Revitalization of a lost trade -understanding the local culture of lohaar gali, and value additioning it. My thesis purpose was to understand the need and demand of local craftsmen. And understanding how design can help them, in enhancing their skills and crafts. I chooses lohaar Gali as my site which stretches one kilometer long, inhabiting artisans who are well-versed with different materials. I tried Identifying the problems faced by the local craftsmen and worked to eliminate them through area up gradation. My main objective was to Preserve their identity, Authenticity and culture through my design. And to symbolize the transition of our deep rooted heritage into modernity.

Form Follows Change - Bridging old and new architecture
Palimpsest In Architecture; Consequence of Destruction
Light weight brick structures, replaced by massive colonial palaces are now seen to be taken over by glass high rises. Architecture is always in a chrysalis state and seems to grow itself with time as a constant variable. The thesis aims to analyse different architecture styles prevalent in Karachi, creating a dialogue between the ‘Old’ and the ‘New’ form of architecture. Using an old building as a preconceived layer, the thesis seeks to bridge these styles on a single framework creating a dialogue between people, activities and architecture.
Architecture created in the wake of destruction to invoke dialogue over unexpected destruction; where memory - architectural embodiment of past objects and events, calls for a need to be retained in a way that respects the old and creates the new alongside. The activities that took place in a space pre-destruction and what happens post-destruction have an evident variation. This is a site based thesis where the concept and program are derived from the site-study.

Roadside Architecture - steering towards perceptive solutions for neglected spaces
Space Frame Mind -Redefining space through Sensory Architecture
The term “Roadside Architecture” that basically refers to the linked Architecture that is somehow connected in shaping the experience, outlook and utility of built environment features. In the Era of growing Urbanization, the idea of my thesis is to provide perceptive solutions for neglected spaces; mainly spaces under flyovers. Utilizing the maximum functions by employing Architectural interventions that serves as a catalyst for transformation in terms of bringing sense to a place or evolve a defined activity around the space that have been previously undefined. Enhancing the space perceptively and efficiently into a place that can add to the infra-structure and make an impact on the outlook of city and growing need of users.
Spaces we dwell in or use have a certain effect on our mind, which is due to the aura it encloses. So, constant use of space primes our mood, behavior and thoughts. To enhance and strengthen healthy effect on mind, we need sensory architecture to redefine spaces. Sensory design targets human senses to stimulate the effect, defining particular space. Therefore, the design helps in creating a rejuvenating experience which triggers spaces to treat mind. In our context, one such facility that requires immediate attention to improve the existing state are Jails. Sensory design holds the capacity to induce healthier effect in detention centers and reduce incarceration so that space frame mind.

breathing spaces (IEQ) Buildings are not normally percieved as a form of technology so the standards are set that are used to judge and influence new designs that how the environment within the buildings created and how that can be done in ways that provide greater connection with respect to the natural environment. Achieving indoor environment is all round problem alight by the thorough approach to the design construction and materials of the buildings by not only focusing on the physical skin of the building but the space inside. The concept of the project is concerning architectural synthesis with respect to the natural environment. So it is basically based on the passive designing that how important the circulation, natural air ventilation and orientation of the building is, to make it breathable.”

Inner Conflict The life of an individual is overshadowed by an inner turmoil that they keep to themselves because of society’s intolerance. My work focuses on such a burden. I believe in the need to voice it out, and show a visual of the inside happenings, that are often suppressed and unexploited under the burden of society; which suffocates one from within.. I chose this matter for it is what I see around me for some time and also because I am plagued by this ongoing struggle. The ones that manage to explain it are misunderstood and come across as dramatic, overly sentimental beings. My work is taking these feelings and giving them a comprehensible image. It helps one visualize and relate to their concealed emotions. Being aware of it occasionally takes us into unexplored or forgotten corridors of our mind. To make sense of which, it is essential to better understand the hazardous conflicts wreaking havoc within.

