The Honor Scholar Program explores the connections between areas of human knowledge, lets you act on your curiosity about a wide range of topics, and calls on your intellectual courage and leadership as we examine difficult and important issues. The program offers small discussion-based interdisciplinary seminars in which students engage actively with each other and with professors; as seniors, Honor Scholars complete a yearlong project, working closely with a faculty adviser and a committee of professors. Honor Scholars come from all backgrounds and majors, and go into all fields, but we are united by our curiosity, integrative and interdisciplinary thinking, willingness to engage respectfully with each other on even the most challenging topics, and our appreciation of a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. The Rector Scholarship is DePauw’s oldest and most prestigious award. Students are selected for this scholarship based on excellent academic achievement as evidenced by the highest academically qualified students in the applicant pool, typically the top five percent. Since its beginning in 1919 more than four thousand graduates have earned Rectors, and many are among DePauw’s most distinguished and honored alumni. They are the return on how Edward Rector, himself, described his gifts to the University. They are “investments in humanity, in the men and women who are to carry on the work of our country and the world when you and I are gone.” RECENT RECTOR SCHOLAR DESTINATIONS
