Houston, TX – 3/16/2011 – Under the umbrella of its Global Awareness national program theme, Delta Phi Upsilon Fraternity, Incorporated today announced that its chapters and colonies will hold activities in observance of World nd Water Day on Tuesday, March 22 . According to statistics published by www.thewaterproject.org, nearly 1 billion people in the world don't have access to safe drinking water; 1 out of every 4 deaths under the age of 5 worldwide is due to a water-related disease; and nearly 80% of illnesses in developing countries are linked to poor water and sanitation conditions. “It is unimaginable that there are places in this world where something as simple as water is not readily available to all. These statistics show not only how lucky we are to live in this country, but how much we must extend a helping hand to those in the global community who are most affected by these conditions,” were the words of Delta Phi Upsilon National President Larrel A. Green. President Green went on to comment that “Delta Phi Upsilon intends to be in the forefront of addressing the needs of the global community through our diverse service program. To that end, I am asking our chapters and colonies to implement service efforts that will help bring awareness to this issue. I am also asking our supporters and the general public to help us in our quest to bring clean water to developing countries by making a donation to our Delta Phi Upsilon World Water Day Project. Non tax-deductible donations can be made by logging on to www.dphiu.org/donate.”