Being a crucial part of our daily lives, mirror stays stills while the reflection in it keeps changing due to the ever changing scenarios and people and objects moving to and away from it. what would happen if some particular reflection stays still within the mirror ? Working with found archival mirrors, I’m using the worn down mirrors to reveal the hidden narrative behind the mirror that reflects the personality of the individuals who spent their time in front of it. just like a glitch in a video these photographic stills are scratched in the mirror and narrate the possible view that was seen through the eye of the mirror.

Organic forms My work is exploration of organic forms through observation of natural forms that grow and transform. Specially those that are created by animals, sea structures fascinates me alot because sea animals create them by making a layer over layer and through this process it creates a strong structure around themselves to protect themselves. They are barnacles and other shells which are formed through this process. It heals and help my thoughts to develop and increased my performance on creativity.

Child Drawings With print design as my major, I have used child drawings to develop my designs. I started with collecting drawings of children aging 3 - 6 years and then using them to create visually minimal compositions that are largely applicable in home textiles and accessories. The idea was to use child art in its most original form, covering all its four stages (scribbling, pre-symbolism, symbolism and realism.) My color palette range from pastels to traces of bright colors that add balance and give a visual appeal.

IRIS
Owl
The inspiration for my thesis project is IRIS (colored part of an eye). Why I selected this topic is just because colored eyes always inspired me and I used to notice its variations. Just because this small and single circular part contains lot of colors, textures, structures and patterns in it. I studied iris very deep inside to play with its zoomed filamentous structures and also focused on the reflections captured by iris which I further used to create unique textile prints and explored my inspiration through various techniques like fabric manipulation, screen printing, embroideries, embellishments and a lot more.
Owls are birds from the order Strigiformes, which have a large, broad head, binocular vision, binaural hearing, sharp talons, and feathers adapted for silent flight.I choose two different types of owls i.e barn owl and the great horned owl, which both has different features and body,my focus point is to play with their beautiful feathers, face respectively and their big glowing eyes and giving them a different way exploring a silky and velvety fabric touches. owls are viewed as harbingers of bad luck, ill health, or death. The belief is widespread even today but The modern West generally associates owls with wisdom. Worked on textile prints majorly and tries to explore my best skills with the autumn and earthy tone palette for the very first time adding a touch with my realistic sketches and details. I designed prints majorly for home textiles as i wanted to explore its beauty and significant features through my skills and ideas, my passion for owl is increasing day by day and its truly love choosing this topic from all.

Chabi My thesis is inspired by the traditional household item which is commonly known as “Chaabi” or “Chaabrhi”. It is hand-woven by village women in Pakistan. Hand-dyed strips of date palm leaves are tightly wrapped around primary coils (bundles) of reed. The design/patterns and colors are mostly taken from the crops around punjab province. Choosing weaving as a thesis major, I’ve incorporated the designs/patterns and the bold colors of punjab into rugs and runners.

chamaleon skin textures I looked around to take inspiration from nature as it always inspires me. The topic I have selected after going through many others is Chameleon and iguana’s skin textures as I have always wanted to explore texture techniques in textile medium and the skin of chameleon and iguanas is full of beautiful textures and patterns and eye catching contrasting colors. Since there are more than 160 species of chameleon, I have worked on 4 species in order to contain my color palette, which are Panther chameleon, Veiled chameleon, Carpet chameleon and Iguana green. I have explored the skins of these species and incorporated it into the textiles mainly through surface techniques and manipulations.
The Beetles To most eyes, these interpretations might seem tenuous; generally adhered towards a colorful, fun and youthful feel. But look closely at the surface detail and you could see how the stretched patterns, encrusted metallic sequins and puzzle-piece motifs express a certain neo-futurist edge (laced with humor)—especially when rendered in black, white, and gold. And soon you will discover a whole new dimension altogether, a universe collectively ruled by “The Beetles”. The idea behind this whole topic was to take something that is generally considered repulsive and transforming it into something beautiful and approachable by working out the exquisite details, anatomy and patterns of the beetles into various art forms and compositions.

