2018
Time flies when you’re having fun! 2018 marks the 23rd installment of the Iowa City Brewfest. This will be our 7th year here in the historic Northside Neighborhood, and the 70th Year of my family serving you here at John’s. Like our store, our neighborhood and our town, we keep growing, we keep changing, but our traditions and values still hold true. We’ve got all your old favorites, but we’ve got the new up-and-comers. The historic and traditional breweries are here who have been around for quite a while – centuries for a few. We also have new breweries that are pushing the envelope of what is possible in the brewing process. We are all benefactors of both ends of this amazing brewing spectrum. Seven short years ago, Iowa had just a handful of breweries when we moved our traveling Brewfest to our home here in the heart of 19th century Iowa City brewing district. Today, our state has over 83 breweries producing some of the best-crafted beer in the world! From around the block to around the world, we’ve expanded our beers that we carry and feature here because of YOU! You the loyal bier lover, you the aficionado, you the novice just starting in on the wonderful world of bier, you are the one we say THANK YOU to for making this such an amazing event. The days are long, but when our little neighborhood fills up with so many new faces and so many old friends, it makes it all worth it. Thank you for your continued enthusiasm. Stay thirsty my friends! Prost! Doug “the bier guy” Alberhasky

The Do’s and Don’ts of the Northside Oktoberfest DO assign a designated driver. We want you to enjoy all the beer to
your heart desires, but we want to keep you and those around you safe. Everyone can come in and enjoy the festival, but only those with tickets and wristbands can drink. If your designated driver gets thirsty, buy them a mug for soda samples on N Linn St.
DO
bring the whole family. There is no age requirement for having fun, but remember, only 21+ get to drink. A valid ID will be required for wristbands.
DO
behave accordingly. We want everyone to enjoy themselves with all that Oktoberfest has to offer. If things get out of hand, you will be asked to leave the event.
DO
check the morning weather report. Rain or shine the event will take place. Come prepared for whatever Mother Nature decided to throw our way!
DO
get yourself a pretzel necklace! It’s the best way to say to the world “Hey I’m here to have fun!” Plus, how else are you going to cleanse your palate? Get creative and make it a statement piece.
DON’T drop your glass. You are given ONE complimentary glass
when you enter the event. IF you break it, you need to clean it up with a provided broom and dustpan and you can buy a new one from the glass station.
DON’T smoke. Smoking (including electronic cigarettes) in the Oktoberfest area is not permitted by state and city law. If you must smoke, mosey over to an area outside of the festival.
DON’T take alcohol outside of the festival area. You don’t want to find out what happens when you do!
DON’T drink on an empty stomach. Stay hydrated! There are
plenty of delicious restaurants in the downtown area to prepare your stomach for an afternoon of drinking.
been there!
