the THING that CAME from OVER THERE! Directed by Abigail Anderson
The critically acclaimed trio that brought you What The Dickens are back in another rip-roaring comedy adventure. Inspired by the horror movies of the 1950s, The Thing That Came From Over There is a fast-paced rollicking ride, mixing paranoia, suspense and hilariously gruesome deaths. It’s 1912, and as Scott and Amundsen begin their race across Antarctica, the hapless explorer, Captain Reginald Cranston, has accidentally landed on the wrong side of the continent. As Cranston and his motley band set up base camp, a meteor crashes nearby. Deciding to investigate, they set out towards the crash site - unaware of the danger that awaits not just them, but the whole of planet Earth. What ancient evil lurks inside the crater? What is the dark secret of the slimy fungus? And what is the horrifying fate of those who encounter the parasitic space worms? Join three daring actors as they play over 15 roles in 85 minutes of shocks, spine tingling silliness, and blood curdling terror. With comedy and thrills galore, the show features visual gags, verbal wit, giant puppetry, and even a little bit of live music.

TANK In 1965, a researcher lived with a dolphin for ten weeks to try and teach him to speak English. It was part of a NASA-funded research project into human-animal communication. Condemned by the wider scientific community as an elaborate circus trick, the experiment remains a controversial episode in the space race between the two Cold War superpowers. Inspired by the Dolphin House experiments, Breach's Fringe First winning Tank rips the story apart to explore the violence of language, the power of culture, and what happens when you inject a cetacean with LSD.

With the help of her Fairy Godmother, she’s the centre of attention when she arrives at the ball in a magical coach and wearing a gorgeous gown. The handsome Prince sweeps her off her feet and they dance the night away until the clock chimes midnight. Praised by audiences and critics alike, Cinderella is a sure-fire mix of wonderful dance, spectacular scenery, and a cast of characters that include mice, lizards and even a dancing frog, that captures every imagination. A Theatre Royal Plymouth production
“I just don’t know if I’m ever happy. Like, really truly happy. Even if you sent me up to space, by Day Four I’d be worrying if I had enough stuff on my Kindle…” In a faded country house hotel, a group of medical reps attend an office away day. Potential office romances aside, it’s strictly business-as-usual: endless team-building exercises, an over-ambitious boss and the wrong sort of biscuits. But as the day wears on, the reps have more questions than answers: Does any of their work make a difference? What exactly are they selling? And who’s getting promoted to the Woking office? Little do they know that change is swiftly coming and they’re asking all the wrong questions… Introducing a bold new play from the Plymouth writer of Forever House that asks ‘is happiness ever more than a state of mind?’

Following his sell-out success with Needles and Opium at The Barbican, London in 2016, internationally renowned director and performer Robert Lepage brings his critically-acclaimed The Far Side of The Moon to Plymouth.
“This is Lepage at his very best, showing his talent for forging unexpected connections and appealing simultaneously to hearts and minds.” The Guardian This visually stunning production tells the story of two estranged brothers brought together by their mother’s death: Phillipe, an introvert philosopher, looking to the stars for meaning in the universe, and his successful brother, Andre, who takes a much more pragmatic view on interplanetary mysteries. Drawing parallels between their fraternal bitterness and the competition between the Soviets and Americans during the space race, this beautiful and enigmatic one-man show is a witty exploration of one of the great mysteries of our time.
“This astonishingly talented, deeply sympathetic writer/director/performer is clearly in his element in this stunningly inventive and original show.” The Telegraph Performed by Yves Jacques and punctuated by Laurie Anderson’s otherworldly score, The Far Side of the Moon takes audiences on a spellbinding, funny and technically exquisite journey, highlighting the poetry that hides in human life. This epic production will be performed in only three UK cities, offering a unique opportunity for audiences outside of London to experience this unparalleled work.

For Lilly, going to Indonesia isn’t just another holiday with mum. It’s a new start, and the chance to ride an elephant called Oona. But then the tsunami hit – and Oona charges into the jungle, with her young rider desperately clinging on. Directed by Dale Rooks and Timothy Sheader with puppetry design and direction by Finn Caldwell and Toby Olié, both previous Associate Puppetry Directors on War Horse, this epic and spectacular production tells an emotional and moving story of love, loss, loyalty and of living for the moment.

a new creation by Hofesh Shechter No stranger to Plymouth audiences, internationallyacclaimed choreographer Hofesh Shechter returns to Theatre Royal Plymouth this season with an explosive new creation.
“The mighty contemporary choreographer a combination of dance-maker and rock-star, but with film-director sensibilities.” The Times
In this new full-length evening, Shechter makes a return to live music, in a score which he composes for a group of spirited and eclectic instrumentalists who play on stage alongside his tribe of world class dancers. Shechter’s world explores the clash of juicy sentimentalism with the harshness and roughness of a life where the body is an agent of conflict. Intricate choreographic patterns and a rich musical score come together in a heady mix of power and emotion to tell a surreal, impossible tale about the human spirit. An exciting opportunity to see brand new work by Hofesh Shechter at one of just two previews ahead of the World Premiere in Paris.
Commissioned by Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Théâtre de la Ville-Paris / La Villette-Paris and Brighton Dome and Festival. Co-commissioned by Colours International Dance Festival Stuttgart, Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, Romaeuropa Festival, Theatre Royal Plymouth, Marche Teatro Ancona and HOME Manchester
