Interior design focus The Work of Designer (1) When buying a new house or renovating the existing home, many people try to look for a decent home design and space planning according to their ideal plans and needs. They have asked me the reasons to engage the interior designer for help. Some people may think that the designers have various charges on the design consultation and the project management, why not simply go straightly to the contractors ? Besides, some people believe that once they have their design ideas, they can discuss with the contractors directly instead of engaging a designer. Is this way able to work out? In fact, home renovation is not only related to the designs. It is a project with lots of detail plans including space planning, material application, construction monitoring, quality and safety management. Designers create the designs in real by blending aesthetics with functionality in consideration of the design concept and needs from client. In addition, they manage the project and understand well about the building codes, as well as meeting the request from all parties (clients, contractors and the design). That said, designers have accumulated many years of experience in all aspects of renovations, and developed creative home designs with meticulous attention. Now, let me tell you all about the works of interior designer! Design Process (1) Firstly, designer will measure all the areas in your home and will produce the conceptual plan based on your design concepts (also referred as design proposal). As a conceptual plan, it tells you about how they derive the design from your home in consideration of light, color and material applications, and how the design could become visually and mentally pleasing. Therefore, you need to let the designer understand your design concept, habits and preferences, and they can give you a tailor made program. Application of Materials (2) Material selection is often a complex decision. To be able to carry out optimal choices, a wide range of knowledge including visual effects, applications and functionalities must be all considered. If you have any questions on materials, you may ask the designers to give you valuable advice. (To be continued...) Leaving behind a promising career, at HKUST, within their entrepreneurship program. He joined FK Concepts, finding the world of luxury interiors attractive and fascinating. 設計師的工作 ( 一 ) 當你買了一間新屋,又或者翻新現有的家,每個人總希望把 家居設計裝修得時尚得體,去打造自己心目中的理想居所。 很多人都曾經問我一個問題,就是為甚麼要聘用設計師來設 計家居?有些人會認為設計師既要收設計費,又要收項目管 理費,何不乾脆直接找施工人員或傢俬店來完成裝修呢?同 時,又有部份人認為只要自己心目中有了設計意念,然後自 行將一切直接跟施工人員討論就可以了,但究竟這個方法是 否真的可行呢? 其實,家居裝修不是只跟設計有關,無論大大少少的裝修, 它都是一個包括了空間規劃、物料應用、施工程序、質素和 安全性管理等等的項目。然而,設計師的工作除了作為客戶 的設計意念代表者 ( 即是把客戶心目中的概念轉化為具體的 設計 ) 外,對於裝修項目內各個程序,設計師都要深入地顧 及和面對來自各方 ( 客戶、施工和設計本身 ) 的要求。因此, 設計師都會累積了相當多的管理和裝修經驗,期間利用他們 的心思細密,以及無限創意,為每個客戶創造出獨一無二及 令客人感到貼心的設計。 關於室內設計師的工作,現在就讓我一一告訴大家吧! 設計的過程 (一)設計師首先會在你的家居度尺,然後根據你的設計概 念,製作出設計計劃書。這個計劃你可以說是整個家 居設計的概念圖,因為它講究如何把空間的每一分每 一吋都運用在設計上,結合空間環境中的光線、色彩 和材質,作為整體考慮和佈置,滿足設計上與精神上 兩方面的需要。因此,你可以將你的設計要求、生活 習慣和喜好一切告知設計師,讓他們為你度身訂造一 個計劃。 物料的應用 (二)選擇適當的物料往往是一門很考究的學問,因為物料 不僅要考慮設計的視覺效果,更要注意它的不同應用 性和可塑性,因此你可以詢問設計師給予寶貴意見。

Project Highlight TAI HUNG FAI ENTERPRISES LIMITED As honored by our client, the designer played a mix of traditional and modern elements – the use of wooden textures and stainless steel effect to create a professional image. At the top of the reception, the oval-shaped ceiling with diffused light around reveals a fresh, yet warm feeling such that the logo feature-wall becomes outstanding within this light-filled place. Along side, the designer made use of TV wall for presenting THF’s development projects. Modern and elegance, the texture of stainless steel reflects the professional senses and becomes a form of beauty in front of visitors. The glass wall allows natural light to flow through every corner in the conference room which makes the place look brighter and to keep users unpressurized. The room settings also provide the necessary and adequate privacy.

Feng Shui Talk Bathroom Bathroom (1) – Bathroom should not be located in the center of the house. It creates odor and open bathroom design with visible taps will maximize the low or negative energies. Bathroom (2) – Bathroom should be thoughtfully refurbished/relocated as it is not recommended to be used otherwise as bedroom or study room. Remedy: (1)

Do not install bathroom in the centre of the house, open style with glass frames should be changed to tinted glass to create an invisible wall. (2) Do not refurbished bathroom as bedroom. If bathroom is situated in the weak spot of the house, it applies pressure to the negative zone and create positive vibes and prosperity to the occupants. It is best to cover toilet after use and leave bathroom door closed at all times.
