2019

No Smoking or Use of Electronic Cigarettes 24 years of Beer! 24 years of education! 24 years of YOU, the thirst beer lovers of Eastern Iowa helping raise over a $350,000.00 for local charities, all by simply attending a little festival. Thank you! We couldn’t have done it without! We’ve grown, we’ve expanded, we’ve pushed to bring bier to the streets of the Northside, and all along it’s been YOU, that have supported us, and made our support of so many wonderful charities along the way possible. Children’s Miracle Network, Variety Club, Iowa City Hospice, American Heart Association, and for the past 7 years, hundreds of smaller charities, from Youth Groups to Conservation groups, YOUR thirst has been the engine that has powered this mighty little festival for good. This was true that first year and has been a constant every year since.

LAGER

Fermented and then “Lagered” meaning stored cool at low temperatures, very crisp and clean. Malt for the backbone, hops to preserve, water and yeast.

Golden Copper in color, medium bodied, strong citrus and hop flavor as well as floral notes.

Now we have over 100 breweries in Iowa alone making world-class beer, who would have seen that back in y2K? Who would have thought that ciders, meads, and seltzers would be leading the charge in 2019? Who would have thought that the world classic Imports, all but dead 2 years ago, would be poised to make a comeback? The more things change, the more they stay the same. That’s one of our tag lines at John’s Grocery, and for the past 71 years, we’ve been trying to keep ahead of the game in listing to you, so that we can offer the things that YOU want to see. Brewfest is no different if you have ideas that would make the festival better, we’re all ears!

the beer to your heart desires, but we want to keep you and those around you safe. Everyone can come in and enjoy the festival, but only those with tickets and wristbands can drink. If your designated driver gets thirsty, buy them a mug for soda samples on N Linn St.

IPA

But times are a-changing, and the bier industry is trying to keep up. What was hot yesterday is growing cobwebs today. I remember when I said, “Imagine when Guinness becomes a mainstream beer.” That was in 1995 at the inaugural Brewfest. Oh, how times have changed!

Prost! Doug “the Bier Guy”

The Do’s and Don’ts of the Northside Oktoberfest DO assign a designated driver. We want you to enjoy all

Dark brown, rich and complex. Smooth, toasty malt flavor with caramel and chocolate notes.

bring the whole family. There is no age requirement for having fun, but remember, only 21+ get to drink. A valid ID will be required for wristbands.

DO

behave accordingly. We want everyone to enjoy themselves with all that Oktoberfest has to offer. If things get out of hand, you will be asked to leave the event.

DO

check the morning weather report. Rain or shine the event will take place. Come prepared for whatever Mother Nature decided to throw our way!

DO

get yourself a pretzel necklace! It’s the best way to say to the world “Hey I’m here to have fun!” Plus, how else are you going to cleanse your palate? Get creative and make it a statement piece.

DON’T

drop your glass. You are given ONE complimentary glass when you enter the event. IF you break it, you need to clean it up with a provided broom and dustpan and you can buy a new one from the glass station.

DON’T smoke. Smoking (including electronic

cigarettes) in the Oktoberfest area is not permitted by state and city law. If you must smoke, mosey over to an area outside of the festival.

DON’T take alcohol outside of the festival area. You don’t want to find out what happens when you do!

DON’T drink on an empty stomach. Stay hydrated!

There are plenty of delicious restaurants in the downtown area to prepare your stomach for an afternoon of drinking.
