Immergrün & wirksam. Farne haben eine lange Vergangenheit, zählen sie doch zu den Pflanzen, die schon seit 400 Millionen Jahren auf der Erde wachsen. Und sie haben eine ausgesprochen glänzende Zukunft vor sich, denn sie entpuppen sich gerade als die neuen Stars der Anti-Aging-Kosmetik. INES HINTERKÖRNER
Anspruchslos und unscheinbar wächst er an schattigen, kühlen und feuchten Standorten im Wald. Alles andere als unscheinbar und anspruchslos ist aber, was im Farn steckt. Farne sind die neuen Stars bei den Anti-AgingWirkstoffen. Wundersame Kräfte hat man dem Farn ja schon im Mittelalter nachgesagt. Da wurde er in Kräutergärten gepflanzt, um böse Geister fernzuhalten. Farnkrautbüschel wurden als Glücksbringer über die Türen gehängt. Als Glücksfall entpuppt sich der Farn, der in der Volksmedizin Südamerikas seit Jahrhunderten zur Heilung von Hautkrankheiten und Wunden eingesetzt wird, nun auch für die Kosmetik. Einer der Ersten, die das Potenzial der immergrünen Pflanze erkannt haben, ist der deutsche Dermatologe und Anti-Aging-Experte Timm Golüke. Golüke suchte nach Wirkstoffen für eine eigene Pflegelinie. Und stieß bei einer vom New Yorker Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital veröffentlichten wissenschaftlichen Studie,
die die Wirksamkeit von Farnextrakten als Ergänzungsmittel zur unterstützenden Therapie bei Melanompatienten untersucht (und belegt) hat, auf den Farn. Wurzeln und Blätter des Farns besitzen Inhaltsstoffe, die alle Zeichen der genetischen und der durch Umweltfaktoren bedingten Hautalterung positiv beeinflussen können. „Farnextrakte schützen nachweislich die empfindliche Zell-DNA der Haut“, sagt er, „und damit vor lichtinduzierter Hautalterung und Hautkrebs.“ Hautschutz, fand Golüke heraus, ist bei Weitem nicht alles, was der Farn kann. Farnextrakte stoppen nicht nur den Kollagen- und Elastinabbau, sie stimulieren durch die verstärkte Ausschüttung von Wachstumsfaktoren auch die Neubildung von Kollagen. Da sie über ein großes antioxidatives Potenzial verfügen, können sie bereits entstandene Schäden reparieren und neue verhindern. Sie wirken antientzündlich, antibakteriell und beruhigend. Sie hemmen die Bildung des Enzyms Tyrosinase, also die Bildung von Pigmentflecken. Und sie bremsen den transepidermalen Wasserverlust und damit die Austrocknung der Haut. Ganz schön beeindruckend.
Vier Jahre hat Golüke mit dem Chemiker Leonhard Zastrow an seinem „Royal Fern Complex“, für den er bereits das europäische Patent erhalten hat, dem Herzstück der „Royal Fern“-Hautpflegelinie, herumgetüftelt. Dieser Komplex enthält Wirkstoffe von Königsfarn und Wurmfarn, die mit Ölen (Sanddorn, Wildrose und Öl aus dem Samen des afrikanischen Voacanga-Baums) sowie mit Mineraloxiden kombiniert wurden und synergetisch die ohnehin schon beachtliche Anti-Aging-Wirkung des Farns verstärken. Dieser Komplex wurde um Retinol, Hyaluronsäure und Antioxidantien ergänzt. Denn Golükes Anspruch war, eine „All-in-one-Lösung“ zu finden, die auf die fünf häufigsten Hautprobleme – Trockenheit, Falten, Kollagenabbau, Pigmentflecken und vorzeitige Hautalterung durch UVStrahlung und Umwelteinflüsse – einwirkt. Am 1. Jänner 2015 hatte „Royal Fern“ (die allererste Hautpflege mit Königsfarn) Weltpremiere im New Yorker Luxuskaufhaus Bergdorf Goodman, seit Kurzem ist die Linie (bestehend aus Serum, Creme, Augencreme und Reinigungsprodukt) auch in Österreich, exklusiv bei Nägele & Strubell, erhältlich.
