FROM THE CITY

MANAGER’S DESK

As we approach the summer season, the City of Douglasville plans to host several community events and programs for citizens to enjoy. Our goal is to deliver high-quality programming for our residents and ensure we offer a range of inclusive options that serve various age groups, interests, and demographics.

Our city staff continuously looks for ways to enhance current experiences while developing new events and activities targeting the specific needs of our community. The Parks and Recreation department consistently ensures kids in Douglasville have a variety of programs ranging from Digital Media Camp to Counselor in Training Programs to the various

day camps during school breaks. The city has also revamped and prioritized activities for 50 years and older, creating new events while highlighting existing programs offered weekly. These programs will further expand with the renovations happening at Jessie Davis Park, which includes a new dedicated senior center.

As the GreyStone Amphitheater and Douglasville Town Green near completion, City staff is working hard on several exciting events specifically designed for the new space. However, we also understand the vital role O’Neal Plaza plays in our downtown area. With that in mind, we are making intentional efforts to continue events and activities on O’Neal Plaza to support our

FIREWORKS ORDINANCE

Your guide to legal fireworks in the State of Georgia

STATE LAW

Per Georgia law (not Douglasville law) citizens can shoot fireworks without a permit

JULY 3 AND JULY 4

between the hours of 10:00 AM – 11:59 PM.

POLICE CALLS

Holidays, particularly the 4th of July, are among the busiest nights of the year for our police officers when they receive the most calls about DUIs and accidents, among other things. You can help keep the lines open for emergencies by not calling about fireworks between 10:00 AM – 11:59 PM, police officers will not be able to stop the fireworks.

KIND REMINDER

When planning your holiday activities with fireworks, we encourage you to practice kindness by keeping your neighbors in mind, especially those with young children or pets. Be mindful of the impact fireworks has on Veterans. A quick conversation with your neighbors could help them prepare for their needs.
