Chinese New Year.
!
We live in a very multi cultural world in the 21st Century. More of us are aware of the variety of cultures and customs from around the world. Chinese New Year has become more popular in recent years. The actual festivities usually start the day before the New Year and continue until the 15th day of the New Year.
Those who's birthday fall under this sign are seen as smart, clever and intelligent.
!
There have been many famous people born under the monkey sign:
!
Julius Caesar Leonardo Da Vinci Tom Hanks Elizabeth Taylor
!
!
These people are but a few but they share common traits. They have all excelled in their chosen field and have been totally dedicated to the lives that have led.
For many people, Chinese New Year signifies the celebration of life and also encouraging fresh thoughts and actions to encourage good fortune for the year. On Monday the 8th of February, people will be celebrating the year of the Monkey. People born under this sign are very quick witted, mega curious and adventurous.
People across the world will be celebrating the New Year and many will be exchanging gifts. Money is given in red envelopes to children and the older generation. Decorations are hung up in red and gold to invite good fortune. Red is seen as a very lucky colour and gold represents wealth. However there are things

Each Chinese New Year is characterised by one of the 12 animals that are in the Chinese Zodiac.
that you should not do at this time as they are considered bad luck:
!
Wash your hair. Crying. Wearing red underwear. Asking for a loan. Cleaning.
!
So we hope that you enjoy your Chinese New Year and celebrate with friends and family.

Moorish Snack Mikado is called Pocky in Japan and is a Japanese snack food. It was first sold in 1966 and it's a chocolate coated biscuit sticks.
!
There are many dierent variations of this simple snack:
!
Milk, mousse green tea honey, banana and chocolate. I managed to pick up some special Diam bar special edition mikado sticks. I love Diam bars anyway and I found that these snacks were so
Moorish. I did actually find myself eating these one after the other. We are always encouraging people to eat healthy but the occasional treat always works.
!
So if you want to eat something sweet but not too over the top, then give them a try...

Polly and the fit mum formula Polly has been very busy with her business and we hope that 2016 will be a fantastic year for her…
Dear Readers,
!
It’s always nice to be recognised for you skills or expertise isn’t it? When was the last time you were asked to take on a new role or position? Even if it takes up some time the fact that you were asked means you’re valued to the asker, which in turn should increase the value you put on yourself!

I was honoured just before Christmas to be asked to be one of the new Protein Pow ambassadors. Proteinpow.com started as a recipe site to make recipes out of protein powders, which are popular in the fitness world to aid muscle recovery and growth but in fact are extremely healthy for everyone and can be used in everything from pancakes to
cookies to cakes, and even pizza bases (though I’d recommend an unflavoured one, can’t imagine chocolate and tomato is a great combo!)
!
My role involves creating recipes from the new Pow Cooking mixes, a pastime you know I love if you’ve been following my columns. I’ll also be at select Tesco stores across the
!
South in the coming weeks so check the events page on proteinpow.com to see where you can come and say Hi and try samples of the tasty bars and truffles you can make with the baking mixes, which can be used like flour but are gluten free oat based mixed with low carb and high fibre coconut flour, pure vanilla and either pea or whey protein, so definitely healthier for you than refined flour.
!
Do drop me a line and let me know if you can come to one of the tasting events, I’d love to meet some of Feminarum’s loyal readers!

