“SPRINGS” TIME IN FLORIDA

March 23 - 26 | Single: $1,139.00 | Double: $899.00 | Trip #15067

This nostalgic visit to the Sunshine State highlights one of Florida’s special natural gifts - its’ underground water system of freshwater springs.

Our first stop on this trip of Florida’s crystal clear springs takes us to Silver Springs. After the American Civil War, Silver Springs began to attract tourists from the north via steamboats up the Silver River. Silver Springs’ Glass Bottom Boat tours began their more than century-long reign of world fame! We will board one of these vessels for a cruise into the springs on one of the famed glass bottom boats. Next, we visit Homosassa Springs, which used to be a popular train stop in the early 1900’s where passengers could picnic and take a dip in the spring while train cars were being loaded up with cedar, crabs, fish, and spring water. Here, we board a sightseeing boat from the Visitors Center in the state park that will take us into an area of manatees, wildlife, and walkways to see this beautiful area. Later, we continue to Weeki Wachee. This old Florida site is also home to the deepest freshwater cave system in the country and abundant protected wildlife. Finally, we visit Tarpon Springs where we will board one of the sightseeing excursion boats for a cruise of these waters and a sponge diving demonstration.
