Bhakti Fest - 2018
“Elders are the students and the youth are the teachers” The result of this vision is Sruti Kendra’s intense engagement with children, the Balakendras. These Balakendras in various localities of Chennai and its suburbs, impart lessons of moral values and our great traditions through stories and activities. This is conducted by Sevika volunteers through weekly classes and periodical Smart Camps. There are more than 20 Balakendras functioning catering to about 1000 children. Nava Vidha Bhakti(Nine paths of devotion) as a concept was born in 2017. The inspiration behind this is to instil in children the divine virtue of selfless love to God and all his creations. In essence, the concept of Bhakti is universal brotherhood, compassion and selfless love towards all of God’s creatures. This concept was converted into a mega sound and light show with 160 children, 200 characters, 9 episodes and lasted two hours. This was entirely conceived and executed by Sruti Kendra Family at Vani Mahal, Chennai on 19Nov last year. This was well received by the audience consisting of parents and invitees. The book Nava Vidha Bhakti was brought out as a syllabus for Balakendra children. The main aim of this book is to instil the following values: Equality and compassion towards every living being, viewing all as God’s creations Mental peace and selfconfidence through Bhakti Respect to elders, Gurus and

Cauvery... S.Ganapathy, 7358768630 The Supreme Court delivered on Feb 16th, a bold, logical, historical and landmark verdict in a decade old boiling Cauvery water dispute case between the southern states of Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Pondichery and Kerala. The verdict is a fair and balanced one which increased Karnataka share of the Cauvery water and reduced by the same proportions for Tamilnadu. The Supreme Court hiked the water share of Kanataka by 14.75 TMC feet and therby reduced Tamilnadu's allocation. It also underscored that no single state can claim the sole right and primacy in water resources and declared it as national assets. The court has ordered that the centre should immediately frame the required legal and technical frameworks in 6 week time to implement the Tribunal Award in letter and spirit. Tamilnadu having seen a state of agrarian distress and woes in its delta districts has to be satisfied with the prescribed allaocation met as per a schdule. Resolving the intricate inter-state water dispute is mainly about balancing the genuine demands and the interests of each state culminating a pragmatic sharing arrangement. This should put an end to the smooth implementation of the order which is valid for 15 years and share the bounty and distress caused by nature. Karnataka can take heart from the reduction of its mandatory release target and the additional share of 4.75 TMC for the burgeoning cosmopolitan Bangaluru city to meet its drinking and domestic purposes. The share for Pondichery and Kerala is maintined to the same level without any changes. In the meantine, it is a good augury that Tamilnadu government has called for an all-oarty meet on Feb 22nd, to discuss about the pros and cons of the verdict in full breadth and take a decision in the matter and urge the Central government to implement the order of the court. Tamilnadu has been allowed to draw 10 TMC of ground water from a total of 20 TMC feet beneath the Cauvery river basin. Considering all the aspects of the verdict into consideration, the long awaited verict ia fair and well balanced. The order on undergound potential of 10TMC in the river basin for Tamilnadu need a review. Actually the potential of ground water is based on overall rainfall occured in the delta basins while it is already facing the wrath of nature, is not a relevant factor to determine the apportionment of the share and there is no data available at present. The judgement will end the confrontational acrimony between the riparian states for mutual and cooperative attitude in the larger interests of the region. In the end, the protection of environment including forests and conservation of water management and its potential use of changes in crop patterns and cultivation of crops that need less water may turn out to be more important in the long run rather than the bounty from the Cauvery.
Gift of God The greatest creation of all creations of God in this world is mankind, which is the great gift of God. There are seven types of living beings in this earth like plants, Reptiles/Amphibians, birds, animals, mankind and Devas etc. Mankind has got stupendous power and strength which rests in the self. It is called Athma or Brahman.. By their actions , they can become and attain the status of animals and above all, Godhood. God has given the innate qualities of good, bad, lowliness and wickedness which are imbibed in his behaviour. Thus the creator has manifested everything in their self. No being in this world possess the abundant power, intelligence and intellect like mankind. Every human has got five sense organs like eyes, nose, mouth, ear,and skin etc which have distinct actions but above all the sense of discrimination, logic and equity. The importance of the sixth sense is to know about the self.which gives illumination and
power to all the five organs to act. Mankind is the greatest gift of God which can not be retrieved or reborn again in this world. Most of the people spend most of their time in eating, sleeping, enying in carnal pleasures and run after wealth, status, fame, and power which are worthless and impermanent. But the main crux of life is to live with utter happiness. But people are missing every second and do not know that their end is nearing them. The death can happen at any time. Hence the life is uncertain and a mystery. To understand this,we need a super intelligence and intellect. Out of ignorance, we falsely think that we are body and at the end, we die and think that is the end of life. The greatest secret of nuances is how to die oneself before death by withdrawing oneslf from the sense organs and worldly life and accept it as it is which is quite natural. (to be continued)