Steve Wright Apple Watch! The Review! ! ! If you are at all interested in technology, you cant fail to have noticed the recent trend in Wearable Tech, and Smart Watches in general. A Smart Watch is just like your normal wrist watch, it tells the time… But it also does much more.. By syncing wirelessly to your mobile phone it can notify you when you receive a text or email and even let you answer or make a call directly on your watch.! Up until now no one has managed to convince the average consumer that they really need something on their wrist that duplicates what your phone already does. After all, How difficult is it to take your phone out of your pocket anyway? Apple, however, are on a mission to change all that with their Apple Watch. Feminarum and Janus Designs decided to take the plunge and purchase one and let our readers know whether this should be on their Christmas Present Wish List this year.! ! First Impressions! ! We purchased the Gold Apple Watch Sport at a price of £339, direct from our local Apple Store in Southampton. ! The whole experience from entering the shop to walking out was friendly and professional. With the Apple Staff Member setting up the watch and syncing it to my iPhone 6s, and making sure I was happy with it before I left the shop.. A lot of companies could take note on Apples Customer experience and service.! From the moment you take the box out bag,
12 •
! , you know Apple are trying to make a statement with this product. Its more akin to buying a high class wrist watch then a piece of tech.. The watch is beautifully displayed in a large oblong box, with a spare (smaller) strap, charger and documentation underneath the watch tray.! ! Once out of the box the Apple Watch feels well built and amazingly light. It fits nicely around the wrist, with the neoprene strap fitting snugly. It definitely looks a lot more expensive on your wrist then what you would expect at this price.! ! ! Usability! ! The Apple Watch does a lot more then just allow you to receive notifications of emails and texts and make and receive calls. A lot of the most popular apps you have on your phone (CNN, BBC News, Facebook, Twitter, Shazam, etc) have companion apps that install automatically on the watch. So not only do you receive notifications on your watch from those apps, but you can also go in and browse these apps in a similar way you would on your phone.. ! Of course navigation on a screen this small is another matter, and Apple have come up trumps with this too.. You can, as on the iPhone, swipe your finger on the screen to navigate a list, but you can also use the crown on the watch (Apple call it a Digital Crown) to scroll through lists.! ! Just raising your wrist brings the screen to life and shows you the watch face (Of which there are multiple types, with multiple bits of configurable info on each face). From here a click of the Digital Crown will bring you to your Apps.. Using your finger you can scroll around, and a press on the required App’s icon will start the App for you.. A press on the Digital Crown will exit the App and another press will bring you back to you watch face.! ! The only other button on the Apple Watch is just below the Digital Crown.. Pressing this
brings up a carousel list of your favourite contacts. You use the Digital Crown to scroll through your contacts and then click on their Contact Picture in the centre to allow you to call or text them.! ! ! Apple’s Siri is present and correct on the watch, as it is on the iPhone and iPad. Raise your wrist and say ‘Hey Siri’ and you can then ask your assistant anything.. From ‘Call Julie’ to ‘Whats the Distance of the Earth from the Sun?’. If you can do it on your phone, you can do it on your watch. ! One of the more handy features helps when replying to a text message… When you receive a message you get a button to reply.. Just tap it and the watch will come up with some quick intelligent and contextual replies. You can either tap on one of these or click on the microphone button.. When you click on the microphone, Siri will allow you to dictate your message (extremely accurately I might add), which you can then either send as text or as a voice recording.! ! ! Battery Life! ! Of course, all of this would be useless if the battery died after a couple of hours.. But its good news all round.. In all our tests, after a full day of use from 8am to around Midnight the watch still had approx 60% battery life left. Realistically the watch should last you two days with average usage.! ! ! Conclusion! ! If you are an iPhone owner and work in a job where its not practical to check your phone when a notification or call comes in, then the Apple Watch is definitely something to consider. It quickly becomes an integral part of your day and means you use the iPhone less often. However at the price point it is at the moment it is definitely a considered purchase and not a must have…. Yet!!!

“Our gallery has become something of a focal and talking point with our loyal readers.” 6 • Your Magazine • website.com
!
gallery of guys The Story so far….. The Gallery has become very popular with our loyal readers. It is something that comes up often when I do interviews for different magazines. Many people ask where we got the idea from. The whole concept of the Gallery is give women some eye candy. For so long men have had suggestive images of women which they have gazed upon in the media. After much research (Which was very hard…) It became clear that none of the women’s magazines currently in the market are offering images that women could admire on a Monday morning at work. Oh but is that not double standards I hear you say. Maybe it is but life is all about equality and women in the 21st Century are fighting for this every day.
And so the gallery was born. For two years it has grown and many of our Guys have been very popular. We will be expanding this with possible editorial shoots based on our gallery. We want to expand the success we already have.
! Last year, out special issue on the Gallery of Guys proved to be very popular and we may do another in 2016. So if you know of any fit guys who would like to appear in a digital women’s magazine, then let us know via out social media…
So as this is a women’s magazine, we decided that we would take up the banner and be equal. It was a decision that would prove to be very controversial but we are no strangers to controversy.

Michael Palin Book signing in Chichester I managed to meet Michael at a book signing recently. Last year I had the great pleasure in meeting the inspiration personality Michael Palin. He was doing a book signing at my local Waterstones in Chichester. I went along and waited in the queue along with many other people. As I looked at the snaking line of people, I was surprised to see a wide demographic cross section of people. There were women, men and also families. It was great to see groups of people talking to each other, many of them complete strangers until 28•
today. There was a real upbeat feel as the sta at the bookshop kept everyone fed and watered.
!
Finally there was a round of applause and sure enough Michael Palin appeared. We all had a ticket and also a post it note with the dedicated name written on it. So on a small table near the far end of the top floor, Mr Michael Palin begins the task of signing thousands of books. I had picked up one of his books which was based on his diaries. I stood at the top end of the queue and waited.
It did not take long for my turn and smiling, I look at Mr Palin. I was greeted by a very charismatic and warm smile. I gave him my book and he asked whom the dedication was for. I explained that it was for my husband who was a big fan. I continued that had been waiting for an hour in the queue and joked about it being love for me to wait for a signature.
!
Mt. Palin smiled at me and then it was time to move on. With my book in hand, I left Waterstones with a very broad smile.

