GENERAL MOTORS HIRING PROCESS

STEP 1 The Job Search Find a position that's right for you or locate one referred to you by a GM recruiter. There are two ways to learn about jobs at GM: -

Locate a position of interest found under Job Search & Apply. Go to a recruiting event at a university or organization (found at gm.com/students or by checking the event calendars).

To submit your credentials online, you will be required to create an account and candidate profile. The profile itself has nine sections, ranging from work experience to self-identification questions, and allows us to evaluate your credentials against the requirements of positions. The entire process of creating a profile takes about 20 minutes. Once you have created the profile, you can attach a resume (see Resume Tips) and update your profile or resume with new information at any time. When you submit your credentials online to a specific job, your data will be entered into our candidate database for potential matches. We encourage you to regularly review our open positions and attach your credentials to positions of interest. STEP 2 Credentials Review At GM, we're interested in your abilities and talents. We want to see what sets you apart. To reach that understanding in a fair and accurate way, our recruiting teams assess your qualities as a candidate against the requirements of the position. We identify the ‘best fit’ candidates, whose education, experience and skills match those requirements.

STEP 3 The Interview Recent college graduates and experienced professionals will be interviewed by functional managers from the area with the open position. GM uses a behavioral based interview process where we assess your education, skills, abilities and experiences as it relates to the opening for which you are interviewing. We also evaluate the personal and professional competencies you possess compared to those we believe are critical success factors for the open position. In this process, the interviewers will ask you to relate actual experiences you have had that demonstrate your skills and competencies. GM campus recruiting teams evaluate the credentials of student candidates interested in co-op and intern assignments. These managers will assess your interest and evaluate competencies through a variety of interactions with you. STEP 4 The Selection Decision By the end of the process, we have a good sense of your strengths as a candidate. From here, we select the candidate most qualified for the position. Because we know this is important to you, our goal is to always communicate our decisions in a timely manner.