Banjaran - Artwork are a novel expression that speaks to a society, trade craftsmanship and specialties. Banjara culture is so rich. Its attractive and best way to promote its culture and traditional. The reason im inspired by this culture is its known for their brightly colored clothing and elaborate ornaments, which makes them easily identifiable in crowd. Banjara embroidery makes extensive use of mirrors, wood beads, cowries shells and other as sorted objects. These embroidered clothes have multiple uses, including clothing. Rangoli , textile embroidery, tattooing, painting. For me inspiration is never a problem-it’s the execution of the inspiration that’s difficult. To get inspired and feel excited about an idea is the easiest part. So i decided to play with this culture by my own way in the media of digital. I being a designer like to promote such art. It is a very rare art that is still a baby. This art has a lot of creative people coming together and creating something vibrant and new. So use of cynosure color , which ornates and adorns the body of every woman, is employed as a bold accent on the vibrant colored backgrounds of the textiles. 26 | DOVS Graduate Directory

I have used screen printing, batik and digital printing on silk as my main techniques and I also have explored some materials of embellishments on fabrics such as velvet , jute, etc. The products I have suggested are apparels such as gowns and contemporary tops with different cuts.

“HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR MONEY?
Hookah/Sheesha
I like my money right where i can see it, hanging in my closet.”- Carrie Bradshaw
Inspiration can come from anywhere. When I was first introduced to sheesha I got attracted to its design, its colorful appearance so i choose hookah/sheesha as my topic. I want to use hookah as a design and don’t want to restrict it to smoking only. I’ve used many techniques just to present my design element in different ways like screen printing, machine and hand embroidery, digital design, dyes etc.
My work is inspired by the above dialogue from movie Sex and the City , cause that is something very much we do in our lives spending our money on the things we admire, and the thing i am admiring my money over is clothing, prints and patterns with all very vibrant and vivacious colors . My thesis is therefore an attempt to somehow replicate the elements and motifs taking from the Pakistani rupees into prints and creating a design on the whole.

Pomegranate, as design element
For my thesis project I took inspiration from rocks. The process began with studying each intricate detail and behavior of rocks and understanding them through sketches. I worked with an inspiration from pomegranate for my thesis project. The process began with studying each intricate detail in its anatomy and understanding them through sketches and developing with designs and different textile techniques. I did not visualize pomegranate as a fruit but a design element as in the history it had become more of a cultural symbol than a food which was depicted consistently in art, literature, religion and mythology throughout the decades, painted on walls and tombs, carved in furnishers etc.

Khess
Snake shedded Skin
Khess is a thick cotton fabric of Sindh and Punjab used as a spread or as bedding. It is a handmade fabric woven with geometric patterns used very commonly in earlier days. But with the advancement in technology the power looms have replaced the handlooms and like some other crafts Khess has also become a dying craft. My thesis is an attempt to revive Khess, using multiple techniques of fabric construction. I have designed contemporary Khess mainly in cotton material but have also experimented materials like silk, polyester and wool. Various color palettes have been explored in the process of sampling to cover a variety of styles, to be used in home textiles. The products suggested are throws and upholstery yardage fabric.
Snakes shed their skin almost every year. As a art student i would like to find and explore the feel and texture of that sheded skin so my work is on th exploration of textures and scales and transparency of snake skin my using textile materials.

I have always been inspired to do something different and when I looked around to find inspiration, I came up with some great ideas, but of all these, the one that appealed to me the most was steel, when I started research and explore the usage of steel in textile industry, I got amazed that how can steel serve this industry. Steel yarn has its own rich history; it was used in the making of clothes for Kings. Apart from the history I am seeing its great benefits in current era. I found different motives and possibilities in my design elements such as textures, steel rust, colors, and surface etc. It has some common use in electric and textile industries as anti-radiation clothes, thermal resistance and anti static brushes. Steel yarn are braided, woven and knit into many industrial usages. The techniques I used are quilting, screen printing, digital printing, embroidery, weaving, marbling, fabric manipulation, rust dye, butter paper, foil and acramine.

