WELCOME FROM OUR SPONSOR

SunTrust is proud to sponsor what may be the most stellar season yet of SunTrust Broadway at DPAC! Whether this is your first SunTrust Broadway visit, or you’re a long-time season seat member, we’re delighted to welcome you to this exciting performance. SunTrust understands that that the arts are essential to the quality of life in the communities we serve. The performing arts in particular have the power to inspire, entertain, inform, thrill and unite us in a communal experience. We value our ongoing partnership with DPAC, which has proven to be an extraordinary artistic and economic force in our region, forever setting a high bar on quality that it meets and exceeds season after season. Helping people gain personal confidence about their finances is SunTrust’s passion and our purpose. Did you know that 75% of Americans report that their finances are their primary source of stress? SunTrust recognized that this is a silent epidemic that had to be addressed. In 2016, we launched the onUp Movement to offer everyone – SunTrust clients or otherwise – a way to take the first steps toward financial confidence. Escaping financial stress frees you to enjoy what is most important. We encourage you to join the Movement at onUp.com, where you’ll find tips, resources and challenge games to launch your journey to a life well-spent. But for tonight, sit back, and enjoy the show!

Christopher J. Bell SunTrust Region President, Triangle East

WELCOME FROM THE MAYOR The traditional tenth anniversary gift is aluminum or tin, but that just does not seem fitting to celebrate a place that has delivered nothing but platinum for Durham for the last decade. As Durham’s mayor, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Durham Performing Arts Center. My wife and I have been season ticket holders in DPAC’s Broadway series since it opened in 2008, and like DPAC’s more than 4 million guests, I continue to marvel at the caliber of performances showcased in our great city. Each year just gets better and better. For example, more than 480,000 visitors walked the red carpet last year to attend award-winning musicals, such as Les Misérables, The Color Purple, and sold-out concerts including David Byrne, Anita Baker and Jerry Seinfeld. In addition, this past fall, DPAC hosted 32 sold-out performances of the Tony® award-winning musical HAMILTON. That’s not all. While providing entertainment that families can enjoy together is a top priority for DPAC, finding ways to involve those who may not otherwise enjoy all that the arts have to offer has become a special passion for this theater. Last year, DPAC hosted its second “sensory-friendly” theatrical performance for children with autism. No doubt, the arts contribute to Durham’s sense of community.Your attendance enables DPAC to support other nonprofit arts groups, such as the Durham Arts Council and the Hayti Heritage Center. DPAC also cultivates the arts in education by arranging visits from touring cast members to local schools through Heart of the Arts, and not to mention donating hundreds of tickets each year to schools and local charities to use for auctions and fundraising. DPAC is constantly working to ensure that the arts touch many areas of Durham and, indeed, the entire Triangle community. A visit to DPAC is an open invitation to experience Durham—from great awardwinning restaurants to shopping and culture. It’s as easy as parking and either walking, biking or taking the bus to downtown eateries, or taking a short drive to nearby malls, museums or historical sites. If you stay the night, downtown hotels are here to welcome you with open arms. Milestone anniversaries are often the result of great partnerships, and DPAC is no different. Since the very beginning, the facility’s manager Nederlander/PFM has been responsible for bringing Tony®-winning Broadway shows to Durham, making DPAC a source of local, regional and national pride. If the first ten years indicate what’s to come, then buckle your seatbelts! Thank you for choosing DPAC and Durham. Now settle into your seats to enjoy your DPAC experience and an unforgettable show! Sincerely,

Mayor Steve Schewel

WELCOME FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER Welcome to DPAC! We’re glad you are here. The team here recently celebrated our tenth birthday. It was a milestone that had us looking back on hosting over 2,000 events, entertaining over 4 million guests - generating an economic impact for Durham of over $658 million. I was DPAC’s first employee. I started in January of 2008, about ten months before the center opened. When I first started, I had no office and worked out of a Starbucks in Downtown Durham that had a good Wi-Fi connection. One of my first tasks as General Manager was to recruit the original management team. We started with ten full-time staff members; since then, the staff has doubled in size as the number of annual events has tripled from our first season. Special recognition goes to Rachel Traversari and Josh Anderson, who were part of the original staff and have grown into roles as senior leaders within our organization. The success that DPAC has does not just happen. It takes hundreds of full-time, parttime and volunteer staff members, and many more at The Nederlander Organization, Professional Facilities Management and the City of Durham’s elected officials and staff with whom we work closely in the operation of DPAC. I extend my thanks to everyone that has played a part in DPAC being ranked among the top five theaters in the country every year. This past October we received what may be our greatest recognition, being named as Theater of the Year by IEBA (International Entertainment Buyers Association), a trade association made of venue managers, agents, and event promoters. This recognition is a source of pride for Durham and the region: there were a total of seven theaters nominated with the six other nominees in the much larger markets of Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. We’re always proud to share the accolades, awards and top rankings we achieve at DPAC, because we also want to thank you, our loyal guests, who have made this possible. Thank you for choosing to join us at this performance, and thank you for a fantastic first ten years. Sincerely,

