MICHAEL G CLARK PAI RSW Cheers! Salut! Down the hatch! Prost! Bottoms up! Cin cin! ‘Santé’ is a toast we use to drink to each other’s health, and our ‘good health’ has been a major preoccupation for many of us over the last few years. However you say it, good health is what we all wish for ourselves and our friends. is new solo exhibition by Michael Clark captures life’s small but much missed celebrations. ese paintings – outdoor scenes drenched in sunshine; still moments in a quiet café; lazy market days and strolls with friends or family pets – get to the heart of how many of us have looked after others and been looked after ourselves in recent times. ese subtle works, layered with paint and imbued with meaning, offer refuge and companionship in our homes, reminding us of good times in the past and happy times to come. As life returns to normal, Michael’s desire to visit old haunts and discover new ones reflects how many of us are feeling. e paintings are a celebration of life and love of both people and place, linking the simple yet significant pleasures of the everyday.
