DELTA PHI UPSILON FRATERNITY LAUNCHES ITS 1 NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE WITH ITS PROJECT GROOMED INITIATIVE

Houston, TX – 3/16/2011 – Delta Phi Upsilon Fraternity, Incorporated today announced the launch of its 1 National Day of Service, to be centered on its newest program effort, Project Groomed. Designed to serve the homeless and displaced persons, Project Groomed will be used by the fraternity’s chapters and colonies to collect needed articles of clothing, shoes and other items to be donated to local area homeless shelters or halfway houses, to assist those affected, with reintegration into society. Another component of Project Groomed will be empowerment and grooming seminars to be held in collaboration with identified local homeless shelters and halfway houses. In announcing this latest effort of the fraternity in its national program thrust, National President Larrel A. Green remarked that “this is an exciting time for our organization as we capture the H.E.A.R.T of Delta Phi Upsilon and bring it to the most needy in our communities. This is what the founding purpose and service mission of Delta Phi Upsilon is all about.” The Delta Phi Upsilon Day of Service will be held on Saturday, March 19. The general public is encouraged to support our local chapters in this worthy cause by donating needed items, including: • New or lightly worn clothing • New or lightly worn shoes • Ties • Dress Shirts/Blouses • Toiletries - ### Delta Phi Upsilon Fraternity, Incorporated (DPhiU) is a national service organization that was founded on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL in 1985. It is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by gay men of color. It is comprised of 300+ members in city chapters in five regions across the United States. Its membership includes gay men who exemplify its motto of “Service to our Kind,” through academic excellence, certified leadership skills, and who are consistently involved in creating change in the global community through the programs of service embodied in the fraternity’s national program goals.