Bob Klaus General Manager

WHO’S WHO ANTHONY RUSSO (Foreman) At 15 years old, Anthony went to an 18+ Equity audition for Anything Goes at The MUNY in St Louis, MO and booked the gig. That experience set the tone for the years to follow. He once crashed an agent-only audition for Cirque Du Soleil with a smiley face drawn on paper as a headshot and booked the gig. It was this sheer will to perform that also landed him his first touring contract in 2001. Russo left high school just before the start of his senior year and joined the 6th national tour of Tap Dogs. As a courtesy to the performers and other audience members, DPAC asks that you do not rush for the exits prematurely at the end of the performance. We understand the lobby gets busy and the parking lots can be tricky, but please remain in your seats until the houselights come up.

AVOID SCALPERS Don’t purchase tickets from Internet scalpers! At DPAC, we’re tired of seeing unauthorized ticket brokers take advantage of DPAC ticket buyers. Don’t be fooled by online websites who mimic DPAC’s name or website and offer tickets they might not even have. You will always pay more, will rarely get the seats they advertise, and you may even receive counterfeit tickets.

Go directly to DPACnc.com or to Ticketmaster.com; type it in yourself, rather than using an online search. These are the only OFFICIAL ONLINE TICKETING PROVIDERS for events at DPAC.

If you do use a search engine, look for the official DPAC website www.DPACnc.com. Only our authentic venue site is allowed to be labeled as “official.”

“Speculative Listing” is when unofficial sellers list tickets for sale even though they do not actually have those tickets. They are betting they can trick you into buying tickets, often in seat locations you may not really want and at a price much higher than what others are paying for the same seats. For more information about speculative ticketing, visit this warning from Ticketmaster: https://insider.ticketmaster.com/spec-ticketing/

Avoid unsecured purchases from fraudulent and misleading online ticket brokers. Don’t overpay for your tickets. For the best prices and best selection, always go directly to DPACnc.com or Ticketmaster.com and BUY DIRECT!

EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH Making a Difference in Our Community

Since 2008, DPAC’s community outreach program Heart of the Arts has been making connections between the shows DPAC presents on our stage, local students and non-profit organizations. Through Heart of the Arts, DPAC coordinates master classes led by touring Broadway cast and crew members for Durham students interested in the performing arts. Students and their teachers have told us that DPAC’s educational outreach events are among their school year’s highlights. The chance to interact with Broadway theater professionals is inspiring; they provide real-world insights and offer students a once-in-a-lifetime experience. New this year, DPAC’s Heart of the Arts team has started the Performing Arts Ambassador program. The diversity of what is offered at DPAC will be revealed to high school students passionate about the arts through this yearround program and they will acquire a behind-the-scenes look at the events at one of the top five theaters in America. These up-close experiences will not only help students realize the importance of the arts, but also allow them to share their insights and experiences with teens throughout the region via social media.

DPAC has hosted over 2,000 performances and had over four million guests through our doors. TRIANGLE RISING STARS CELEBRATING THE BEST OF HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL TALENT IN OUR REGION

DPAC is proud to present the ninth annual Triangle Rising Stars (TRS) competition sponsored by Marchael Bayne. Triangle Rising Stars is the regional qualifying event for The National High School Musical Theatre Awards™ (NHSMTA). NHSMTA is a national competition that celebrates outstanding student performances in high school musical productions across the United States.Triangle Rising Stars brings together high school musical theater students from Durham, the Triangle and the surrounding region to perform and compete for a chance to represent DPAC in the national finals in New York City each summer. A team of judges from DPAC, Duke University, ABC 11, Carolina Theatre and other arts and performance professionals attend area high school musical productions throughout the school year. Twenty finalists are then selected to rehearse and compete with the best of their peers, culminating in a live performance at the Triangle Rising Stars Showcase and Awards show at DPAC each May. This year, six awards will be presented during the live ceremony: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Dancer, Best Ensemble, Triangle Shining Star (congeniality award), and The Marchael Bayne Award for Best Musical. The students awarded Best Actress and Best Actor each receive $2,000 academic scholarships and are invited on an all-expenses-paid trip to the NHSMTA program in New York City in June at Nederlander’s Minskoff Theatre, home for Disney’s The Lion King.

