The only artist to have won two Naumburg Awards, internationally acclaimed soprano Lucy Shelton has premiered over 100 works, many written expressly for her. She has worked closely with eminent composers including Elliott Carter, Charles Wuorinen, David Del Tredici, Milton Babbitt, Shulamit Ran, Joseph Schwantner, Oliver Knussen, Kaija Saariaho, Gyรถrgy Kurtรกg and Pierre Boulez. Performance highlights include Boulez's Le Visage Nuptial under the composer's direction in the US and Europe; Kurtรกg's The Sayings of Peter Bornemisza in London, Vienna, and Berlin with Andrรกs Schiff; works of Saariaho and Berio with Ensemble InterContemporain and staged performances of Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire with eighth blackbird and DACAMERA Houston. Her supreme musicality has been captured on over 50 recordings, and she has participated in major summer festivals including Aspen, Tanglewood, Santa Fe, Ojai, Yellow Barn, BBC Proms, Aldeburgh, Kuhmo and Salzburg. Ms. Shelton's primary mentor was the legendary American mezzo-soprano Jan de Gaetani. In the 2020/21 season Shelton will make her opera debut in the premiere of Kaija Saariaho's Innocence with productions in Aix-en-Provence, Amsterdam, Helsinki and London.
