Coming to the Mob Museum FIFA display on global soccer scandal now open The Mob Museum has added a temporary display, running from now to January 2016, providing details of the kickbacks, secrecy, match-fixing and rampant corruption that plagues the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the organization that runs international soccer. The indictments in the FIFA scandal are based on the law used for years in the fight against the American Mob.

“Breaking Bad:” The Mob and Pop Culture The Mob Museum plans a new display, to open in early November 2015, to add to its growing collection of artifacts from wellknown movie and TV shows portraying organized crime with the addition of items in from Breaking Bad, the award-winning television crime drama from 2008-2013. Geoff Schumacher, director of content for the Museum, says “Breaking Bad effectively dramatized what organized crime looks like in the 21st century.” Artifacts include gas masks, rubber apron and yellow hazmat suit worn by central character Walter White in Breaking Bad, as well as other items from the show.

Handcuffs worn by Tony Spilotro coming to Museum Handcuffs worn by Tony “The Ant” Spilotro will become part of The Mob Museum's growing collection of nearly 900 artifacts, detailing the history from the battle between organized crime and law enforcement, in November 2015. Its addition is part of a series of events that includes a panel on “The Real Story behind the movie Casino” set for November 7 at 7 p.m. Spilotro was a soldier and enforcer for the Chicago Outfit The Mob Museum who was assigned to protect the Las Vegas 300 E Stewart Ave, “skim”: the illegal diversion of casino profits (702) 229-2734 to the Mob. However, Spilotro’s violent extracurricular activities, as documented in the movie Casino, hastened the demise of the Mob’s influence in Las Vegas.

Museum celebrates 4th annual Repeal Day Party The Mob Museum will host its 4th annual Repeal Day Party December 5 from 6-10. Enjoy hand-rolled cigars, jazz, cabaret entertainment, dancing, fun casino games, signature cocktails, costume contest with great prizes and the Boss of the Bars competition pitting bartenders in a contest to create the best Prohibition-era drink. Winning At Poker Poker Malapropisms S

killed poker players are adept at buffing. This sentence has a Poker Malapropism: an incorrect word used for one somewhat similar in pronunciation but different in meaning – often with humorous overtones. The word “malapropism” originated from the character, Mrs. Malaprop, in Richard Sheridan’s play, “The Rivals” (1775). Example: “Her affluence over her niece was very small.” In Mark Twain’s novel “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” (1885), Aunt Sally used a malapropism: “I was most putrified with astonishment.” Better: petrified. Examples from well-known people: by George “The Baseball’s Yogi Berra: “Texas has a lot of electriEngineer” Epstein cal votes.” Comedian Norm Crosby is considered the Master of Malapropisms. My favorite: “This is unparalyzed in the state’s history.” In the 1970’s TV show “All in the Family,” Archie Bunker used malapropisms so frequently that they were labeled, “Archie Bunkerisms.” Examples: “A menstrual show” “Patience is a virgin.” Poker Malapropisms. . . “He was a loose player.” – Note: Loose players usually do lose. “He won the pot with truces-full.” “The game was Texas haul’em.” “She decided to make a big rise on the flop.” “He lifted up his thumb, announcing: ‘I boast it up!’” “He glanced at his hole cards and shoveled all-in.” Your turn. Suggest a few new Poker Malapropisms. Share them with your poker baddies. Start a new – fun-fooled – fad. . . George Epstein is retired aerospace engineer. Upon retiring he idecided to apply his engineering and mathematical skills to poker. VEGAS ANYWHERE

Experience the Zoom Slotzilla Takes Visitors to New Heights Above the Fremont Street Experience

S

lotZilla at Fremont Street Experience is a 12-story, slot machine-inspired zip line attraction and is one of the best things to do in Las Vegas. SlotZilla offers two ways to fly, the lower “Zipline” and upper “Zoomline.” The Zipline costs $20 and starts off 77 feet up. Flyers land halfway down the Fremont Street Experience pedestrian promenade, between the Four Queens and Fremont casinos. The Zoomline is $40 and takes off more than 10 stories up (114 feet) and whisks flyers 1,750 feet, all the way down the Fremont Street Experience, to a landing platform at the city’s most historic casino, the historic Golden Gate. The Zoomline provides even more thrills by sending flyers prone, or “superhero-style,” for an unprecedented view of the party that never ends at Fremont Street Experience. Flyers travel down the zip lines at up to 40 miles per hour. VEGAS ANYWHERE

Osaka – A Family Tradition Continuously Voted Best in Vegas

T

radition can be mighty tasty, and here it might actually be considered doubled. At Osaka on west Sahara classic Japanese dishes have been served for almost 50 years - and that longevity makes it additionally a Las Vegas tradition. In that time it has garnered numerous top awards, most recently Best Japanese honors in the current R-J “Best of Las Vegas” poll. And the stamp of approval for its authenticity reverberates in its selection as one the 50 Best Japanese Restaurants by Shukan Asahi, Japan’s largest weekly magazine. Now operated by the second generation of the founding Nakanishi family, it serves a broad menu of Japanese favorites, and yes embracing such native ingredients as live surf clams, live abalone, halfbeak, bonita and rudderfish. But fear not, there are lots of options for shyer palates too. Two visual aids provide guidance to the novice and reminders to the pro about the sushi choices. One is the menu itself, with clear images and full descriptions of each and every item. As well, a video screen rotates

through the menu tempting the diner with one beautiful sushi creation after another. These mini works of art come from the deft hands of former National Sushi Competition Adjudicator of Japan and award-winning sushi chef Shingo Alhara and his all-Japanese crew. Entrees are equally decorative in their presentation and quite generous. All of course, and most important, are a treat for the palate. That’s the driving force behind Osaka’s very full trophy cabinet. Take a seat in the Tatami room, Tepanyaki grill, or sushi bar. Or, at a table at your own party, as Osaka offers full catering service. At 4205 W. Sahara, 702.876.4988, and the family has also opened a location at 10920 S. Eastern, 702.616.3788. VEGAS ANYWHERE
