District 9790 Peter Toomey Police Officer of the Year Award Why run a club award and nominate for the District Award? The Peter Toomey Police Officer of the Year Award is granted each Rotary year to a Victorian or NSW police officer in District 9790 who shows an exemplary commitment to their local community. It is named in honour of the late Peter Toomey, a distinguished Rotarian and long serving police officer, who helped establish this award at both his local club of Pascoe Vale as well as at the district level. Victoria Police and NSW Police units within the District encourage their members to become involved within their local community and Rotary Clubs can acknowledge this great work through their own local award as well as through the Peter Toomey Award. It is a win - win for both Rotary and the police. From a Rotary Club perspective, running your own local club award is a rewarding program with relatively low cost. Costs involved could be for items such as: • A Perpetual Shield (one off cost) • Two small replica shields and possible gift vouchers for the local winner and runner up in each year of participation. In this Rotary year, District 9790 will again award the Peter Toomey Police Officer of the Year Award and your club is encouraged to nominate a local police officer for this award. It would again be great to have as many clubs as possible in our district becoming involved in the program. All the necessary steps for participation and the criteria are on the next page. Many thanks and all the very best in finding that champion of your community. Yours in Rotary David Redfearn OAM Coordinator, Peter Toomey Police Officer of the Year Award.
