Seeing things differently
Crystal Vision provides a hundred interface, keying and picture storage modules to help all those involved in the professional broadcast industry perform their job successfully. With customers in every corner of the world, Crystal Vision was formed in 1996 and is aptly located near Cambridge, one of the UK centres for technical innovation. Able to provide every piece of your interface system, our expertise lies in chroma keying, up and down conversion, picture storage, embedded audio, synchronisers, video delays...the list goes on. So, what makes us different? The way we use technology makes us different. When you’ve got engineering minds that can tackle something as complex as a chroma keyer, you know the interface is going to be good. As a result we’ve developed unconventional products with features you won’t find anywhere else. Our audio embedders and de-embedders give you real freedom when it comes to manipulating and processing multiple groups of embedded audio. Our synchronisers allow the mixing of Dolby E and AES in the same audio group. The Picturestore products cleverly combine the different strengths of DRAM and Flash memories to create graphics storage products with a real technical advantage. We even have a series of multi-functional products that combine standard interface functionality with the insertion and reading of AFD data for auto selection of the appropriate aspect ratio. Then there’s our SD and HD chroma keyers which have unique features for sports graphics. It’s products like these that win us the big orders.

We’re different because we do all we can to make things easy for you. Interface can be confusing when you’re struggling to work out what you need to buy – but not with Crystal Vision. Take System Builder, for example. This free product selector tool, available on our website at www.crystalvision.tv, has been designed to make it easy for you to put together a system – whether you’re new to Crystal Vision or you know our products better than we do. System Builder will walk you through a series of screens where you select the boards, piggybacks, rear modules, accessories and frames you need – and with one click of the mouse you can even send your wish list to us for a quote. Buying the products is easy too. We have enthusiastic, well-trained distributors across the world, there to provide you with help when you need it. When we say we save people rack space and money, we really mean it! (And that makes us different too.) With other companies you’re limited to one or maybe two frame sizes, which may not suit the number of boards you need to buy. Crystal Vision offers you four different frame sizes meaning you can select one that suits your application perfectly – but not only that. Our frames are available with different levels of control, while Ethernet connectivity allows you to control our boards from anywhere. Such is our flexibility, we’ll allow you to mix anything in the same frame: video, audio, analogue, digital, Standard Definition, High Definition, 3G HD and fibre optics. How do we save you space? By fitting an amazing 24 of our boards in 4U, 12 in 2U, six in 1U and two in a desk top box. The way we treat you makes us different, with our customer support considered the best in the business. Our customer support team work with a full rack of equipment set up so they can mimic customer installations for quick troubleshooting – and make it their personal
Seeing things differently
mission to solve the problem. Our products are extremely reliable, and in the rare case where there is an issue, we offer a five year warranty (with product registration) and a quick turnaround so we get the product or a replacement back to you. We’ll even create products just for you, if you need enough of them.

Even this brochure is different. We won’t make you wade through hundreds and hundreds of pages, trying to drill down to the product you need, and giving up hope of ever finding it. Knowing your time is limited, we prefer to make things easy for you. Here in just 36 pages is the Crystal Vision range in a nutshell, presented to you in an easy-to-understand way. Use the index on the right to go straight to your product area of interest. Once you’re there, the symbols show at a glance which features each product offers, while the rear module diagrams allow you to see the inputs and outputs you’ll get with a particular frame rear module – and so easily select the best one for your application. Of course, if you want more detail individual leaflets are available for each product or you can explore our website at www.crystalvision.tv. There’s always something new from Crystal Vision, so keep an eye on our website for the latest product news.

AUDIO PIGGYBACKS Audio piggybacks are small sub-PCBs that fit on to the main motherboard of many of our audio products and allow you to input or output audio. You can easily remove the piggyback and swap it for another, giving increased versatility to our audio products and allowing you to configure them to be exactly what you need on that day.
HD-DIP2

FRAMES Why are our frames different? We can offer four different sizes, adapting to you whether you want to buy one board or a hundred of them! Holding 24 boards, our mighty 4U frames help us win those large installations where cost is the deciding factor. The 2U frames can take 12 boards and remain our most popular size. Where space and cost are at a premium the Indigo 1 frames are ideal, taking up a mere 1U of rack space for up to six boards. Finally, the desk top boxes are suitable for non-rack mounted installations requiring a maximum of two modules.
2U frame with passive front panel which holds any mixture of up to 12 boards. Requires separate power supplies and rear modules. Fit either one PSU-160i or two PSU-160i if power redundancy is required.
You can put anything in them. Mix any boards from our range – video, audio, analogue, digital, High Definition, Standard Definition, 3G HD or fibre optics. With stylish looks and easy access and maintenance, they look great and work as they should – yet won’t cost you the earth. They offer a host of practical features including optional redundant power supplies, an exceptional cooling system, sophisticated status monitoring and excellent connection to control systems. They offer three levels of control, with a passive front panel for board edge operation, an active front panel for remote or Statesman operation, and a passive front panel fitted with Statesman CPU for PC only control. Frames with an ‘E’ in their names allow full Ethernet connection to the Statesman PC software.

MultiLogo Controller
CONTROL You won’t believe just how flexible control can be with Crystal Vision. Take your pick from board edge operation on the module itself, an active front panel fitted to the front of the frame, a remote control panel placed in any convenient studio location of your choice, a dedicated control panel for the more ‘hands-on products’ – or use any PC running on your Ethernet network. Choose what suits you.
Dedicated 2U control panel for operation of multiple MultiLogo logo keyers. Ideal for station branding applications. Available 2010.
SW808 Controller Dedicated 1U panel for simple control of one SW808 or one SW803 3G routing switch. Dedicated buttons for each of the sources and destinations. Allows programming and recall of salvos. Fits easily in a control desk and is ideal for live operation and when the routing switch has regular adjustment.
REMOTE CONTROL PANELS REMIND 1U remote control panel (482mm wide and 90mm deep). Used when a requirement exists for the panel and equipment to be located in different rooms. Plugs into the frame remote control sockets and can control up to two frames at once.
REMIND-E 1U remote control panel (482mm wide and 90mm deep). Allows control of an unlimited number of Crystal Vision frames over an Ethernet network. SW808 Controller
CoCo Controller Dedicated 1U control panel for up to twelve CoCo colour correctors and legalisers. Separate shaft encoders for the main adjustments (video gain, chroma gain, black level, RGB gain and gamma) with a display showing the value. Also allows easy adjustment of many other parameters. REMIND-E
Safire Controller State-of-the-art 2U control panel for Crystal Vision keyers, with a large, clear display, a simple menu structure and dedicated buttons for many functions. Can control up to seven Safire, Safire HD 2, LKEY211 or LKEY HD modules.
CoCo Controller
CoCo HD Controller Dedicated 1U control panel for up to twelve CoCo HD colour correctors and legalisers. Separate shaft encoders for the main adjustments (video gain, chroma gain, black level, RGB gain and gamma) with a display showing the value. Allows easy adjustment of many other parameters. KEY
Remote control
SNMP monitoring and control is available for Crystal Vision frames and remoteenabled boards. Able to work with any SNMP manager. For SNMP monitoring, the agent can either report the status or generate traps on a status change of any board in the frame. SNMP traps can be used to trigger alarms. For control, the manager can read and change the value of control settings on any board in the frame. Using SNMP requires a frame running Linux, upgraded front panel software and appropriate MIBs.
