Michael G Clark RGI RSW PAI Michael has developed and refined a highly individual style, mainly in oil, in his observations of French street life, as well as landscapes at home and abroad. His palette is subtle and distinctive, his sense of composition and choice of subject highly original and engaging. Born in Ayr, Michael studied at Edinburgh College of Art under Elizabeth Blackadder, John Houston, and Robin Philipson.

Alison McWhirter Over the past two decades, Alison McWhirter has consolidated her position as arguably the most gifted artist among the younger generation of New Scottish Colourists, producing works of irresistible allure. Born in Dumfries, Alison trained as a painter at the prestigious Bath Spa Academy (formerly the Bath Academy of Art), gaining a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and an MFA in Visual Culture at Bath Spa University. image: After the Deluge Sunflowers and Roses, Oil on canvas, 40 x 40 cm.

Steven Lindsay Steven studied painting at Glasgow School of Art in the 80s. On leaving, he embarked on a successful career as a recording artist in the music industry, returning to his first love, painting, in 2011. On the spectrum of Vermeer in the Dutch Golden Age of painterly skill, Steven brings an exciting take on that genre of European figurative tradition. The drawing and brushwork is classical yet used in an utterly modern context. He lives and works in Glasgow. image: Push the zeitgeist, Oil on canvas, 100 x 100 cm.

Simon Rivett Simon’s paintings explore his environment, whether it is the city, the landscape of the Borders, or the Northern Islands. The resultant painting is full of varied shapes and textures set against the rolling forms of the hills, making ideal motifs for his creative explorations, using layers, colour, line and shape. Simon Rivett trained at Goldsmiths College in London and gained a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. He has been painting landscape from his days as a student, from the declining industrial landscape of his home in Newcastle, to living and working in Lewis and exploring the unique rural landscape of the Outer Hebrides, before moving recently to live in Edinburgh.

David Schofield RGI David studied Illustration and Printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. Graduating in 1993, he worked for a number of years within the Design school teaching Illustration and Life Drawing. His recent landscape work centres on the Inner Hebrides island of Muck. Whilst there, he was very drawn to the island’s large wooden boat, ‘Wave’ which, coming to the end of her seagoing days, was moored high up on the machair, just above where the island’s seal colony likes to relax on the rocks.

Christian Moore A transition over a five year period, from working as a commercial fashion illustrator to creating his own distinctive art, has seen Christian emerge as a new young talent in the UK art scene. His first exhibition at Doubtfire last year saw his focus move from couture into an exploration of landscape elements in his natural surroundings. Christian’s bronze cold casting, used in his trees and other subjects, is incorporated into rich backgrounds through texture and depth of paint and other media. He was born in 1981 on the Wirral in Northwest England, established his career in London and moved to Perthshire in 2021 to raise his family. The change of lifestyle and his immersion in the beauty of the nature around him inspired him to develop his unique approach to his art. image: Moments like this, Cold cast bronze with mineral paint and sand on hessian, 33 x 43 cm.

Karen Clark Karen graduated in 1984 from the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, gaining an honours degree in Visual Arts and English Literature. She then worked for Liberty, soaking up the delights of the Fabrics departments, before moving on to a South Kensington publishing company where she met the artist Michael Clark. They married in 1990 and had three children in London before moving to Ayrshire in 1999. She balances her drawing and painting with teaching English full-time. Her work reflects her continued interest in fabrics, textiles and clothing. image: The gift (crocodile bag), Mixed media, 13 x 19 cm.

Lynn McGregor RSW Lynn McGregor was born in Fife and now lives in Argyll, where her studio overlooks Loch Awe. She trained at Edinburgh College of Art and was elected RSW in 2001. The source of her work is landscape in memory. She works intuitively, seeking a balance between the various elements of texture, movement and geometry that she finds in the landscape around her, using energetic overlayerings of colour and blocking out shapes and marks as she works. image: After Dawn, Acrylic on board, 34 x 34 cm.

Ian Neill Ian attended Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 2000 with a BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting with a Distinction in Historical and Critical Studies. He has developed a series of figure paintings dealing with issues relating to male psychology in the modern world, such as feelings of isolation and anxiety. The solitude and loneliness suggested in some of his figurative works is alleviated and transformed with a sense of hope and positivity through the use of a subtle but confident colour palette and thoughtful composition.

Joyce Gunn Cairns MBE Joyce trained in Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, having previously completed a degree in German and Comparative Religion at Aberdeen University. She has become one of Scotland’s most cherished artists, exhibiting for 35 years, with work in the permanent collections of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, The National Gallery of Ireland, several universities, including Edinburgh and Cambridge, and many private collections. “I am concerned in my work as an artist to express my belief in the equality of all sentient life forms.” image: The Messenger, Oil on board, 68 x 70 cm.

Alan James McLeod Born in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Alan graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1990 with a BA (Hons) in Applied Design. Currently based in Worthing, Sussex, his early career was in textile design, working with producers such as Habitat, Zoffany and Sanderson Fabrics. His works are created using hand-painted papers, before being collaged together, blending gouache, textiles and mixed media. Alan creates unique works of art which translate his subjects into beautiful, weathered and textured work on paper. image: A remembered task, Gouache and metal leaf on paper laid on board, 58 x 82 cm.

Anupa Gardner Anupa Gardner is an illustrator and printmaker working in Edinburgh. Born in India, she obtained a Masters in Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art in 2008. Anupa’s inspiration comes from the everyday, sometimes blurring with nostalgia for a place or a moment. Her work looks at 'the ordinary' to convey events in time that are special or magical. image: The Lookout, Reduction lino, 59 x 84 cm. Edition 1/12.

Helen Tabor Helen was born in Middlesex in 1960 and gained a BA in English and History at York, followed by a PGCE. After a career teaching English, Drama and Art, she settled in Scotland and became a full-time artist in 1997, combining bringing up a family with developing her painting. Helen’s painting style is both expressive and delicate, combining often vigorous brush strokes with fine detail. This creates an alluring contrast which intrigues and excites the eye. image: Under the trees, Oil on board, 70 x 70 cm.
