Why York? What made you decide to move here or stay here?

I moved from Puerto Rico to York City with my family in 1961 when my father purchased a medical practice on Madison Avenue. The York Community embraced and welcomed us from the onset!

York City will forever hold a special place in my heart. It was my first home in Pennsylvania, I began my education in York City at Madison Elementary School, worked for several years at the Spanish American Center in Downtown York, and lived in the city as an adult. My church, First Presbyterian Church, is also located in York City. I am in York City every week for meetings, community events, and to enjoy entertainment and support our amazing restaurants. I ❤️ York City!

What about York's past and present or future inspires you?

The people and history of York have always inspired me. For York City's slogan to be "Historically Edgy" is a perfect description, as it encompasses our past and our future. We have always had a very devoted and committed community. We are honoring the legacy and history of our community, but also moving forward, adapting and watching new community leaders coming to the forefront and working with longtime residents.

I am excited about the revitalization of Downtown York. It's thrilling for me to see the diversity of our Downtown and the multicultural events taking place. There is something for everyone. Events such as Second Friday Latino add to this wonderful mosaic of international celebrations. I'm looking forward to the Yorktowne Hotel reopening and future events in this historic building.

What has been your proudest moment while in Downtown York?

My proudest moment while in Downtown York was on September 22, 2019. The 200 block of East Princess Street was dedicated to my parents - Dr. Edwin and Mrs. Delma Rivera. It is an incredible honor York City recognized their social and racial justice work and their dedication to the Latino Community. My parents were devoted to York City.
