Change of Heart
Faith and Finance by Cary Fisher
A
s Christians, we believe that God created the earth and everything that is in it. Therefore, we certainly should thank God for every good thing that is in our lives, and we can have trust that God will always provide for our needs. In October, we are starting a new small group series called Faith and Finance. During this study, we will be reminded that the way we relate to money reflects on how much we trust in God.
Did you know that one of every seven verses in the book of Luke and eleven of Jesus’ thirty-nine parables talk about money? God cares for us in all aspects of our lives, and since money is such an important part of it, we should not be surprised. As we rely on the Bible to give us great wisdom on how to have a spiritually healthy view on finances, I believe our lives will have a greater sense of peace and purpose. During our small
group series, we will discuss many spiritual and practical principles on finances. For example, one of our biggest spiritual and financial issues that seems to plague many of us starts by not knowing the difference between our wants and our needs. As we convince ourselves that we need certain things that are just really things that we want, we begin to have a sense that we are lacking something. In actuality, God gives us everything we need, and continued on page 2
Faith & Finance Small Groups
O
ur next small group’s adventure for the Downey-Florence Seventh-day Adventist Church begins October 10. We are spending six weeks going through lessons titled Faith and Finance. Faith and Finance is a small group seminar series created by the North American Division of the Seventh-
day Adventist Church. During this time, we hope to have a better understanding on how our spirituality is affected by the way we relate to money. The topic of money is discussed more that 2000 times in scripture and as we learn God’s principles as it relates to finances, we will be better prepared to follow his will for our lives. =

October 17 - Looking at Giving - Peace of mind comes when God is in control of our lives. After all, Proverbs 11:24 says, “One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want”. We demonstrate that God is in charge of our finances by our tithe and offerings, and therefore, we can have
a financial peace mind which can be very elusive to our world today. October 24 - Dealing with Debt - In our third installment of our Faith and Finance small group series, we will talk about how slavery is very much still with us today. Proverbs 22:7 writes, “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is a servant to the lender.” While we live in a time where it is so easy to be in debt, we need to protect ourselves from being enslaved by mortgaging our future so we can live beyond our means today. continued on page 3 The Latest Word V 27 N 10 BILL AUMACK

October 31 - Honesty, Integrity and Work - The Bible says, “for the love of money is the root of all evil” (I Timothy 6:10). Love for money will reveal a person’s character, and this sermon talks about the importance of how character matters in all things especially as it relates to our finances. See you when the church gathers. =

Abundant Giving
G
od has been so good to us, individually and corporately. His blessings have been too numerous to count. God is good! We also know that you can’t out give God. We are going to have a series of opportunities to give toward some special
projects. Some of those projects will be around the church, some will be in our local community and some will have a broader reach. These special projects will give us the opportunity to give above and beyond our normal giving and live a life that is gener-
ous. Our first project will be to replace our very old sprinkler system. We need approximately $10,000 for this project. Please consider this special project and mark your offerings “Building Fund.” =
