January 2018, as Indisha Fine Arts, Valasaravakkam was preparing for ‘Nilam Pesinal’, a Bharatanatyam dance production delving into human impact on environment, its directors Nidheesh Kumar and Indu Mohan wanted to add an additional layer to the effort. And, thus was born the campaign, Plastic Free Chennai, which seeks to replace plastic bags with newspaper bags. This is how the campaign works. The team reaches out to various organisations and individuals and shares a tutorial video that provides a step-by-step instruction on how to to make newspaper bags. The team then collects these bags and

A s part of World Environment Day Celebration -2018, on the theme “Beat the Plastic Pollution”, one day beach cleaning programme at Palavakkam beach in Chennai was held on 22nd May on the motto of “Cleanliness is Service”. The programme was organized by Department of Environment. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, Forest Department, Revenue Department, Fishermen Association, Non Governmental Organizations, Self help groups, School students from National Green Corps (NGC) movement and M/s Ramkey of Chennai, have participated in the beach cleaning programme. The Pamphlet, Handbills, Gloves, T-Shirts, Caps, cleaning materials such as brooms, dust bin etc. have been provided to all the participants. The participants carried out the cleaning exercise for 1 to 2 Kms distance in Palavakkam, and adjacent areas. The programme started at 7.30 am in the morning which grouped into 4 to 5 batches and disposed off the accumulated waste through M/s Ramkey Ltd., Chennai. Besides, Department officials from Tamil Nadu

he water is an important and crucial element to all living beings for existance and growth in the world. In our country, we have very big challenges and scarcity for water every year, to say that 40% of our ground water is depleted fastly at rapid pace. The Drought has become a common S. The research analysts say that the water demand will exceed supply by a factor of two by 2030. It is pertinant that overall policy changes, infrastructural changes, people's behaviour and data upgradation etc should be made to have a close watch on the water front at the national level.The legal framework has water rights to land rights and overuse at all times. For this purpose, we need an integrated legal framework for surface and ground water governance by placing water rights at the national level. The government retains the ultimate ownership and control of water. Union government should be made a co-equal partner with states for agenda setting and monitoring over water resources. Hence Move water from State List to Concurrent List for a greater say right from funds allocations, maintenance and usages etc and also for linking of all rivers in the country. Niti Aayog's creation of a Composite Water Management Index to measure the performance at the state level is a welcome step. A National Water Council responsible for coordination and overseeing like GST Council should be formed. The focus on improved efficiency at the decentralised level also needs to be monitored in agricultural sector which consumes 80% of our water. We should prioritise water for bringing minor-irrigation schemes and allocation of necessary funds for monitoring efficiency and better performance like states of Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat where it is in vogue that so many dry lands have been converted into wet and fertile lands and fetch high agricultural production. There should also be a critical need for comprehensive water priorities where drinking water should be priced at affordable prices. Infrastructural facilities for conservation of groundwater, storage and recharge are prime key priorities. In this connection, it is alarming that only 8% of our annual rainfall is captured and we lose about 40% of our water in leakages while transportation of water and taking through pipes and whenever abundant rainfall happens, we are not storing it sensibly which is wasted and go to sea. It is regrettable to note that we are using only 15% of waste water. In this regard, we should involve farming communities to build necessary ponds, check dams for the purpose of alternative storage and supply. Usage of treatment plants and piping waste water for recycling should be foremost for agricultural and drinking purposes. Israel's farming model should be followed where 50% of it's irrigation needs are mostly met from treated waste water and by better usage of water through drip irrigation methods. Israel stands first in agricultural production in the world eventhough most of the areas are covered with sand dunes. There should be overall behavioural changes in people's attitude and change perceptions. Remote censors should be installed in pipes to canals to prevent leakages and also maintenance, repairs etc and in this regard, establish the central data to monitor and coordinate on better usages of surface and ground water. The challenges are best opportunities for transformative reforms. which should be seized on an urgent mission by the government.

The brahmachary who adopts celebacy throughout his life, living in a guru's abode and lead a contented life is the third type. After the death, all
reach the other world. The brahma gnanis live ever merging with the Brahmn. Brajapati, the Brahma experimented and experienced by doing great tapas. That is why the three vedas emerged. Out of it was created the earth , water and sky. He discovered 'OM' in everything like a stalk in the leaf that connects with the tree. All sound is Omkaram. The sun or surya is like honey to Devas. Devas never eats nor drinks the honey but feel satisfied in seeing the honey. Sun never rises nor sets in Brahmaloga which is luminuous everywhere.The Brahmagnani always remain as a great tapasvi. Gayatri is the supreme mantra of all mantras. The Purusha or Brahmn in a human body is even greater. The Purusha remain 1/4 th in the human body and the other 3/4 th remain in the galaxy. The ever luminuous loga always illumines that
sparks everywhere. All the other logas are under it. The atma prakasa in one's body and the ever luminuous object in the galaxy are one and the same. If you touch a body you feel the warmth of the body. If you close your ears, you hear diffrent types of sounds and 'OM'. You should worship the sound which makes you beautiful and renowned. Chandokya Upanishad proclaims about Sandilya feat which is well illustrated by Sandilya Maharishi. It srarts with 'Tat' which is' that' which is espoused as Brahmn.
