ST UDEN T SN APSHOTS
NO TWO STUDENTS LIVE THE SAME DEPAUW EXPERIENCE.
The best way to capture the DePauw spirit is to turn the storytelling over to the students themselves. In these pages, we profile six Tigers, giving them space to highlight the moments that have shaped who they’ve become. We filled the remaining pages with small insights and stunning photographs captured on Instagram by real people who agreed to let us see DePauw through their eyes.
DEPAUW STUDEN TS TELL OUR STORY BEST, BECAUSE THEY’RE THE ON ES LIVIN G IT.
ADRIAN ABLES S E N IO R FRO M O K L A H O MA CI T Y, O KL A. M AJ OR: computer science EXT RAS: men’s soccer captain; Information Technology Associates Program (ITAP) intern; Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member
“I R EA L LY F EEL L I K E I G O T T O TA K E A DVA N TA GE OF A LL T H AT D E PA UW H A S T O OF F ER. I M A X I MI Z E D MY T IME HERE I N EVE RY WAY: SO C I A LLY, AT HLET I C A L LY A N D A C A D E M I C A LLY. ”
CO L L E G E C HO IC E Knowing that the liberal arts education and the welcoming community he found at DePauw would hold more value than playing Division I soccer at a school in Oklahoma, Adrian passed up an offer and packed his bags for Greencastle.
I T J U ST M A D E S E N S E Adrian started off undecided about a major. When he took his first computer science class, however, “everything just made sense.” He joined the Information Technology Associates Program to hone his IT skills through campus jobs and internships.
S U P PORT NETWORK “People here really care,” Adrian says. From the Hubbard Center mentor who worked to get him an interview for an internship to the soccer coach who helped him navigate professional tryouts, Adrian found support in every corner.
FINDING BALANCE While he always dreamed of playing soccer professionally, Adrian pursued his studies as diligently as his athletic training. He also managed to secure internships every summer and Winter Term, and spent a summer working at Eli Lilly and Company.
G OING PRO Adrian’s dream of being a professional athlete came true. He signed with a team back home in Oklahoma. He knows that when his soccer career draws to a close, he can rely on his DePauw education to launch him into his next venture.
MORGAN SHANER S E N IO R FRO M M A M ARO NE CK, N.Y. M AJ OR: international political economy (math minor)

L EG ACY PIC K Born into a DePauw family, Morgan always thought she would buck tradition and enroll elsewhere. But after a campus tour, she knew, like her mother and grandmother before her, that DePauw was the perfect fit.
T H E B E ST - L A I D P L A N S After a challenging first semester of premed classes, Morgan realized business and economics were what really fascinated her. She designed her own major and enrolled as a Management Fellow.
CA REER B U ILDERS Joining the Management Fellows Program not only led Morgan to a semester-long internship in Munich, but it also strengthened her foundation in finance and provided networking opportunities with alumni, guest speakers and other mentors.
TO B OLDLY G O When her internship in Germany ended, Morgan jumped into another semester abroad, this time studying in South Africa. Always ready to dive in and unafraid of a challenge, she also spent two Winter Terms abroad, in Thailand and Cuba.
AFTER DEPAU W Morgan scored a job in Cincinnati after graduation, working in private wealth management with Merrill Lynch. She knows that relationships she’s built and knowledge she’s gained at DePauw have prepared her for whatever comes next.
OUR COMMUNITY IS DRIVEN BY CURIOSITY.
“DePauw has given me the confidence, drive and passion to push my boundaries and continue to achieve my goals.” Keagan Angevin, junior, Reno, Nev.

FREE D O M TO E X PLO R E Coming from Japan, where students commit to a field of study before they enroll in university, Lisa was attracted to DePauw’s liberal arts approach. She knew it would give her a chance to pursue a range of interests from the start.
FOCUSING IN Lisa’s curiosity was piqued by studies of human behavior, so she took economics and psychology courses in her first year, seeing them as two sides of the same coin. She chose psychology as her major.
I N DEPENDENCE AB ROAD Lisa spent a semester abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland, where living in a big city and studying at a large university helped her to become independent. She returned with a new appreciation for the sense of community that a college DePauw’s size can create.
WAY S OF S EEING Back on campus, the Honor Scholar Program’s interdisciplinary seminars, which included a semesterlong case study of Haiti, taught her the value of approaching issues from multiple vantage points.
CAREER PLANS After graduation, Lisa is heading back home to Japan. She was hired as a consultant with Deloitte, where she’ll put her problem-solving skills and psychological insight to work.
GRANT WALTERS S E N IO R FRO M K A L A MAZ O O , MI CH . M AJ OR: communication (history minor)

A FIRST STE P Grant was a sports writer in high school, so he signed up to write for the student newspaper, The DePauw, in his first year. That set him on a path to a career in media and communications.
T E ST I N G T H E WAT E R As a sophomore, Grant applied for the Media Fellows Program, which gave him the chance to explore DePauw’s various media outlets. Working at D3TV, he realized that broadcast media and video production interested him most.
I N T ERNS H IPS Grant pursued his interest in broadcast media with a Winter Term internship at WTHR in Indianapolis and a semester-long internship with a boutique video production company in Cape Town, South Africa.
CONNECTIONS The Media Fellows Program did more than drive Grant’s academic career. It also shaped his social life. He met his future fraternity brothers through the program, which led him to pledge. His time as Sigma Chi president helped him to grow as a leader.
NEXT U P Grant’s internships and coursework gave him a strong foundation in the broadcast industry, and his peer consultant experience inspired him to pursue a career on the client side of media. He hopes to work in PR or marketing after he graduates.
“The Honor Scholar Program has shown me that I can do more, write more and read more than I ever thought possible.” Rachel May, sophomore, Washington, Ind.
FRIENDSHIPS THAT BEGIN AT DEPAUW ENDURE LONG AFTER GRADUATION.
ON THE FIELD OR IN THE STANDS, TIGER PRIDE IS FIERCE.
“Being able to think critically and communicate ideas is incredibly valuable. DePauw will teach you to do both.” John Jessup, junior, South Bend, Ind.

CHO O SI N G R E SE ARC H Nick chose DePauw mostly for the Science Research Fellows Program, which has allowed him to direct his own experiments and pursue research that sparks his interest.
L E A R N I N G TO L E A D Because Nick is able to lead his own projects, he builds partnerships with his professors, seeing them as colleagues as well as teachers.
I N LAY M AN’ S TERM S A senior seminar laid the foundation for Nick’s future in teaching. The class helped Nick learn to simplify the concepts he worked on in the lab, so he could explain highspeed imaging or ionic liquids to the average non-scientist.
TH E FU TU RE DR. M OORE After graduation, Nick is moving to Seattle to pursue his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry at University of Washington. With his lab experience, he’ll be ready to jump into a leadership role there right away.
CIRCLING BACK Once he earns his Ph.D., Nick hopes to return to academia, partly for that same freedom of exploration that drew him to the Science Research Fellows Program to begin with.