62

About NHSMTA – The National High School Musical Theatre Awards™ (NHSMTA) was established in 2009 to elevate the importance of theatre arts education in schools and reward excellence in student performance. The program impacts over 50,000 students annually who participate in high school musical theatre competitions sponsored by thirty professional theatres throughout the US. Also known as The Jimmy® Awards, named for Broadway impresario James M. Nederlander, this yearround program is administered by The Broadway League Foundation Inc.

Please visit DPACnc.com/TRS for more information on Triangle Rising Stars. More information on NHSMTA and The Jimmy Awards can be found at jimmyawards.com.

Special thanks to Marchael Bayne and our community partners and judges for participating!

GUEST ETIQUETTE At DPAC, we’re committed to Guest Courtesy. Please remember to be a good neighbor to those seated around you. IT CAN WAIT.

Please save texting until AFTER the show. The light from phones is distracting to others throughout the theater. Please keep them turned off.

QUIET PLEASE.

Once the show starts, please let the stage be the center of attention. We ask that you turn off all phones and limit conversation. If children are attending this performance with you, please exit the theater immediately if they become restless or talkative.

CAMERAS / RECORDING

Photography and video recording is prohibited. All electronic devices (cell phones, smart phones, tablets, digital cameras) must be turned off before the start of the show. Cameras with detachable lenses are never allowed into the building, and for some shows no cameras of any kind are allowed, including small point-and-shoot cameras.

ENTERING AND EXITING THE SEATING AREA

Please time your exit and re-entry to the seating area to occur only at intermission or breaks between songs. This is a courtesy to other guests around you who will appreciate you keeping these disruptions to a minimum.

IT’S SUPERSTAR ENTERTAINMENT, NOT A FOOD FEST Small snacks and drinks are welcome in the seating area, but as a courtesy to those around you, eat and drink as quietly as possible. Please know that odors and noisy wrappers can disturb others. We also ask that you finish sandwiches or other large food items before entering the seating area.

KIDS AT DPAC

Children must be able to sit quietly in their own seat without disturbing other guests. As a courtesy, DPAC recommends one parent or chaperone for every one child in attendance.

We sincerely hope you enjoy your DPAC experience so please know we are here to help. If you have a question or need assistance of any kind, please just ask the nearest usher, security guard, or DPAC staff member. We believe in great entertainment experiences, and we want to be our guests’ favorite place for live events.

DISCOVER BROADWAY Can’t use one or more of your season tickets for the next show? Donate your tickets and give an area youth or senior the chance to experience their first Broadway show ever! DPAC’s Discover Broadway and Golden Ticket programs offer SunTrust Broadway members a way to donate their tickets so their valuable seats do not go to waste. During the 2017 / 2018 season, over 150 tickets were donated to these programs and distributed to Durham Public Schools, Partners for Youth Opportunity and Durham seniors living in public housing. For many, these seats provided opportunities for youth and seniors to experience their first Broadway show ever. For the 2018 / 2019 season, DPAC’s Discover Broadway program will be partnering with Durham Public Schools to reach students in the performing arts who would otherwise be unable to afford to attend our events. DPAC’s Golden Ticket benefits seniors living at the J.J. Henderson Housing Center in Durham. By generously donating tickets you cannot use, Durham youth and seniors get the chance to experience the magic and music of live Broadway shows. With your generosity, these donated tickets provide the opportunity of a lifetime.

It’s easy to help: • If you know in advance that you cannot attend a show, or even if one member of your party will not be joining you, simply contact DPAC at :

DiscoverBroadway@dpacnc.com

• You will receive an acknowledgment from DPAC that your unused ticket information is being processed. • You, then, discard your original tickets and DPAC will handle all other details – we will reprint the tickets and arrange to have them distributed to deserving Durham students and seniors. * Please note: ticket donations must be made at least 72 hours prior to your scheduled performance date.
