RESEARCH

reggae.com

reggaetopsite.com

bobmarley.com

I researched different reggae websites in order to get an idea of what was already out there. I was quite shocked to find that pretty much every site out there was terrible. There was no use of colour on allot of the sites and if colour was used it was garish and ugly.

From a distance this does not say anything about reggae. Poor use of colour. Easy Navigation though.

This was one of the better sites I came across. Much better colour scheme and theme. More natural, this is how I imagined more of the sites to be.

niceup.com

rastaites.com

reggae-reggae.co.uk

Yet again another poorly designed reggae website. Useful information but poorly laid out and does not say anything about reggae. Small use of rasta colour scheme.

Awful website. Terrible colour scheme. The background gives you a head ache.

This was another one of the better sites I came across. Much better colour scheme and theme. Quite simple but works very well.

INITIAL IDEAS

SITE MAP

Boxes?

Reggae Tree

I planned to have a 5 Page website including the home page.

I have decided that the page will not have a scroll down function. The page will be fixed all the information will be available without having to search about

Hand Drawn Site?

Circles?

At first I wanted to go with a hand drawn site but realised that this would wind up quite hard to code. So i thought it would be better to go with something a bit more symetrical and structured.

I liked the Idea of the cirle in the center as a focal point. I wanted to experiment with this aspect of the design. A bit too simple though.

Final Design This is my final design for the home page. There will be bottons in the four corners which link to the relevant pages. These buttons will have a roll over feature too.

Center Circle Changes I drew up how the central Circle pannel would change on its relevant page. As the site will be made up of 9 jpegs I thought the easiest option would be to redesign the center panel and replace it for each page.

Roll Over

Wire Frame

This is how the home page might look with the roll over function.

I measured out the wire frame on illustrator to work out how many pixels each panel was and where the buttons might go when coded.

The colour scheme is a bit too garish really, needs to be alot more subtle.

After coming up with this initial digital designs I decided to change them slightly. I didnt think they looked rough enough so I went on to experiment with textures.

Legends - Bob Marley and the Wailers For the legends page I concentrated on 3 artists. With more time I would include more. I went on to add 3 buttons in order to allow the user to scroll through the artists. I think maybe the text could be more legible

Cut Up Page

I am not too happy with this page. I feel the layout doesnt work that well. The square images within the circle clash I feel.

As you can see here this is how I split the page up in Photoshop. This meant it was quite easy to code as everything just needed to slot together.
