Gentry Road
Gentry Road was our mother’s bit of land, the acreage she inherited when her folks passed. South of Inez was split between her brothers, north was divided between our mother and our Aunt Betty, and it was nestled there on Gentry Road with only one neighbor, Ms. Gentry herself.
This was the home of 5M Racing, an allencompassing, all-hands-on-deck quarter horse operation that would become woven into the DNA of Double D Ranch, in some ways that were obvious and some ways that it took decades and Daddy’s passing to realize. The flair for flash and dedication to detail, we got from Dad; the relentless work ethic, we got from Mom. Gentry Road was where it was instilled in us that you could be more; that nothing was out of reach as long as you had a clear vision, a little bit of faith, and a whole lot of determination.
Fortuitously, ‘gentry’ was also a term historically ascribed to an upper class, aristocrats who were not quite nobility but just shy of it, which kind of captures the upscale essence of this collection. It introduces some exquisite new exotics, shimmer in ways we’ve never seen, and a bit of a sultry side.
This collection aims to be elevated but not intimidating, aspirational but not unapproachable. It’s embracing your roots but adorning that feeling you were destined for the next level, it’s dressing for the job you want.

We’re taking the catwalk to the wild side – unforgettable investment pieces that are ready to wear, but worthy of the runway.
If we did a word cloud of this season, ‘elevated’ would probably be the most prominent. It’s the all-encompassing aspiration of the collection; we want to take what’s already high-end, and then turn it up one or two more notches. It’s a concept we’re applying to everything, but nothing more so than our exotics. The python jackets, the fringed vests, the exquisite furs. Sourced on our travels abroad last summer, the materials are unrivaled and the craftsmanship is remarkable, which makes them inherently covetable, and they’re extremely limited edition, so they’re also collectible.

Mother to Mother
Everyone loves style with a story, and these one-ofa-kind creations were commissioned for a once-ina-lifetime event: Cheryl’s first foray as Mother of the Groom. When her eldest son Jack celebrated his nuptials in South Texas last year, our dearest Oscar Betz, a lapidary artisan of legendary status, hand-crafted this cluster collection from iridescent (and apropos) Mother of Pearl. The headliner is an enormous askew circlesquare cluster brooch, complemented by a statement ring, and a pair of Oscar’s signature chandelier earrings. Although instantly identifiable as Oscars, this set is elevated to a more formal feel with sleek settings, symmetry, and stone uniformity. Whether you’re the mother, the Maid of Honor, or the Mrs. herself, Mother of Pearl is perfection for adding chic southwestern style to the special day.

Tack-tile Influence
Everyone is shaped by what they see and are surrounded by, in some way, for better or for worse. Creatives, especially, draw from a well within; writers write what they know, artists paint what they see, and unsurprisingly, designers are no different.
“Horse races were a key component of our childhood,” said Creative Director Cheryl McMullen. “We were seemingly at one every weekend. But whereas I think my sisters could tell you all about the stables and the winner’s circles, my mental snapshots of that time in our lives were of the garments and gear – on humans and horses! I remember the silks, the ladies dripping in turquoise at the All American Futurity, and the tack – we were always surrounded by tack. I think that influence is evident in Double D designs, the heavy presence of leather and hardware.”
Leather is inarguably a staple and a signature of the brand, and embellishments are our calling card. Studding shows up strong – particularly in this collection, but it’s always a factor – and one can’t help but draw the connection.
“When your nose is to the grindstone, you don’t often zoom out and assess the inherent influences, but with a collective 30-plus years of designs to look back on, you see what your constants are, the aesthetic elements of your identity as a designer and a brand. Given the gift of hindsight, I think it’s just another way Daddy is imprinted on us and almost everything we do.”

The most classic color combination of all time is ruling the runways once again, and we are here for it. The “Big Mama Mummy”
With our recent acquisition of the legendary label, Mummy’s Bundle is back in the spotlight and center stage – literally, Lainey Wilson loves them. Vintage or contemporary, these cool cowgirl necklaces and their statement sterling silver charms have a whole new generation in a choke-hold (pun intended). Mummy’s Bundle by Double D Ranch
Stable Upbringing
Growing up in 5M Racing taught us a lot of life lessons, and in innumerable ways formed the foundation within us for what Double D Ranch would become.
As you might’ve guessed, 5M stands for five McMullens, aptly named because it was a full-family operation in every sense.
“Nobody went to the barn alone,” recalls Hedy. “It was always all of us. There was plenty to do and everyone had a job. Cleaning the stalls, shoveling the shavings which would sometimes take us a day and a half. Mom would put on the finishing touches; she’d rake the grounds all going one way like how you’d vacuum shag carpet back in the day, and she always kept the flowers fresh. It was pristine. Dad’s mantra was to tend to the barn like the [horse’s] owner might show up any minute, and we often had a hundred horses or more stabled at a time. Of course, we had hired hands also, but it took all of us.”
And with that, the seed was sown for building the next family business, this little ole label we’ve been growing for more than three decades now: Do it right, do it well, and do it together.

Sultry Suede
A new side of suede is taking shape.
Long appreciated for its luxurious texture and elevated aesthetic, suede is showing us that maybe versatility is its strong suit. It’s trending toward the tailored; less slouchy boots and boho bags, more slim-fit flares and structured bustier. It works, because it blends upscale and edgy without being too over the top. Plus, you feel like a million bucks in it. We like to think of it as ‘look-at-me luxe’.
Ok, we see you, suede!
Style Tip: If you’re not into showing stomach skin, layer the bustier over a silk blouse or crisp white button-down for flattering 5th Avenue-style chic.

Leaving a Legacy
Our dad was a damn good horseman with an eye for winners and a champion horse to his credit.
Ostensibly, that might be his legacy. But he was larger than life and his legacy reaches way beyond racehorses.
“Daddy grew up dirt-floor dirt poor, but he had drive,” said Audrey Franz, youngest McMullen sister and CEO of Double D Ranch. “He had that fire in him – a desire for more for himself and, more importantly, a belief he could make it happen. Intentionally or otherwise, that had an indelible impact on us. Starting out, we never imagined that Double D Ranch would evolve into what it’s become, but we sure didn’t spend a lot of time doubting ourselves either.”
It wasn’t just the ideation, it was how he put it into practice.
“Dad’s dad Odie had a saying, ‘If it ain’t red, it ain’t no good’,” Hedy added. “And boy, we really took ownership of that with 5M Racing. The trailers, the silks, the blinders – they were all custom and they were all red. It was our signature, people could see us coming and they knew it was us. It taught us about building a brand – and brand identity – and that’s definitely carried on into Double D, we are recognizable at a glance. We sometimes laugh at Cheryl for being such a stickler about being ‘on brand’, down to the most peculiar thing, but she gets that from Daddy.”
In a way, we all did – it’s the DDR difference. Commitment to quality, dedication to detail, and taking pride in everything you put your name on.

Winner’s Circle
Daddy picked winners; it was his gift, and it became his reputation. More than being a trainer or an owner or even a breeder, people in the quarter horse industry came to Daddy because he had an eye; he could reliably spot a runner and he was willing to sell. That was what made him unique: for the most part, he kept his ego out of it. It wasn’t that important to him to have his name attached to every win; his M.O. was to find good horses and put them with people who could take them big places. Whether the record books reflect it or not, Daddy had a hand in a whole lot of winner’s circles.
