For this trip, we head to Washington, D.C. to visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture. As the newest member of the Smithsonian Institution, it was established by an Act of Congress in 2003 following decades of efforts to promote and highlight the contributions of African Americans. It opened on September 24, 2016 to great acclaim. It is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. The museum explores what it means to be an American and how American values like resiliency, optimism, and spirituality are reflected in African American history and culture. We will also enjoy an included dinner this evening followed by a guided illumination tour of Washington, D.C.’s monuments and memorials. This trip also features an African American History tour featuring the community of Cedar Hill, home of Fredrick Douglass, the Mary McLeod Bethune statue, National Council of Negro Women, and the MLK Memorial. This is a trip you won’t want to miss, so book your spot now!
