You can’t just make up angels. He together. It’s been a long time. We lost José last year.” touched the campfire Pedro said, “Yeah, if it wasn’t for him we’d never had the with his stick. José’s son Jake, now a grown man, spoke nerve to go to Bethlehem that night. It was scary when into the silence, “I held Him.” He said quietly. “The señora got up and needed to go outside. I took those angels lit up the camp..bright as day! Him very carefully. He was warm, the baby, but it felt “What I remember is the singin’,” said Juan. “It was like we were in a canyon full of sound, you could almost see like He was holding me and not the other way around. I stayed very still and then, to my surprise…He looked at it! I figured it would spook the sheep, but it didn’t. “Little Jake stood behind ol’ José, peekin’ around his leg.” me…like He knew what I was thinking. Said Pedro. “When them angels finished and rose up and flew outta there, José said, ‘C’mon boys we’re goin’ to town!”

A six week QuitCore Smoking cessation program is starting up in the new year

Tobacco is the leading preventable cause of disease, disability and premature death in Alberta, causing more than 3,000 deaths each year across the province. Many more Albertans suffer from tobacco-related illnesses. AHS offers various programs and services to help Albertans quit tobacco, including telephone and online support services, one-on-one counselling and group cessation programs such as QuitCore, which launched in 2008. The program is now available in more than 20 communities across the province. Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.

Be safe at home this Christmas

ON THE EDGE OF COMMON SENSE by Baxter Black, DVM www.baxterblack.com

Tío stirred the fire with a stick. “Truth is I felt kinda foolish pokin’ our heads in every stable we came to, ‘course Bethlehem ain’t that big, and, we was all surprised when we walked around the back of that inn and there they were, just like the angel said! They had an ol’ burro tied to a post… I’ll never forget it. The man was layin’ out on a pallet snorin’ away…shoot, he’d walked all the way from Galilee. And the lady, she was propped up against a feed manger holding a baby. “They were country people, didn’t look like they had much. What struck me was it was so…simple, so unfancy. I was expectin’ more of a fiesta. This was the baby that the angels had said was going to be a Savior to all the people in the world, but it didn’t seem right that they’d just invite a bunch of sheepherders? Seems like they’d tell the priest or at least the mayor, have some fanfare…but they didn’t.” That old feeling that had come over him standing ten feet away from those angels all those years ago came back. A shiver ran up his arm. Tío had kept track of the baby. They’d named him Jesus. Tío had watched as Jesus grew up and turned into…a hero. People followed him wherever He went. He performed miracles. He preached. He said He was the Son of God.

“Then he reached up and put his hand in mine, and I filled up inside like I knew everything that mattered in the world,” Jake paused, “and through all that has happened since then, to Him, and to me…He has never let go of my hand.”

Merry Christmas!

Never burn gift wrappings, boxes, cartons, or other types of packing in the fireplace. They burn too rapidly and generate far too much heat. Don’t hang Christmas stockings from the mantel when the fireplace is in use. Always use a screen in front of the fireplace to protect against flying sparks. Never use gasoline or any other flammable liquids to start a fire. Use only seasoned and dried wood. Never leave the fire unattended or let it smoulder. Clean the ashes regularly. Place the ashes in a metal container and store outside away from flammable materials. Don’t use Christmas trees for firewood. Electrical Outlets There is often a tendency to overload wall outlets during the holiday season. This is an unsafe practice and should be avoided even for short durations. Inspect all cords before using. Make sure they are CSA certified. Look for loose connections or frayed or exposed wire. Discard any defective cords. Read the labels and manufacturer’s instructions to ensure proper use. Insert plugs fully into outlets. Poor contact may cause overheating or shock. To avoid possible overheating, do not coil or bunch an extension cord which is in use and do not run it under carpets or rugs.

Christmas is an exciting festive time of the year. It is a time to come together with family and friends. May you have peace, joy and love this holiday season. May the spirit of Christmas and the magic of this wonderful season be with you and your loved ones throughout the holidays and in the New Year. My wife Carol and I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas along with prosperity, good health and happiness in the New Year.

With our thanks for Christmas Best wishes for a Merry your business all year long! and a happy & healthy New Year!

TOWN OF DRUMHELLER WELCOME..... Community Services Department welcomes Eric Neuman to our team as the new Community Services Coordinator/Community Building Initiative leader. We wish continued success to them both as we begin a new year of challenges in Community Services.

???DID YOU KNOW??? Did you know that it is against a town bylaw to  shovel snow onto town streets from your driveway or property?   There already is a lot of snow this winter please be considerate and do not push it onto the streets. It creates obstacles for your neighbors and further issues for vehicles on town streets. If anyone has any questions please call Greg Peters at the bylaw office at 823-1363

AND DID YOU ALSO KNOW????? Members of the bylaw office are concerned about stray or lost cats out in the cold weather. If you have an unfamiliar cat perhaps hanging around your home or area kindly call the bylaw office so members can try and catch it and hopefully return it to its owner.  If it is indeed lost and if an owner cannot be found at least  then the cat will not be out in the cold weather and efforts can be taken to try and find it a new home. Animals need more food in the cold weather and it is doubtful that a stray or lost cat is getting an adequate amount of food. Please call Greg Peters at the bylaw office at 823-1363 if you have questions or would like more information.  Thanks. If anyone would like further information or discuss any of the topics above please call Greg Peters of bylaw at town hall 8231363. Thanks.

Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

TOWN OF DRUMHELLER WELCOME..... Community Services Department welcomes Eric Neuman to our team as the new Community Services Coordinator/Community Building Initiative leader. Eric will be continuing the building initiatives begun by Jeannie Lutz last year. Jeannie has stepped into FCSS Coordinator.

Thanks.

Protect Your Pets

Pet Owners can now purchase their 2014 pet licenses. We urge them to do so as it makes tracking a lost or found pet easier. For further information call Greg at 823 1363. Or email GPeters@dinosaurvalley.com

I stayed very still and then, to my surprise…He looked at it! I figured it would spook the sheep, but it didn’t. “Little Jake stood behind ol’ José, peekin’ around his leg.” me…like He knew what I was thinking.