Ai Wei Wei
His exhibition in London I have been a big fan of Ai Wei Wei for many years and last year in November, I had the great pleasure of going to the Royal Academy in London.
!
Ai Wei Wei is a well known Chinese artist and outspoken humanitarian. His work has been exhibited across the world and in November it came to the UK.
!
Having been to art college and always having an interest in art, I was very excited to standing at the entrance to the exhibit outside. Recycled wooden trees flanked me as I walked towards the inside of the academy. Inside I was greeted by some amazing exhibits. Ai Wei Wei has produced some amazing pieces that really reflect his life, ideas and beliefs.
!
Walking around the exhibition my senses were overloaded by the variety of sculptures and interpretive pieces of art. For me the most emotive was the boxes which represented Wei Wei 81 days in captivity. Looking down or inside, you got an idea of the suffocating element to his incarceration.
!
Much of the art on display highlighted issues in China. The most saddening one
30 •
was the steel rods that were found to be holding buildings together in Shinzen. During an earthquake in 2008 5,335 students died. China release numbers and not names of the victims. Ai Wei Wei and his team put together a list of all of the children's names and it was on the walls in the exhibition hall. The sound of hushed silence as people read the thousands of black words is humbling.
!
The ancient pots were amazing to see and especially since they had been given a very interesting coat of paint. The main one with the Cola signature on it was very striking.
!
All in all, it was a very stimulating and humbling exhibition to visit. I know that he will be exhibiting his work across the world and I am really glad that I saw it in London in 2015.

Narinder trips and travel !
Something for the Whole Family
The start of another year brings with it a time for reflection, evaluation, promises and plans. We use past years as a gauge for the forthcoming year and make promises to ourselves and our loved ones to either do more, be better or achieve more. We immediately try and fill our year up with events to look forward to and travel features very highly on this list.
!
Travel, whether it is domestic or abroad, is very important for the whole family as it gives us a chance to stop and take stock of what is happening in our lives and in the lives of our children. We can spend time together, get to know each other again without all the noise of modern day life. This is very important in maintaining the health of our family units because quality time is very precious.
!
My name is Narinder and I run an independent travel company and I have first hand experience of the huge importance of family holidays. The start of the year is a very busy time in the travel industry and I have many families coming to me for my help and expertise. I am not an internet based company, my company, The Travel Agency, builds the holiday around the client and their family. I always try and cater for likes and preferences and then give a little bit extra. I like to think I put the personal back into your holiday because I get to know you before I suggest any trip. Each trip is individual but all are important to the families booking them and every itinerary is planned with your family in mind.
! 32 •
! !
.
I believe travel is very important not only does it give us something to look forward to but it is also a great education. It allows us to be free and discover who we are and learn about the world around us and grow into more tolerant individuals and who better to make these discoveries with than with your family. The following quote sums my thoughts up:

'Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.'

Holiday on Ice Our Review of the show Holiday on Ice at the Brighton Centre.!
!
I had the great pleasure of watching the new Holiday on Ice in January. They stage this event every year at the wonderful Brighton Centre. I went to see the "Passion" show which entertains families and has something for everyone. This particular show goes through the lives of the skaters and they talk about themselves and explain the beginnings, the beauty and the glamour of Holiday on Ice. We were also privy to many behind the scenes shots during the show as well.! I went along to the show with huge expectations of witnessing an amazing spectacle. !
!
The history of Holiday on Ice started in Toledo/Ohio during 1943. "In the past seven decades, Holiday on Ice has welcomed more then 328million visitors which makes it the most visited ice show in the world." (www.holidayonice.com)!
!
Well all I can say is that I was certainly was not disappointed at all. Each set was executed with such prestigious excellence that many people around the Centre were clapping continuously throughout the whole evening. The costumes were both colourful and inspirational and complimented each dance and song perfectly.!
!
The musical score which for me is pivotal the creation of the whole experience with Holiday on Ice, was sublime and seductive to listen to. It was clear that the mixture of all of these elements proves just how popular the event is for the Brighton Centre.!
!
38 •
Each skater as they performed during the evening, bought their own set of talents and infused the evening  with great deal of personality. It was clear that everyone had contributed in their own way to how the show was structured. !
!
Although the solo numbers were impressive, what really caught my attention was the intricate and in some parts hair raising group dances. When you have a large group of guys and girls all dancing together on ice in formation, it becomes very impressive to watch.! The skaters clearly revelled in the attention from the crowds and even when there were a few first night nerves and stumbles, everyone remained professional and maintained the dance routine all the way through the show.!
!
The whole evening was entertaining and very obviously aimed at families. The interaction between the skaters and the crowds was fantastic. Many of them actually danced with families during the performance. This was something that I had never seen before.! If you get the opportunity to go to one of the Holiday on Ice events, I can firmly recommend it for an entertaining evening for all the family.!
