JBK Autobody: “The Possibilities are Endless” by Timothy J. Shearlaw JBK Autobody, in Three Hills, Alberta, is no ordinary autobody shop. Their motto could easily be, “The possibilities are endless”. Owned and operated by Bill and Robyn Klemmer, JBK Autobody is located in the Three Hills Industrial Park in the building of JBK Oilfield Contracting Ltd. “John Fenton is our Journeyman Autobody Technician,” said Bill. The shop features a paint booth featuring their new Waterborne paint system. John is fully certified in the use and application of Waterborne paints consisting of all water, no solvents. In fact, Waterborne coatings lower the Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) limits. The solvent in regular automotive coatings thins pigment solids for smooth and even application and then evaporates. Waterborne coatings contain water as the main solvent but also contain other solvents, such as glycol ethers, to improve application. These primers have a

greater resistance to heat and abrasion and provide excel-
lent adhesion. Waterborne primers and primer surfaces
have a VOC content as low as 1.2 lbs./gal. The move to Waterborne improves air quality and our environment. JBK Autobody is proud to be a leader in their exclusive use of low VOC refinish products. By June 18, 2010, manufacturers must stop producing, for sale in Canada or importing, refinish products that do not comply with the VOC limits. The regulation allows for a six-month sell-through period following this, ending in January 2011, to use up all non-compliant products in the distribution channel. JBK Autobody is already there. Other services include their unibody frame straightener that handles all makes and models of cars and trucks. “Bigger pickups are easily handled,” said Bill. JBK Autobody also does windshield chip repair, windshield replacement, lock work, full insurance claims and complimentary, on-site estimates using the most upto-date computer software that is constantly updated for
optimum accuracy. A walk through their shop makes it very clear that this is no ordinary autobody shop. They do custom paint, full restorations, Herculiner box liners (priced from $400 to $650), powder coating and plasma cutting. They even customize golf carts, “The possibilities are endless”. The shop houses a plasma cutter that features a 4’ x 8’ table and is capable of cutting up to 3/4” steel. “We’re open to any ideas,” said Robyn. “Bring in your ideas on paper or disc and we’ll produce it. The powder coat paint brings them to life.” Powder coating is excellent for custom made signs, like the new JBK Automotive sign on the east face of their building. “There are hundreds of colour choices with powder coating,” said Robyn. The plasma cutter allows JBK Autobody to create a vast selection of items. Again, “The possibilities are endless”. You’ll see truck grills, running boards, brush
guards, fifth wheel endgates, customized golf carts and personalized firepits. The fire pits are an ideal Father’s Day (June 20) gift and they can be customized to anyone’s likings. Bill and Robyn have a huge selection of photos documenting all of their one-of-a-kind fire pits. Take a look.
