ew song-filtering restrictions have been put into effect on Napster as the company strug gles to find a way to appease the record compa nies (led by the "big five" — Universal, Sony, Warner, EMI and Bertelsmann) that appear dead-set on shut ting it down for copyright infringements. Both sides in the ongoing case will meet before a US district court judge later this month. M ac fans are crowing over t h e announcement that graphics adapt ers based on the new GeForce 3 chip have been promised to ship first for the Macintosh. However, PC versions won't be far behind. Look for PC-compatible versions of these high-end graphics cards to ship by the end of March. According to NVidia, Microsoft's DirectX 8 multimedia libraries will be able to take full advantage of its new features right away.
