top performing artists. She is a recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Classical Recording Foundation's Young Artist Award, a Salon de Virtuosi SONY Recording Grant, a winner of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society CMS II, Concert Artist Guild's International Competition, Astral Artist Auditions, and Premiere Prix at the Journées de les Harpes Competition in Arles, France. Bridget was recently named "Best in Studio 2018" by WQXR for her live performance of her own adaptation of J.S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue live on the air. She was also awarded a Toulmin Fellowship for Women Leaders in Dance. She is in residence at NYU's Center for Ballet and the Arts throughout the 2018/19 season, working with choreographers Lauren Lovette, Loni Landon, and Lar Lubovitch Dance Company's Kate Skarpetowska. This season she tours works of J.S. Bach, Telemann, Debussy, Ravel, Caplet, and De Falla in Boston's Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum, NYC's Kaufman Center, Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, and the Schubert Club in Minneapolis. Upcoming appearances include an American/Canadian tour with the Dover Quartet, Chalaca Music (Samuel Torres, Benito Meza, and Kibbey), and in duo with Avi Avital. She launches a world-premiere harp concerto consortium, with a new work by Brazilianborn composer João Luiz Rezende, performing with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, The Metropolis Ensemble, Atlantic Classical Orchestra, and the San Jose Chamber Orchestra. Ms. Kibbey's solo performances have been broadcast on NPR's Performance Today, on New York's WQXR, WNYC's Soundcheck, WETA’s Front Row Washington, WRTI’s Crossover, and A&E's Breakfast with the Arts. She has toured and recorded with Dawn Upshaw and Placido Domingo for SONY Records and Deutsche Grammaphon; and, her own solo debut album, Love is Come Again, was named one of the Top Ten Releases by Time Out New York. Bridget is featured annually with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Knights Chamber Orchestra, and Camerata Pacifica. She has appeared as featured soloist and chamber artist at the Bravo!Vail, Santa Fe, Spoleto, Chamber Music Northwest, Bridgehampton, Aspen, Bay Chamber, Pelotas, Savannah Music Festival, Music@Menlo Festivals, among others. Bridget maintains harp studios at Bard Conservatory and New York University.
