from the editor Every since I was a little boy. New York city has been my dream place to call home. Once I realized fashion was where I wanted to plant my career, the undying need to get invited, not just to get into New York *cough* I mean Mercedes Benz fashion week. Working in fashion in New York, that's a little stamp that you've made a little splash in the city. While being the editor here in the city only 7 months, I was finally invited to my first show this season! Yes, it's not the full roster, but I'm grateful. Once you can truly appreciate the little things, you''ll be blessed with much bigger. The true NY fashionista also knows that fashion week isn't just confined into the walls at Lincoln Center. Fashion week is held all over the city; every borough. Not every designer can get a runway show down that expensive runway. Hotel rooftops, art galleries and night clubs all host the independent and up and coming. We all have to start somewhere right? If this is your start, go ahead and do that thing! Don't get discouraged if you can't show or even go to Lincoln Center. The most creative designers are the ones people haven't even heard of. You? Angel Noel

"Being DRESSED means wearing what you want, when you want to, because it's simply WHO YOU ARE."
OWNER: SB SHADES PHOTO: ENRIQUE ORTIZ
How long have you been designing under your brand? When was the last time you worked for someone else since you're self-employed? I have been designing since 2007 my first clothing collection was entitled "toxic" in 2009 I started the SBshades brand to focus primarily on accessories. I actually worked for the government in 2008 till 2011 it was a great way to stay motivated, save money an also have discipline. What made you get into designing? I always loved making my own clothing or reconstructing things to fit differently. My biggest passion out of designing is to make everything one of a kind. It's kind of a way for me to express the mood I was in or what I look forward to. Do you make all your pieces yourself? Yes, everything I have done has been hand made. But now I have gone into manufactured luxury eyewear to touch a bigger market that I haven't tackled yet. We always see you DRESSED using lots of color and drama, what is a typical outfit for you on the street? I usually dress in a lot of black. But lately, I've changed my wardrobe to compliment the moods I've been in. I'm now showcasing more color to compliment my new collection "54" so that everyone can get the happy vibes and feelings I had when I started this project. How old are you and what's your sign? What city do you call home? I am 23 and I am a cancer.

I believe NYC, Baltimore, Atlanta and London are home. I live mostly in Baltimore and NYC. But I wouldn't really claim a home till I purchase a actually place (rent is lame Lolz) What do you see is next for designer eyewear in fashion? Humbly I have been giving this opportunity to change the way people view fashion as well as accessories. Let's just say its really in my hands what the future holds for eyewear What does bring DRESSED mean to you? It mean simply. Being you.
Having the ability to dress yourself accordingly without any trends or looking through a magazine. I do believe it is a gift to be you it's not so easy in modern times with ads etc being shoved down our youths throat. If you had to work for another designer to collaborate with, who would it be? I would say Leigh Bowery but he's resting in heaven. But I would love to work with Prada.

"Don't start this industry unless you have a passion for this. Then and don't give up, It's never easy at first."
What was the most time consuming piece you had to make for your line? I have 2 gowns that have taken well over a week to finish . The name of your clothing line? JorgĂŠ Since this is your first line you're showing, what made you want to get designing under your name? Ive been a image consultant for over 8 years , dressing people and making them look amazing is my passion but now I feel it's time to start pushing my own ideas and visions on the Hollywood elite. Who taught you to sew? I taught myself with of course the occasional tips from my Mother.
What fashion houses do you look to for inspiration? I'm very edgy & classic so I reference early Thierry Mugler, John Galliano & of course the late Lee "Alexander " McQueen What is your clothing lines name and aesthetic? Edgy high fashion ready to wear and couture all one of a kind never a duplicate.

