Play and Learn | Early Childhood Education I am doing my thesis on children and architecture. My basic intention is to promote an architecture that can create a dialogue with children and provide an alternate model of early childhood education i.e through informal activities. My focus is to encourage the children through playing, rather than teaching and forcing the kids to study in a traditional confined space, which in the long run ends up failing many students, as they can’t live up to such standards.

Manora island shares none of the vigour and rush of the port city. Unheeded it quickly went into decline and gradually cutting any connection with the main city, despite being a very important recreational site of Karachi with it rich historical and cultural background.

Climate Responsive Architecture | Finding sustainable building solutions for Karachi This thesis aims to implement various sustainable design solutions for Karachi’s issues, in response to climate change. The focus would particularly be on architectural design for creating a healthier environment by incorporating nature. A possible solution lies in reverting to our vernacular methods of construction, which respond to the context and climate and have been long forgotten due to advancements in technology.

art & science behind lighting design | Redefining Space through Light This research focuses on the role of architectural light in a space. How changes in light determines the user experience of a space. This study is based on the existing architectural knowledge of daylight integration required to determine its effects on the user(s) of the build environment. This study reports the changes in general well-being due to changes in the use and intensity of light. In order to do that, different spaces were studied to examine the role of natural light in its architectural design process.

Adaptable Architecture In today’s time, our functionally driven built-up spaces consume high amount of energy that has led to a considerable amount of increment in the carbon footprint. Our spaces can be planned more intelligently so as to facilitate different functions during the span of a day. This thesis aims to study how a building can be designed flexibly so as to be able to transform throughout the day in order for it to be utilized to its maximum potential.

Developing with earth Rural habitats, over the time have degraded severely. The major reason being soil erosion, which discouraged the construction methods that have been practiced for ages in the rural areas. Instead, people picked up easier and non-sustainable construction technique for building their homes, which are not suitable. The study aims to identify the problem in the adapted construction methods. Introducing vernacular techniques, satisfying the regional requirements. Along with finding sustainable and affordable methods for construction of the dwellings.

scrim Behind these white curtains lies a beauty that is meant to be hidden, beauty filled with unseen Power; Power to change every inch of the system. One who is celebrated, mourned, warned, heard, denied, strong, she is her a Suffragist, a crusader and sometimes an insurgent. She is in blood, the one who is in you and me. LOCATE / RELOCATE There’s always been a series of wraps and unpacks in my life. Moving in to Karachi from Punjab. And since have continuously moved homes. Building a connection or a bond to a space where you once live and the nostalgic feeling of moving to a new space and leaving the first behind, opens up a mixture of sentiments. With each move I keep missing a part of a familiar space I often think doors become veils to homes. Each has a distinct character speaking volumes of the people living there. It’s like a glimpse into another’s life. As the door stands watching decades pass, stories unfold, generations lived and passed away and moved by time, and yet it has seen stories that one can never tell. With each move I feel privy to the unseen presence and the unheard stories of the doors that are truly a witness to the yesteryears.

Childhood echoes As a child when I lived in an apartment I always had a feeling of being trapped. I just had a confined view of the outside world through the balcony. After some years I shifted to a house which had no balcony. I almost forgot the balconies and the memories associated with them. Years later, on my way home one day, I chanced to glimpse a balcony which looked exactly like the one from my childhood. Flashes from the past ran through my mind. The same balcony that I once felt imprisoned in, now fascinated me. I realised that I actually miss the feeling of being trapped.

NAQSH(AY) PERAHAN A dot builds up a connection with its surroundings. A connection that is through a line; only to appear in another world, to make its new connections. It is the same line that leads that dot to connect with others and form an identity. It travels repeatitively, as the surroundings slowly reveal on it; soon it notices the other familiar yet strange dots. There is a line, another line that is between them. Strange, that the dots are covered with numerous lines, a complex mesh of lines. These lines seem familiar; familiar with the pattern that continues wherever that dot moves.

core We tend to build a relationship between ourselves and our surrounding sites. The idea behind my project was derived from the relationship between construction and demolished sites. A demolished site is like a dead body for a long time until someone builds on it. Looking at by-products of these sites like rocks, concrete, metal plates etc, the plan was to convert those heavy pieces into delicate and fragile material so they can be unbelievably light in weight. It switches the relationship between the visual and its material and changes their existing identity.

I have always been a self-contained person captivated by the human psychology, but without the explanation it in common and such is my work. It involves an investigation into representations of jumbled thoughts and lost memoirs as well as depictions and ideas expressed through patterns that are a distinguish regularity and an arrangement of repeated parts. The obscure element is the underlying structure or a surface that arranges a grid in a consistent and regular manner, but it is used as a mere decoration that incorporates the structure, and pattern intellectually and in a colorful manner to engage the human mind which is strangely satisfied when able to discern a rhythm. I worked with variety of media, by applying interaction, abstraction and the repetitive sense conceptually engulfing the trait of overthinking, instructiveness of acceptance and refusal, attracting the viewer round and round in circles of the nostalgic flashes.

Thought vs. imagination Thought and Imagination are two words that are often confused due to the appeared similarity in their meanings. They have to be understood with difference. Thought refers to mental impression or a mental process that continues to happen unless it is controlled. On the other hand imagination is a voluntary thought that is made by an effort. This is the main difference between thought and imagination. It is important to note that the imagination has to come to an end at some point of time. On the other hand thoughts continue to occur until they are totally controlled.

Op art involves science, maths and art all in the same area. It creates images that are deceptive and misleading from the real image, but when it comes to fabric the reality is a bit different. Through out my thesis I have experimented with patterns and colors to explore and achieve a sense of possible illusion. I believe an elaborate study of Op Fabrics can open up more possibilities for the textile designers to work with.

KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE STARS In our childhood we used to listen tales about the stars that these stars live with other star friends in the sky. We often played this game by connecting one star to other and we make imaginary images and pattern. I worked with an inspiration on this game of connecting dots of stars and set of stars that create patterns in the sky. Therefore I attempt to draw sketches that can be used as a design element to create prints.

Transforming Multi-functional furniture Turning over a new leaf in furniture designs; mutating furniture which is minimal, practical, and functional while inspiring a variety of uses and configurations to encourage different activities. Multi-functional or mutating furniture is a smarter way to live more comfortably in a small dwelling. This mutating furniture can mutate from one size and form to another thus a fitting piece for urban dwellers having more friends than chairs.
