INTRODUCTION
A vivid imagination is a child’s greatest strength, and we believe that a storybook is one of the best medium through which children can cultivate this asset. It is timeless, beautiful, and caters to their imagination in a simple and undemanding way, and we aim to accommodate these into our product and more. A Novel Idea is a service that provides children with the opportunity to participate in their own storybook creation through the application of the “Create your own Adventure” game, and they can take home their own personalised storybook to remember their journey by. Through this, A Novel Idea combines the feel of a paperback book with the immersive experience of digital media and allows children to decide the course of their own story. The experience is guided by their excitement of “what would happen if I did this.” Each adventure is thus entirely novel.

A NOVEL IDEA
The moon and stars symbolise a dreamlike-state where anything and everything is possible, where imagination is free to run wild and create an expansive wonderland. Despite being targeted towards children, we decided that we should avoid the vivid amalgamation of colours so often seen in most children’s products. We wanted a simple and understated beauty, a subtle allure that nevertheless remains true to its childlike innocence. The slight misalignment of the lines and the yellow colour fill is intended to portray this by creating a hand-drawn appearance to the logo. The typeface used in this logo, which looks like the ones used in typewriters, is intended to correlate the service with the idea of books - or, more precisely, storybooks. All of these factors combined make up the image of our service: a storybook building facility for children.

The main colours used in our product are yellow, black and white - simple but bold colours which allow for both understated elegance and childlike straightforwardness. The high contrast between yellow and black (and black and white) serves as a good default scheme for all of our products. For added flexibility, however, we expanded the colour scheme to include three more secondary colours, which are intended to enhance the main colours as well as add more diversity to the admittedly limited range of tones available with just the three primary colours. We added some blue schemes as counters to the yellow, as well as an orange that was similar enough to the yellow in terms of its saturation to even out the balance. We could have decided on a bolder colour scheme, or even one that is less bold than this one (less saturation, perhaps), but we wanted to do neither: too bold and we would destroy the purpose of our brand’s style, too subtle and it would lose the childike innocence it originally had.
