Biography of Dr. Morris Brown

Dr Morris Brown was born into a large family as the fourth of eight siblings in Anniston, Alabama 1948. With a mother who worked her way up to a nurse’s aide from sharecropping and domestic labor and a father who was both a laborer and a Baptist preacher, Dr. Brown’s upbringing was steeped in resilience and determination

His early life was shadowed by the harsh realities of segregation and racial injustice, marked by significant events like the Emmitt Till murder and the violent 1964 attack on Freedom Riders in Anniston Despite these challenges, he paved his path forward, initially integrating into the local workforce as a bagger and cashier, and later, his exposure to the medical field through his mother’s employment sparked his ambition to pursue medicine.

Dr Brown is noted for his profound expertise in medical care standards, provider assessment, and risk management. His professional focus spans diabetes management, violence prevention, healthcare disparities, and the challenges of mass incarceration.

From College to Medical School

After graduating third in his class at Cobb Avenue High School, Dr. Morris Brown of Ohio attended Knoxville College in Tennessee, where he further developed his leadership skills through involvement in the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and student government, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

He was accepted into Meharry Medical School, choosing it among four offers for its strong affiliations with the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and the United Methodist Church. He excelled in research and clinical practices there, graduating in 1974 and joining the United States Air Force Medical Corps During his three-year tenure as Director of Aerospace Medicine, he provided critical medical services to airmen at various locations

Providing Healthcare to Marginalized Communities

Post-military service, Dr Morris Brown, Dayton, played a pivotal role in the reconstruction of Central State University’s campus after it was devastated by a tornado. Leveraging his Air Force experience, he secured the necessary funds to rebuild the community/student health center, significantly impacting the local community and student body

In 1981, he joined the Family Medicine Residency program at Wright State Medical School/Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio Over the next 35 years, he devoted himself to serving marginalized communities in the Miami Valley region, growing his practice to serve over 10,000 patients through a dedicated team of healthcare professionals.

Accolades, Honors, and Affiliations

Dr Morris Brown, Ohio, has been recognized extensively for his dedication to family medicine, maintaining board certification for 35 years and receiving accolades such as the Air Force Commander’s Award for Healthcare, an Honorary PhD in Humanities, and several other community and professional honors

His Post-Physician Career

Since retiring in 2018, Dr Brown has directed his efforts towards criminal justice reform and healthcare improvement through his nonprofit, Above the Law, and as a Certified Medical Legal Consultant at All Ways Legal LLC. As the owner and CFO of Central Solutions LLC, he innovates in logistics and commercial maintenance, bolstering minority-owned businesses in Ohio

Additionally, he founded the nonprofit Walk in My Shoes, emphasizing his commitment to social advocacy and community service, including ongoing engagements with the NAACP and speaking at various cultural events

Dr Brown enjoys a well-rounded life, indulging in hobbies like chess, jazz, theater, art, and walking, continuing to make significant contributions to his community in Dayton, Ohio.
