Eyemouth offers all the support services associated with a good-sized working harbour, with a broad and well-trained skills base and excellent facilities including boat builders, marine engineers, marine electronics (SIRM), maintenance yard, grid and slipway facilities, refuelling, storage and chandlery. The harbour area can offer accommodation and training facilities, commercial and office space for rental as well as serviced industrial sites available for immediate development. Close to a number of the North Sea’s offshore wind development sites in the Forth and Tay, it is also ideally positioned for access to the northern European coast, opposite the central North Sea oil and gas fields and is well located for vessels transiting the east coast. An anchorage (depth 15m) – 1.5 NM to landing pontoon is also available for larger vessels and Cruise ships. The harbour is situated at the heart of this bustling coastal town. Local attractions include Gunsgreen House and Eyemouth Museum. The area is popular with walkers, golfers and nature enthusiasts. The serviced pontoons offer safe secure berthing for visiting, annual or seasonal leisure craft just a few minutes’ walk to the town centre. The harbour building has 24/7 access to WCs, showers, laundry facilities and Wi-Fi is available around the harbour basin.

HARBOUR Eyemouth’s unique position just 5 miles from the border with England has long made it a strategically important base and stopping off point for all kinds of boats, businesses and people. Located two miles from the main A1 trunk road via a direct access road avoiding town centre traffic. Eyemouth is less than four hours from London by train (from Berwick upon Tweed) and within easy reach of Edinburgh, Newcastle and three international airports. Featuring the largest and most secure harbour on Scotland’s south east coast with 24-hour lock-free access to a deep-water berthing facility, Eyemouth Harbour offers excellent benefits in terms of cost, convenience and facilities. The Harbour Trust welcomes leisure visitors and commercial operations of all sizes to visit or base their activities in the port. There is a fishing fleet of approximately 26 vessels, ranging from small creel boats to larger trawlers based out of the harbour. This number increases in size during the summer months when visiting vessels from the east coast of England come north. The harbour has a wide range of facilities for the commercial fishing industry including water, fuel, fish merchants, processors and distributors also based locally.

SAFETY GUIDELINES Eyemouth is a busy working harbour and due care and attention should be taken whenever you are around the quayside. Wherever there is landing, loading or routine maintenance going on extra care should be taken. DO NOT run on walkways or pontoons as they can be slippery when wet or icy in frosty weather. DO use the handrails on access bridges, stairs etc Please remember that alcohol can impair your ability to walk along the pontoons and quayside safely! We advise that lifejackets should be worn at ALL times. Lifebuoys and access points to the harbour are provided at strategic points along with various safety notices. The harbour pontoons rise and fall with the tides so due care must be taken. We recommend that children should always be in the company of an adult and everyone must wear suitable lifejackets when on the pontoons and aboard any vessel. Berth holders should ensure that their guests are aware of the safety considerations and we advise that the berth holder accompany guests on the pontoons.

LOCAL HERITAGE & HISTORY The town and harbour of Eyemouth are inextricably linked with the sea. Indeed the harbour is the heart of Eyemouth with the inner harbour reaching into the town and joining the River Eye. Eyemouth Museum in Market Square offers a fascinating insight into the town’s colourful history and heritage including The Great East Coast Fishing Disaster of 1881. Gunsgreen House is perhaps Eyemouth’s most iconic building. The handsome white Georgian building overlooking the harbour was built by John & James Adams for a local shipping merchant. The building has been restored, and as part of the project a Museum of Smuggling is now open to the public March to October. Eyemouth Fort, built in 1547, was one of the first Trace Italienne fortifications built in Britain. The original fort was constructed by English troops following the short war known as the “Rough Wooing”. A temporary
peace followed and the fort was demolished in 1550. However, tensions between Scotland, England and France soon began again and with the appointment of Mary of Guise as regent in Scotland more troops entered Scotland. In 1557, the fort at Eyemouth was built and extended by the French troops. However, the occupation was short lived and by 1560, the fort was again demolished by the signing of the treaty of Cateau-Cambresis. You can learn more about the history of the fort and the extensive provisioning of the fort by the French and Scots during a virtual reality tour in Eyemouth Museum and walk around the fort site on the headland to the North of the town.

Explore our breath-taking coastline, our abundance of flora and fauna, and our internationally important seabird colony at the St Abb’s Head National Nature Reserve celebrating their 40th anniversary with National Trust for Scotland this year! Take a boat trip around the Berwickshire Marine Reserve to spot our
seal, bottlenose dolphins and minke whales and keep your eyes peeled for the rare Northern Brown Angus butterfly too around the Pease Dean Wildlife Reserve.
