TRAIL OF TEARS

TRAIL OF TEARS & TENNESSEE TRAINS

October 28 - 30 | Single: $844.00 | Double: $679.00 | Trip #15070

Join us on this exciting trip featuring the Trail of Tears and Tennessee Trains. Highlights of this trip include: New Echota, a train ride into the Hiwassee River Gorge, and more!

This trip begins in the mountains of North Georgia, where we will stop in New Echota, one of the most significant Cherokee Indian sites in the nation and was where the tragic Trail of Tears officially began. Then, we head to Chattanooga where we will stay for two nights. The following day, we transfer by motorcoach to the Etowah Station to meet the Tennessee Valley Railroad for a scenic rail adventure. We board the Fall Foliage Express for a train ride through the Hiwassee River Gorge. This rail trip takes you to the top of Hiwassee Loop, where the tracks cross over themselves as they corkscrew up the mountain during this beautiful foliage season. Afterwards, we follow the “Apple Trail” past huge groves and packing houses in north Georgia around Elijay to make a fruit stop. There is plenty of room under our bus for bags of apples and homemade pies. Then, we are on to Dahlonega, the site of America’s first gold rush, and we have time to enjoy the shops along the square before sitting down to a delicious lunch at the Smith House for a family-style meal. Later in the afternoon, we return home after a wonderful fall foliage experience. Don’t miss out on this trip! Reserve your spot today.