Justuju - An illustrated book of Ginans
Naqsh Nagar - Promoting sindhi Arts and crafts
The Ismailis regard Ginans as sacred devotional poetry sang to guide and inspire them in their individual and communal lives. But currently, the disinterest of teenage Ismaili kids in this literature is attributed mainly towards language gap, monotony in plain books, unreflective methods failing to inspire them to understand Ginans. In this scenario, my refreshing spatial take at creating illustrated book of Ginans are a step towards appealing and facilitating these young members of my Jamat in the understading of Ginans.
Naqsh Nagar is a platform that promotes Sindhi arts and crafts. Our guest rooms and offices today are filled with showpieces of international monuments and their arts, but there is a significant absence of our own beautiful and traditional crafts in our living rooms. This is the vacuum that Naqsh Nagar fills by promoting rich Sindhi traditional crafts all over Pakistan. For years Sindh has been on this part of the world and now through online mediums, it is high time to ensure presence of these beautiful arts and crafts. Naqsh Nagar is an idea of a system of social entrepreneurship through which scalable businesses can be generated with economical support to local artisans and promotion of Sindhi culture can be done simultaneously.

Oblivion Through different phases of life people let society tell them what they’re worth and tries to mould them into something they’re not. They force people to do things that are socially acceptable rather than having them to think for themselves and then do what is right and what is better for themselves and the people around them. Society has basically forced people into thinking that questioning something that you feel should be questioned, is inappropriate and is not acceptable so nobody is ready to raise a voice and ask those questions out in public. My idea is to now ponder over the experiences of my life and question all the things that I used to ask myself throughout these different phases of life like school, college and now, and somehow be able to put them out there for everyone to see and then think because I know there are people like me who needs a little push to be able to take action. The idea is to break free and not be another brick in the wall. Most importantly for parents to get more involved into their children’s lives and not just wait for a Parents and Teachers meeting day to know them. I hope to achieve this in the form of a Graphic Novel. DOVS Graduate Directory | 37

It is impossible for a culture to exist or survive without its language. The core element of any society is its language as it shapes its culture. The revival of Urdu language while deterring the use of Roman and Hindi words with Urdu in our daily routine is the prime insight of my thesis. For this purpose I have designed ‘Lajawaab’ an extensive mobile game/application that falls under the category of educational apps. It has a set of different activities that improves the user’s Urdu when played. I’ve kept my focus primarily on kids and in general Pakistanis of every age that has access to smart phones for a better learning of Urdu language.
Humans need a sense of security and that comes when there is a strong bond between a parent and a child. Nowadays, people prioritize non valuable desires over that special feeling of love and affection between the parents and their child. Both the child and the parent are busy in their lives due to different reasons. With so much going on every day, they really need to connect as a family and strengthen the bond while sitting around a table and spending a good quality time together. So why not take out some time and pull out a board game and have fun playing with your family.

A deaf person tries to communicate with others through different mediums but the main mode of communication for a deaf person is sign language which most of the people do not understand. I believe that the problem lies between us normal people who are unable to understand their language hence, communication becomes difficult for them during work, travel as well as daily interaction. To overcome this problem, i have designed an app called “Deaf Talk”. This app would work as a communicator between the two communities. It has three main features; A translator, through which they will be able to translate their message from sign language to any other language and vice versa. Secondly, a messenger; this feature would make it easier for them to have one on one conversation with others. Lastly, tutorials; this feature would have tutorials of basic words in sign language for the ones who want to learn.

Promotion of Sports in youth
Learning Disability
A healthy nation is always a wealthy nation. Therefore, it is necessary to put emphasis on sports. One can think of a healthy mind only in a healthy body. Both physical and mental well being are the prerequisites of great achievements in life. Sports activities and alternative recreational activities might bring a positive modification in Pakistani society and it’ll even be useful in anti social activities from society Sport can provide a positive image of the nation to the international community sport can positively contribute to strengthening national pride and forming a cohesive national identity., Pakistan Badminton academy (PBA) is the beginning of a larger promise to the sports enthusiasts in society.
Why some kids have real difficulty in acquiring basic academic skills, performing daily task and why they show problem in reading, writing, listening, speaking and/or math? Do we really try to find out or look around that what might that child going through? The child might be having “Learning Disability†and going through some tough time, and some of us know what to do with this situation, while mostly does not, and to covering up that gap, I made this application, “Learn to Assist†, which will help users to learn about learning disability and what is it and what are the symptoms and their types.

