Harmful Foods Your Cat Should Never Eat By Dr Jennifer Creed All pet owners know that health care for your cat can be the most expensive part of pet ownership. Vet bills are never cheap, and pets are at risk of getting sick when we can never afford it. Thankfully, while emergency situations and accidents are always there, by investing in the health of your cats with a strong preventive health program as well as proper diet and effective nutrient supplements, you can remove the most destructive and disruptive medical problem in cats, Can- allergens.

Cats are often spoiled by the family and showered with all types of delicious food items. In many families, the cat even shares the dinner table with other members. However, it must be remembered that not everything is suitable for a cat and caution is required when feeding it. The diet of a cat must be rich in the required nutrients, but should not include any of the below mentioned food products. Here Dr Jennifer Creed has discussed the some common list of foods that your kitty should never eat such as: Raw Eggs: It is contain salmonella which causes diarrhea, vomiting and general weakness in cats. Raw eggs also have an enzyme that causes skin and coat problems in cats. Thus, raw eggs should never be fed to a cat. Care should also be taken that the cat does not consume raw eggs accidentally. Raw Fish: Raw fish consumption is harmful for cats. This is because raw fish has a compound which breaks down Vitamin B1 which is also called Thiamine. Thiamine is an essential vitamin for a cat, the lack of which causes neurological diseases. Raw fish can also cause food poisoning in cats due to presence of pathogenic bacteria such as E.Coli.

Cooked Bones : Cooked bones tend to break down and cause internal injury or intestinal obstruction in cats. Thus, only raw and uncooked bones are beneficial for cats. Eating raw bones is also beneficial for the state of a cat’s teeth.

Milk and Dairy Products: Milk and dairy products contain lactose which the cats cannot digest well. This is called lactose intolerance. Cats do like to drink milk and consume dairy products, but it is not beneficial for their health. Lactose intolerance results in diarrhea or stomach upset in cats. The symptoms usually appear within 12 hours. Coffee and Tea: Coffee and tea contains caffeine which causes poisoning in cats. However, small doses of tea or coffee do not cause any harm to cats due to less caffeine intake. The trouble arises when the cat consumes grounded coffee or tea bags because in such a case the caffeine ingestion is significant and leads to high blood pressure, vomiting and high heart rate. The cat can even die due to caffeine poisoning. Dog Food: Dog food is not poisonous for cats, but lacks essential nutrients such as taurine, Vitamin A, arachidonic acid and other nutrients. Lack of taurine can lead to heart problems, trouble in vision and dental issues in cats. Thus, cats should never be fed dog food. Other Junk Foods: Like humans, cats need food on the basis of whole, unhealthy foods, but that does not mean that they can make sound nutritional choices on their own. There is no place in the cat's diet, with processed foods, their excess fat, sugar and / or salt.

This is not from any comprehensive list. Some of the foods above can also be detrimental to "natural" and feeding your cat - especially since we are aware of many of them being healthy for humans. When it comes to most food items, it is probably not worth the risk. Even if food for cats is "safe", even then your cat may have unpleasant reaction to eat. Resist the urge to supplement your cat's diet with these little "behaviors" and your pet will love you the same - and be healthy. So, you must pay attention to avoid giving the above mentioned food items to your beloved cat.