"Anybody who loves to make a statement through their clothes and like to take extreme fashion risks should definitely look into my collection. I would say every garment in my line is a statement piece, it would be something you wear with a simple look and still have that edge or pop you're looking for like the fur vest, or the fringe pant, etc."
Your age really shocked me when I first met you, how does it feel to mistaken for an older age? Does it bother you? Haha yes I totally understand, I get this all the time. I believe that how young or old someone feels has a huge influence on how other people view them. To me age doesn't measure intelligence and age doesn't define wisdom. I guess it's because I carry myself in a mature matter and the way I put myself together. When is your clothing line making it's big debut? It will definitely be ready once I put my website together where some of the pieces will be sold! Stay tuned. What was the inspiration behind the line? My line is the definition of Glamour EDGE. While putting my collection together, constructing every single piece, I didn't have a full design laid out, I simply created this fantasy I had in my head, with chiffons, leather, sheer, fur, it all came together as one into this architectural sculpture. I have a spatial way of thinking to translate a two dimensional material into a three dimensional to form a body shaped garment if that makes sense.
I like to experiment with different forms, while designing and constructing a garment that is appropriate to human body. Most designers when making their collections don't design for themselves and don't wear their own pieces. Is this you? I am a little bit of both where I will only wear my exclusive pieces just so i can increase the visibility of my fashion line where it can reach a diverse audience. But I don't wear my whole collection because not all my pieces are exactly ready to wear, it's more for a runway or special occasion. Who/what made you get into fashion? Honestly my outlook of wanting to be DIFFERENT and the center of attention ever since I was little, and to stand out was always what took me apart from many people which eventually brought me to have interest in art and fashion. A big influence in my life is my grandmother since she has always been a high maintenance strong women I looked up to and always told me where ever I go make sure I speak without having to speak and that was through clothes and how I carry myself. What are you plans for your line for the rest of the year? First I have to say I'm so glad that I've been getting so much attention on my line and doing so well before it even officially launched out and that's why I know many great things are going to happen soon and in the near future. My plans are basically to just give my attention towards the positive and not stop or slow down my pace for the negative. I don't expect anything but greatness, things to learn and continue to achieve. I plan for my line to branch out further during fashion week and through networking and for my soon to be online site to do extremely well then I will move on to a new collection, that's all I can say for now. Greatness takes time but all this proves is that age doesn't measure anything, I just turned 18! Don't take your talent for granted, don't be lazy and you can do anything.

The T-Shirt Fashion Show By: Lexington Dash Fashion is timeless in it's own sense. It has changed from each era becoming more simple to more extravagant as years pass us by. From crazy prints to the more upcoming popular screen prints, is today's fashion becoming easier to express yourself? With the Indie fashion blooming more and more, we can't help but to see how screen
prints are taking over in the fashion world today. Is it the simple easy way to show expression, or just the new up and coming style of our era? Nonetheless we can't help but to run into this new trend on blogs and web sites on the internet. With crazy funky designs and outrageous colors this trend is being seen more and more everyday. We can definitely say that the youth has taken over the sophisticated, chic, and classy
industry we call "Fashion." Is this trend here to stay? Or is this just something for this era? The era of The Wasted Youth. With fashion blogs becoming more and more popular, it's becoming easier for new designers to put up there DIY projects for view. This being said it makes it simple for these artist to create easier styles and trends for us bloggers to copy. With vlogs (video blogs) showing us how to create these looks. Screen print fashion is nothing more then just an easy way to create a look quicker then heading to your favorite website to order it. With this newest craze of screen prints the scene of fashion is evolving into a more dramatic aspect of visuals, colors, and images. Personally I have yet to fall into such category, thus being a well known trend setter in my hometown my closet is seeing a bit more of this trend in its possession. It makes it a bit easier now to express ourselves in this world, as well as in the fashion industry.
Materialistic Morphine
I feel like this trend is setting an entirely new aspect for what accessible fashion is all about. Well know brands such as Wildfox Couture, XXI, H&M, Topman, and ASOS.com have also fallen into this indie inspired style. being able to layer this trend is making it easier for the fashionistas of today to make a mark on our era. I think it's time that we stop being scared of fashion and show the worls it doesn't matter what you wear, and how you wear it. All you need is confidence in your soul and a little pep in your step to make your outfit work. Name Us Clothing

Ask Billie
Q: Hey Billie! Fashion week is here, how do us regular kids who don't have the big connections to get into all the shows? --Ruby A: Ruby, fashion has changed a lot since Bryant park a couple of years ago. If you're super passionate to get in with all the buzz at fashion week, then here is the scoop. 1. Make friends with people who work at fashion publications, showrooms and PR people. They would be the best connections to have if you want to get into a show if you have no fashion appearance. 2. Talk to designers and fashion houses directly. Some designers are willing to give out tickets to fill space at shows at big venues. Good luck with getting into your favorite designers show, it is MUCH harder getting in since the move to Lincoln Center.