Gaming in Pakistan Pakistan today is a major player within the global gaming industry. Our native gamers have great potential and talent for which they should be supported, but unfortunately they don’t own enough insight and resources to compete in tournaments on international level. For this purpose I am introducing a “Gaming Arena” with different branches in various cities of Pakistan arranging competitive intercity gaming tournaments throughout the year. A tournament every month. The winners of the tournaments will be given an opportunity to participate and play at popular international level competitions held every year which will be assisted and sponsored by the arena.

Little Jitters - because they matter
Reviving Oz - Book cover Redesign
Between the age of 4 and 6, a child may go through a number of anxious periods as he responds to changes in his environment or routine. An unattended childhood anxiety affects the individual in his adolescence. It can lead to problems such as substance abuse, phobias, depression and suicidal behavior. As people are not much aware about Childhood Anxiety, I have designed a social media campaign backed up by a website “Little Jitters”. The website provides complete knowledge about what is childhood anxiety, the symptoms which goes unnoticed, and home remedies to help a child with his anxieties.
Fresh covers give new life to the books, and make them look more inviting to readers. My aim is to make the classics look appealing and less intimidating to younger readers, who are put off by old and dull book covers , but might reconsider them with a splash of new contemporary design on its cover.

Asani App
Boosting Creativity in kids
I wish to create an app that lets you have an access to people that you get dependent upon when stuck in certain situations for example: car mechanic, plumber, electrician etc. the idea is to basically find your location and get these local vendors to come to you from the nearest location. These vendors get increased business through this and the general public gets to save their time and have their problems solved.
Creativity can be defined as a skill or ability to turn imaginations or ideas into reality. Creativity is the most essential element for a successful life, but we don’t realize that while nurturing our kids in this systematic world, they lose their creativity when they grow up. even though we should always appreciate them and boost their creativity by encourage whatever they do. And for this purpose I have designed a series of illustrated motivational storybooks in Urdu language. The stories are based on the essence of creativity found in every child. Events which take place in the stories are relatable to the children in our local society.

Criticism Criticism is the intolerance of ideas, behaviors, actions and etc put into words. It can cause extreme destructive results for the targeted person’s mental and emotional stability but when it’s wellintentioned, well-calibrated, and especially when offering a valid, constructive solution, I believe, it’s a fine gift. The campaign “For better or for worse” awares us to evaluate our own criticism towards someone, being positive or negative, showcasing the results of both types so we pick and choose the way we criticize, the way we think is better. It suggests a different tone and expressions of criticism and how negative aspects could be avoided to make your comment more meaningful and improving.

The heart of this recycle bin system is making people responsible for their trash by disposing recyclable refuse to the desired bin, promoting a sense of general awareness for recycling and waste segregation.
Karachi is a very complex city, in terms of transportation. One of the leading problem is the ratio of vehicle ownership to the amount of traffic on roads. If every person owns a vehicle it may sound good but it populate our roads heavily. With my proposed scooto rental system. Commuting problems along with traffic problems are being addressed primarily. Whilst pollution, maintainance and parking issues are also being addressed as a biproduct. Last but not the least this system is for everyone, means gender free.

Compact Schooling Pakistan is among the most densely populated countries of the world . Currently over 180 million people reside here making it the 6th most populous country of the world . The overall literacy rate has always been a huge concern here . Pakistan has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world and Pakistan stands at 160th in total countries of the world . The basic idea is to create a compact schooling system for the wider provision of education and its convenience in our society . There are 24 million boys and girls out of school that’s nearly half of all children in the country.45% of government schools are in a dangerous or dilapidated condition and lack basic facilities such as furniture, bathrooms, boundary walls, electricity and running water. .Compact schooling bag may provide convenience to all the children of our society to persue school education specially to those who are deprived of it and are educated through Non Governmental Organizations and also to those government schools who are deprived of the basic facilities.

He stumbles upon a realization that something somewhere in his life went very wrong, and he needs to fix the mess in order to achieve all that he is looking for.
