Emma Davis - AN INSIGHT INTO ROTARY - 2020 AND BEYOND It was a delight to welcome Moreland’s newest member, AG Emma Davis, to our weekly meeting last week. Emma is well known to us all both from her role as Assistant Governor of our Group 2 cluster, and a frequent guest at recent club Zoom meetings. It was appropriate for Emma to give us a “behind the badge” presentation so that we could learn more about the new member of our Moreland family. Emma’s outline of her life so far and her journey into Rotary was insightful and impressive, revealing qualities of high personal values and a focussed work ethic.
Her working life commenced in parallel with her education which was all achieved with success, cultivating the work ethics and organisation skills that have carried through into her life at work, with her family and in the community especially as a Rotarian. A common thread to her work is applying a learnt experience in managing teams and projects, delivered with the achievement of many goals and timelines. We have been living in a time when many questions have been posed about the relevance and future of the Rotary organisation. So it has been gratifying that the Rotary international leadership has responded positively with challenges to us all, none more so than in our approach to membership and how we connect with our communities.
None of this comes by accident with her life initially shaped by experience on a family farm near Benalla, with an essential commitment to values of hard team work and ethical principles. It is her family and extended family that have done so much to shape the person we all know today. Emma excelled at school and then in her tertiary experience at La Trobe campuses at Wodonga, Beechworth and Bundoora, leading to the awarding of B Bus (Hons) in Hospitality Mgt. This an area which she took up work challenges with some relish and consistent praise. Emma’s attitude to life is to not stop learning which is evidenced by a myriad of training and courses undertaken, some of which is on display from her this impressive Rotary record so far -
1999 Ian Murphy Debating 2009/10 Group Study Exchange reserve 2009 Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) participant 2010/2011 Group Study Exchange to Germany 2010 RYLA supporter (and many years since a total of 5 times since over 10 years). 2013 Inducted to Rotary Club of St Kilda and straight onto the club board 2014 Transfer to Rotary Club of Strathmore 2015 Royce Abbey Awardee 2017/18 President and Paul Harris Award. Citation and we also won District 9790 club of the year. 2018 - Present Assistant Governor 2020 Transfer to Rotary Club of Moreland

We are fortunate that someone like Emma saw in Rotary an opportunity to help fulfill her own ambitions and personally demonstrating the capacity of bright enterprising young people can both learn from and contribute to the vibrancy of Rotary. Added to this is her breaking down some very dated attitudes of the role of women and young busy working professionals in Rotary. Emma is particularly appreciative of the long overdue breaking of the glass ceiling of International Presidency by an aspiring Jennifer Jones. Emma is proud of her Rotary achievements and support networks past, and excited for the journey ahead. Emma is a very impressive young woman and the Rotary Club of Moreland members are very grateful that she has chosen us as the next stage of her Rotary life journey, one which we feel will provide many mutual opportunities for growth and fulfilling Rotary experiences.
