Our trip begins in North Georgia in the quaint town of Alpine Helen where we will stay for two nights. Helen is located along the Chattahoochee River and is a popular destination with its’ many small specialty shops and souvenir nooks. Here, you have a chance to experience a piece of Bavaria without ever leaving the country. We will also get to experience Octoberfest while we are here. This is a typical Bavarian celebration in the Octoberfest Hall with Oompah bands, German dancing, and sing-a-longs. We will spend some leisure time in Helen before we travel the winding and beautiful drive to Hiawassee for the annual Georgia Mountain Fall Festival with a pioneer village, local crafts, exhibits, demonstrations, and entertainment. There is always something going on at the fair, so enjoy the exhibits and crafts, great food, hand-clapping music, and lots more. Special guest performers will be announced when available. Later we travel to Dillard for dinner at the world-famous Dillard House, with delicious fresh foods served family-style in this mountain setting. The foliage should be aglow with color in October as we make our way out of the mountains with a stop at Jaemor Farms for a chance to bring home fresh produce, pies, and jam before returning home.
